A lot has happened since my last letter to you guys. I returned from a trip to Texas, immediately packed up my apartment and moved everything into my new place and handed over my keys to the first apartment in which I'd ever lived by myself. Yes, we're talking milestones here, people. However, rather than deal with the process of unpacking and getting used to my new place, I've opted to engage in a very Hollywood activity instead--namely housesitting for a successful producer friend of mine and my boyfriend's. Oh yes, we're talking a well-stocked refrigerator, cable television with all the bells and whistles, as well as a pool. All the comforts of home and then some. So, I didn't even both unpacking my desktop at my new place and decided instead to play house for the next week and a half and delay the inevitable--unpacking.

Granted, there is a dog involved, who needs regular walks, treats and attention, but he's well-behaved and actually nice company to have around, since I'm used to working from home by my lonesome. Although, since he's a giant Australian Ridgeback, it often sounds like an old man shuffling around on the wooden floors with his house-slippers if I forget for a moment where I am.
So, I've been catching up on my cable television watching, enjoying marathons of "Rock of Love," "Flipping Out," and "L.A. Ink." I love these shows so much and "L.A. Ink" amuses me the most at the moment because it's perpetuating the myth that everyone getting a tattoo is doing so to commemorate recovering from a life-threatening illness or accident, the memory of a loved one or with some other such meaningful reason in mind. I guess they're not into casting the, "Hey, I just thought it might be funny to have the Warner Bros. frog permanently etched into my calf," demographic. Also, Kat Von D and her crew are a very striking, attractive bunch, but I have to say that it seems nowadays that everyone on TV is such a genre--even the "social misfits." Even though all of the female tattoo artists are covered in completely different body art, their heavy, well-defined make-up, dyed hair and "rock and roll" outfits have me confusing them for one another as often as I do with the girls in "The Hills." In any case, I'm just waiting for the day when a customer walks into the tattoo parlor to be greeted by Kat in a tall, black, furry British soldier hat, a leopard-print bikini top, 70s shorts and roller skates.
But, back to the housesitting. About two years ago, I found out that I had slightly high cholesterol and figured that since my dad had that same problem and I'm a vegetarian who was in the midst of training for the marathon, it was probably genetic. With that in mind, I've been good about substituting my butter for olive oil, avoiding fatty stuff in general and my last blood test came out looking good, but dear readers, this refrigerator is RIDICULOUS. It's not so much that it's junk food, but more like my specific kind of vices. Real butter, expensive stinky cheese, rich chocolate truffles and whatnot. I'm the kind of person who will eat less of something awesome than try the "diet" version. Needless to say, I'm acting like this week totally doesn't count, cholesterol-wise. Besides, how do you find someone to eat cheese with, if you can't eat some cheese now and then?
As much as I know I'm only delaying the inevitable by putting off the task of unpacking my boxes in my new apartment, I think that after the busy month I've had, I could use some time pretending to be someone else for just a little while longer. Until then, I remain...
Faithfully yours,
Lisa T.

Hi Lisa,
Thanks for sharing your latest adventure. I live in Victoria BC and did a house swap last summer. It was the best vacation ever. I went through an agency and they found the perfect match. We swapped houses, cars, and friends. She got the Pacific Ocean and I ended up with the Atlantic. I would do it again and I would also sign up for housesitting. Keep us posted!
