Britney (yet again) is breaking the law with Sean Preston's car seat installed facing forward. The law is for babies to stay rear-racing until their 1 year old! Thanks to reader Coleen for pointing this out. We were just going to comment on the curlers in her hair. Who's the guy? Does little Sean Preston have a male nanny?
More photos of Britney (plus Sean Federline), after the jump.

Holy shit! He's WAY too small for that car seat. Poor baby. :(

that poor baby. kid is going to be dead or brain damaged by the time he's 3.
KSI, I love ya!
Steven says:
That doesn't look like Britney driving the car. And is that a law everywhere? I don;t recall that being a law where I live. The seat is not too big he just needs a little pillow or something.
laura says:
that guy is probably her brother. The lesser known spears (and is probably thankful due to that fact!)
britt says:
i dont actually believe that is britney and sean in the car
Alia
even if it is NOT a law in Cali, where is the little thing that goes around his head to keep him sitting up straight, poor baby looks dead in that pic
Ldysunfyre says:
Steven,
Clearly you are not knowledgeable about carseats. He should not be lurched over like that and a pillow won't help. He obviously needs more support before he can be in an upright seat like that. Those seats are for 25 lbs. or more. At 7 months, I sincerely doubt he is already 25 lbs.
Keli says:
Yeah there's no law like that where I live...
Steven says:
That's why i said he just needs a little pillow or something to prop him up alot time when kids fall asleep in car seats that happens. it's really no as bad as it looks.
PS Brother or nanny he is cute. LOL
doofus says:
to steven...
brit or not, whoever is taking care of that baby needs some more instruction.
I don't think it's a law, but the seat isn't guaranteed to "work properly", that is, it won't protect your baby in a crash if you don't USE it properly. and facing the seat toward the back of the car is a must to use the seat properly.

Rob--
Being first doesn't make you special. it only makes you late for fifth period remedial math class.
No one who posts on this sight gives a flying one about "first" posting.
Small Fry says:
I'm from Cali and I'm a mom. The child needs to be rear facing until he is one year or 20 lbs whichever comes later. If it is her (which I belive it is) she needs to have that kid taken away!!! I'm sure if she thinks it's okay to drive with a kid on yer lap, put an infant in a forward-facing seat and not strap him into a highchair that she thinks it's okay to have a few beers and cigarettes while preggers as well. For the love of all that is trashy....please please please take this baby away from her and sterilize her ass.
And Rob, you are a douchebag. Nobody gives a shit if you are first. I'm sure you're first when it comes to your bedroom skills too....first to finish.
brenda says:
MOST of those car seats seat a baby 5-40/60 lbs. They are suppose to be rear facing until the baby reaches 20 lbs (most of them, some may say 25lbs.) So, if the baby is 20lbs. it is likely not illegal. The pillow people are referring to is not like a bedroom pillow! It's a tube shaped pillow that wraps around the baby's head - and yes they do help keep the head propped up.

The carseat thing is appalling but she's driving with an infant in a CONVERTIBLE. Is she nuts??? Exposing the kid to the sun, wind, something popping up from the road (pebbles, glass)....and what if she had to make a getaway from paparazzi and had a Lindsay-Lohan vehicular incident?
I hope her doctor ties her tubes after the next one.
The fashion police might want to note the curlers. Just needs a ratty housecoat and a sofa in the front yard and the trailer park image is complete.
christine says:
she's such an asshole. i'm so tired of seeing her and her white trash husband EVERYWHERE
las says:
Steven, a pillow will not stabilize a child's head if he is so limp he flops sideways and forward.
And whether it's a law -- and I think it is -- an eight-month-old's neck, head and skeleton are NOT able to withstand the whiplash effect. THAT is why children under 20 pounds AND one year are supposed to be kept facing the back. You know how when a car stops suddenly, everything slides toward the front? If a baby is propelled into the soft foam of a carseat, then they are cushioned from the impact.
Facing forwards? Poor SPF would get yet another nasty injury to his poor abused little skull. Just the sort of idiocy I'd expect from Twitney.
Booboo says:
You need an editor.
It's "until they're 1" or "until they are 1"

Maryanne, I was shocked too. But then, she totes the poor kid around practically naked, without a little sun hat to keep him from overheating. Probably trying to get him a tan. He's like, SO pale, y'all. And Papa Kevin says his gangsta son better not be a pale youngin!
I also thought what you thought when I saw those rollers. Don't forget dangerous rusted machinery rotting behind the trailer, so her fifty-plus grimy kids can injure themselves on them...
Oops I did it again says:
That does not look like Britney to me. Where is the bump? Plus that person is slouching (maybe to make her self look shorter) and that baby looks way smaller.
doesn't matter says:
In the MD/VA/D.C. area, babies are supposed to be rear facing until they are one year old or over 20 lbs. Most people will keep their baby rear facing EVEN if they are over 20 lbs.
I'm not sure if it's really her or not, but where are her handlers? Any idiot's pediatrician will inform them the "carseat law." I mean, she's rich, right? Where are the people who is supposed to educate her?
nevermind says:
I am utterly disgusted. She should know something is wrong, if she were a caring mother. I'm a mother and I look in the backseat practically at every stoplight and sign and my son is 2 now. She should have noticed her son all slumped over and the red flag should be flying! He clearly cannot hold himself up. And the sun is beating down on him. Babies are easily sun burned and overheat easily. He could even be choking and she would be oblivious! That poor baby! I could just slap her!
Giddy says:
Oh dear.
Car seat laws are mostly based on weight here in CA.
And if you've EVER had a baby, you KNOW they slump over like that.
Hopefully this baby's got SPF 50 on, though.
Star says:
why doen't everyone just get over it Britney is trailer park what do you expect leave her alone.

