Spike Lee is married to a very successful Black lawyer who was raised with a lot of money. He too is from an educated successful family. So he is not criticizing Condol Rice for being successful. he is criticizing her for not having enough of a connection to her roots by supporting insensitive policies that Bush tells her to support.

Rice deserves the criticism--she doesn't have to represent black people, but she doesn't do squat for the poor in this country either, black or not. It has nothing to do with education level or her career--there are wealthier, higher educated people who do give time and money wise to helping others. A few rare people serve in goverment to improve things for others, a lot more serve to improve their own pocketbooks and credentials.

ms rice and I are from the same state and grew up in the same era, and when she was talking about her skating an piano lesson around the time of the b'ham bombings, let me tell you there was no where in jim-crow alabama that would let a black person skate in a public skating rank. so I don't know what planet she was living on growing up in the 50's & 60'S where black people were allowed to go to a public place like a skating rank and pratice, more than likey the white's in alabama would have closed it down before allowing a black person to taint there ice rank,like in the town where I grew they fill the public swimming pool with concret to keep blacks from swimming there, so I would say she is out of touch with her own people and she could care less, democrat or republican she don't give a shit about Black people.
