Barbara Walters is claiming that the reason she passed on the Paris Hilton interview when it was offered to her for the second time (but for free this go-round), she decided that it was too "tawdry" for her taste. Even after all the fuss she's made, relaying Kathy Hilton's phone calls to her audience on "The View," Barbara said that she ultimately decided not to go forward with the interview, despite ABC's interest that she do so.
"They wanted it. For them it was ratings. For me it was respect. I'm fortunately at a point in my life where I can choose what I want, and this was solely my decision. But I must tell you how classy ABC was. They didn't try to force me or say they'd place it on "Nightline," or give it to someone else to do or any of the things they could have done. They respected my decision and walked away."Very cwassy indeed. She also said that she felt is was a "no-win" situation, and that she'd be criticized for either being perceived as being too harsh, or too easy on the heiress. This all feels very damage control to me. I'm not buying it. But whatever. I'm just glad Paris' parents aren't disappointing me and are making the very cheap ploy of getting some quick dollaz by cashing in on a "Paris Out of Jail" party, that is, if it's still moving forward. If so, I'd like to suggest that they have it catered by McDonald's and dress up the servers as Hamburglars. And yes, I can't stop making the Hamburglar joke because...well, it's all I know.

Oh please! Too tawdry? Barbara is a liar. She is buddies with Paris and her family, she is just pissed that they didn't give her first dibs. She has been defending Paris and interviewed her on the phone, and it is suddenly too tawdry? Give me a break! Who does she think believes this crap?
