Have a Socialite’s Night: To Do This Weekend!

Have A Socialite Night-1

New York:

Friday: After winning the Special Jury Prize and taking Sundance by storm, Brick opens in limited release this afternoon. You’ll certainly recognize Joseph Gordon-Levitt from 10 Things I Hate About You and Emilie de Ravin from Lost, but you’ll love how the film grabs you even more. [Link]

Saturday: The Big Apple Convention at the Penn Plaza Pavilion. The weekend-long event boasts a large list of “celebrity” appearances, including Jerri Matheny of Survivor fame and a pre-Jimmy Fallon Major Healey. Former Baywatch beauty Brande Roderick and other “models” will also be on hand to help bring new meaning to the phrase “comic strip”. Except scores of comic book fans in their element, too. [Link]

Sunday: Julia Robert’s theatre debut Three Days of Rain is only in previews, but tickets are already selling fast. If you can’t catch this afternoon’s performance, try and snag some tickets for the remainder of the show’s run. I’m sure it won’t be long before Paul Rudd drops a plastic tomato again. [Link]

Chicago:

Friday: One man’s trash becomes another man’s treasure when The Found Footage Film Festival arrives in Chicago this week. Forget that the creators came across most of these films in dumpsters and garage sales -- they’ll still put Bob Saget to shame. [Link]

Saturday: Burlesque dancer Dita Von Teese (a.k.a. the current Mrs. Marilyn Manson) will be signing copies of her book, Burlesque and the Art of the Teese at the Virgin Megastore. (The “Virgin” part is especially ironic.) April Fools? [Link]

Sunday: Catch a matinee of Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright David Mamets’s A Life in The Theatre at the Goodwin Theatre. And just in case you forget to set your watch back an hour, there’s a 7:30PM performance, too. [Link]

Los Angeles:

Friday: The Strokes perform at The Gibson Amphitheatre.
It’s no surprise that most of their tour is already sold out, so hopefully everyone interested bought their tickets in the fall. If not, make a trip out to Wisconsin. Evidently they’re not sold out there. [Link]

Saturday: The multi-talented Viggo Mortensen (and two men who are not Viggo Mortensen) will read selections from their poetry at Venice Beach’s Beyond Baroque. Tickets are first-come, first-serve so arrive early. [Link]

Sunday: Just in case five days a week weren’t enough, Jay Leno begins his month-long live comedy act in Hermosa Beach this week. [Link]
