While David Beckham isn't much of a reader himself, he sure does seem to crank out his own books. But alas, he's not writing them by himself. The man has trouble enough helping his kids with his homework, you didn't think that he'd be the one putting pen to paper. His forthcoming book Making It Real, will be written by a ghostwriter, just as his two previous autobiographies were.
David Beckham signed a £1million deal to bring out his third book in five years at the still relatively tender age of 31. The England captain and Real Madrid star, whose 2004 book My Side was the biggest selling autobiography of the year, has signed a new deal for Making It Real. But although the book, which will be published in September, will look at what has happened to the star since 2004's My Side (except, perhaps, the allegations of marital misbehaviour), it will focus more on the techniques that have helped make him into one of England's top footballers.
Aimed at a younger audience, Making It Real will have a tie-in with Beckham's two football academies, in London and Los Angeles.
According the publishers HarperCollins, as well as featuring "state-of-the art soccer skills and training tips" it will give, "unique insights into Beckham's world as a footballer and one of the most celebrated faces on the planet".
There will also be plenty of pictures of Beckham, both on and off the field with "personal insights into how his own experiences have shaped his career".
Beckham said of the deal: "I am pleased that what I'm trying to achieve at my Academies will reach a wider audience through this book. I hope that everyone who reads it will not only learn new skills but have fun with their football."
