Brooke Shields is now my role model. I've stopped liking Tom Cruise after he said the noble profession of psychiatry was "pseudo science", "a fraud" and "should be outlawed". The only thing that I see as a fraud and "pseudo" is his "psuedo-relationship" was Katie Holmes.

BTW, my major and minor in college was/is pre-med and psychiatry, respectively. So that's why I took offense to his comments.

I also have friends and family members whose lives have been changed dramatically for the better since they started taking prozac or paxil or effexor. they've said they feel like a new person. anti-depressants are certainly not for everyone, and they are definitely overprescribed, but they ARE amazingly effective for some of the people in this world. and for Tom Cruise to think he knows more than thousands of doctors, scientists and pharmacologists is just outrageous.

I suffer from mental illness (as do several members of my family) and I can tell you that living a healthy lifestyle is helpful in fighting it, but even so, many of us have no choice but to go on medication. There is nothing wrong with that.

Tom Cruise's implication otherwise only contributes to the stigma of mental illness, which prevents people from seeking help, and hurts fundraising for research. Who the hell does he think he is?

I just read in the latest Entertainment Weekly that Tom believes antidepressants make people "numb" like opium does.That's the type of thinking that kept me from seeking help for depression for several years--years I could have been functioning normally and not contemplating my medicine cabinet trying to figure out what I could mix to end it all.My kids would have been motherless by now if I hadn't finally taken that step to help myself.I think Brooke did a great thing in going public with her experience.She amazed me in her Oprah interview with her bravery and honesty. I wish she'd left Katie out of her replies to Tom, but when we're hurt and furious, we can say some regretable things.

I just saw a repeat of the interview where Tom made all his stupid, uninformed comments and I was so angry afterwards! I was planning on seeing "War of the Worlds" because I loved the original, but after watching this arrogant, self-righteous jerk spout off about something he knows nothing about, I will never spend another penny to see one of his movies - not even on video. I don't know much about Scientology, but I do know that it is protected under the Constitution of the United States and that it has been recognized as a religion by the highest courts in America. I too found Tom's comments to be in bad taste.

My mother told me that for a couple of weeks after giving birth to me she would sometimes randomly cry, and it was due to hormonal/chemical inbalances that go along with being pregnant and then giving birth.

As far as I know Tom has never been pregnant and the only source of his "knowledge" is that psychotic cult of his known as scientology.

I have moved past anger and feeling of "WTF is wrong with him" and I am now concerned for his (and Katie's) mental and physical well-being.

If you look scientology up online you will come across a plethora of websites documenting ex-members horror stories of being held against their will, and one case in which a woman actually died while in the church's custody.
