Leonardo DiCaprio owns an island. That's hot! I want an island! You could build whatever the hell you want on it! And declare yourself god ruler! And keep sexy manservants! No one can tell you that you can't drink 40s on the beach. Or wear your new thong! Ok, I wouldn't terrify society with that last move but it would be nice to be able to get shittoed near the water without some fascist lifeguard on an ATV ruining your day and taking your hooch. Anyway, Leo owns his own island off of the coast of Belize and he's going to partner with the Four Seasons hotel chain to build a "green hotel" on it.

Beyond an expected start date of 2008, very little additional details have been leaked. We can only assume that these hotels will have a neutral impact on the planet -- sourcing energy either from the surrounding ocean, sun, wind, or other methods.
The island is called Blackadore Island and word is, staying at this resort won't be cheap. Leo also had some stank to project about our president. Who can blame him? Keep reading for what he had to say about Dubya's environmental record.

More photos of Leonardo DiCaprio hanging out with his friends at the Hotel Amphitrite in Skhirat, Morocco, and having some fun at the beach, after the jump.

"I think if you asked any environmentalist about George Bush's policies on the environment he gets quite close to a 'D' or an 'F'," DiCaprio told reporters at a news conference in Los Angeles to promote his new documentary, The 11th Hour.
I like how Leo takes time from porking supermodels to have a cause and try to improve society. But let's get back to that own your own island thingy. That is so boss. You could build an islandwide tree house without any pesky zoning laws. Or train sharks to tow you around. Ok, I think I'm overestimating what you can do with island ownership but it gives my imagination wings!

Sorry, I know there are people who won't agree with me on this but . . .

When I see people like Leo walking down the street sucking on a ciggie and blowing smoke into the air and into other people's faces and then they rave about how everybody is ruining the environment, well, I don't have a very good reaction to what he's saying.

I know the environment is a mess and we're all responsible in some ways, but can't he stop smoking? I mean, that would do a lot to help, wouldn't it?

October 15, 2007 1:06 PM

yep, essie, you're right. there are ppl who won't agree with you on this issue. i'm one of them.

but no need to be sorry. your opinions are what they are. you're entitled to 'free thought' in this country - although no guarantees about how long that will last. but for now, no apologies necessary.

Essie, I see what you mean.

However, I think it's good for people to do whatever they can. If someone is having a hard time quitting smoking, that doesn't mean they should stop doing whatever else they can.

Cigarette smoking is banished in most public places where I live and in many other states too. So, you don't really need to preach about that. It's being taken care of.

What's more important to worry about is the fact that our president is going against the UN and scientists everywhere over global warming. It's the big companies who need to lower carbon emissions. In my opinion that is a much bigger problem than Leonardo DiCaprio smoking a cigarette.

Leo is a hypocrit. Why build anything - especially a multi multi million dollar resort on a beautiful island? "Green", I doubt it. It's an island. What are they going to do with the garbage and sewage they generate? They'll pipe it out to sea a couple of miles underwater & discharge it there. I could bet that the materials needed to build won't be available on the island. Every board, bag of cement, nail, toilet, faucet, refrigerator, door, kitchen sink, will be either flown in or barged in. Think of the fuel that will consume. They're also going to have to bring in staff because I'm certain they won't have all the required talent available on the island. More garbage, sewage & housing required. His "green" hotel is nothing but a bullshit way for him to say "I'm building a big ass, expensive resort and I'm going to charge rich people lots & lots of money to stay in it". Not only that, all these people have to get to the island some way. Are they coming in on man powered katamarans? I doubt that too. More like they'll have to enlarge the local or build another airport. He's a transparent jack ass calling a money making scheme "green" and expecting everyone to just believe it because he's buddies with Al Gore and his $2000 a month home heating bill. And yes Essie. If Leo is going to lecture us on the ecology he needs to stop smoking, or stop lecturing. That and globe trotting around the world to meet up with fashion models and attend designer shows. Does Leo support any charities? I don't know, I'm asking. I get really, really, really irritated with these unrealistic Hollywood morons that think they're entitled, and that the rest of us should believe every word they say just because they're celebrities.

Exactly. People read this and often quickly think "That Leo, he's so smart . . . and good to the earth. Damn you republicans!" But what they don't think about is . . . he's clearing how much CO2 eating fauna for this facility? I'm sure he'll want running water and electricity. What will be needed to be dug up for that to happen? How many trees cut down? The larger question . . . why do it at all? A resort is better than just leaving the natural state of the island?

Zelda...wow. Thank you! That's I can say. Seriously, you've pretty much summed up everything I was thinking...

October 15, 2007 2:33 PM

Your just jealous you guys...jealous is not cool guys not cool.....

October 15, 2007 3:13 PM

Heidi, you are an idiot!

- "What's more important to worry about is the fact that our president is going against the UN and scientists everywhere over global warming"-

Since when did we need to get our marching orders from the UN? Enlightened environmentalists all over the planet realize the "Global Warming" scam is just another leftist plot to strip the industrialized nations of their wealth and redistribute it to POS 3rd world countries that give oral sex to cows and die their hair orange with cow piss. If you took man completely out of the equation, the earth's temperature would still be a centigrade degree warmer than it was 100 years ago. The earth heats up, the earth cools down, buy some sunscreen.

All you Bush-haters out there who somehow blame him for everything need to understand that your blessed Clinton did not heed the UN any better than Bush did with respect to fighting "Global Warming" and it's a phenomenon that's been in process for well over a century.

Ride Lo

LoRider - Love Ya Babe!!!

Zelda, you are so right. There is NO such thing as a "neutral impact" hotel. What a joke. This guy is a hypocrite.

October 15, 2007 3:50 PM

Green like a dollar bill.

ZeldaF/LoRider - I don't even have to say anything -- you already said it! I 100% agree!!!

Oh plueeeze... Yeah, the place will be "green".. but the method to build it? Nope. Bulldozers, cranes, all that stuff leads to more damage- and if someone tells you they don't, they're a moron. The only way to be "green" about it is to not destroy the land. We have enough hotels.

October 15, 2007 5:28 PM

Regnig - exactly. The Caribbean is being destroyed with resorts. The worst of it is that so many never go further than ground breaking, then they are abandoned due to financial problems, but not before the land has been scrapped, depriving wildlife of its natural habitat, and a big ugly cleared site is left.
I've been living down here for the last 2 years and have visited many of the islands (not Belize or its islands though) and seen this numerous times, particularly in the Eastern Caribbean. Whatever Leo di Caprio is going to build on that island, its going to be a monstrosity. I bet he puts in a frigging marina, sets up day tours, jet kis, the whole lot.

October 15, 2007 5:35 PM

Oh Leo! You warm the cockles of my heart.

October 16, 2007 7:18 AM

Who really cares what a high school drop out like this jerk says about anything. Anybody done any looking at how green the Presidents ranch is? starting with rainwater collection, solar panels, and geothermal heat. It uses next to nothing in power to operate far cry from jack-off al gore or this inbred.

Well maybe he will cut down some waste and make it more eficient, and then maybe the world will catch on to it and slowly things will change. Someones got to be an innovator, and people will always stay in hotels! :) it could be more like camp' but I think leos crowd wouldn't hang too long camping. Lol The customers he will pull in, will need normal living circumstances! I can't wait to see it though. Lets see how it runs! :) atleast some materials will be healthier 4 the world?