CSlash says:
You morons. What position the seat is supposed to face is entirely based on weight not age. One year is the average, but is not specified by law. That kid is a chubster I doubt he's of the weight to be in a rear facig child seat.

Dusty says:
Yes, they slump their little heads over when they fall asleep in their seats, however, their entire upper body, shoulders, etc, do not slump over like that. (The way he is flopped way over is like someone who just has a lap belt on.) The straps hold them up against the seat and it is just their head that flopd when the straps are tight/fitted enough! I don't think it looks like her but more like a decoy. I am sure it probably is, though. Having said all that, he is a little chunky and i do have a friend who has a 7 month old weighing just under 20 lbs... He might meet the weight requirement.(?)
Just my thoughts...
Dusty says:
And just an added note, I am a mother of two children under school age.
Cheesy says:
It's Brit, in curlers--like every other housewife.
And YES, in California, we do have a law that says 1 year or 20 pounds, rear-facing seats; after that, forward facing is fine.
BUT regardless of which direction this kid is facing, he (a) needs a hat to protect him from the sun or (b) needs some sunscreen, (c) he should NOT be in an open convertible, because of the extreme dangers of roll-over accidents, (d) his five-point harness is WAAAAAAY too loose if he's able to flop over like that, so far to his side, and finally and most importantly, (e) he needs a new mother.
Oh, and the dude is the new nanny, or Manny, for male nanny.
LM says:
Good points, Cheesy. As a mom of 3, I went to a carseat expert who said that you should have a "convertible" carseat like she has face toward the rear as long as possible (2+ years) given the physics of a crash. And, the straps should be very tight (you need to pull them tight over the legs while you tighten the mechanism to assure no slack). Clearly, she does not have him adequately secured. In a crash, the force could send him upward, allowing the the straps to slip over his shoulders and letting him fly.
And, like some of you moms, just looking at the sun exposure she is subjecting him too is giving me skin crawl.
Bla says:
That is definitely Britney.
And it is a shame that she produces another child instead of focusing on the one she already has.
Doesn't matter what the law is... Driving around in a convertible with a infant?? That is insane and unacceptable! She has no control over what's going on back there. Anything could occur. Something could even fall down on his head.. And the sun! She is totally unintelligent!
Cindi says:
OH Please people. Its amazing on how many "PERFECT" mothers are out there. Baby's do slump over in there car seats. Little does anyone know she did stop and straighten him up and put his hat back on. The pop would not want you to see that.
bla says:
Cindi!
No, what she did is completely unacceptable!
Trailer Fabulous says:
Hey, at least she's a really good singer!
las says:
Cindi, you don't get it, do you?
He shouldn't have been in that position in the first place. You're supposed to fix the seatbelt BEFORE you start driving, not when you notice paparazzi up on a hill taking your picture.
Cheesy says:
Great, if she did stop and fix his seat. But how long did it take?
90 seconds driving around in a car seat is too long, ESPECIALLY when you add the convertible sitch to the equation.
No one is a perfect parent. But I bet none of us have driven around with our kids on our laps, not well-secured in their seats and facing the wrong direction.
I just hope she had the common sense the good Lord gave a radish to put sunscreen on him. Or, at least I hope she hired a Manny with common sense enough to put sunscreen on the poor child.
sickofwhitetrash says:
Read the instructions to any car seat on the market, people.
A child MUST be rear facing until 20 LBS IN WEIGHT AND ONE YEAR OF AGE. That means the kid has to WEIGH 20 POUNDS AND BE AT LEAST ONE YEAR OLD. Which means if the kid is LESS THAN 20 LBS but over one year old, he should be rear facing. Which in turn means if he is MORE THAN 20 LBS but LESS THAN ONE YEAR OLD, he should still be rear facing.
> 20 lbs 20 lbs = rear facing
The kid is around 8 months has his mothers has absolutely not fucking business having him face forward. What a tool Britney is. Where is DCFS when they're really needed?
We need to SAVE SEAN PRESTON! Where can I get the t-shirt?
Britney fans are the dumbest, most tone deaf fuckin people in the world.
anonymous says:
cslash, you apparently are the only moron here, well along w/a couple of other people who see nothing wrong with this picture. sickofwhitetrash basically summed up what i had to say. it is based on age as well as weight so get your facts straight before you go spewing your nonsense.
cindi, no one claimed to be perfect. they just have common sense. this woman has no common sense and doesn't deserve this child or the one she's carrying.

I have an 11 month old baby and she weighs 25 LBS and she is long enough to sit facing forward!! She has been sitting that way for 2 months!! I had to buy a $300 carseat but the doctor said because of her height and weight it is safer for her to ride facing forward!! Everyone don't know her situation so everyone needs to just leave her alone!! There are parents out there beating their kids and starving them to death and they get to keep their kids!! Why consitrate on them!!!
jane doe says:
thats a great idea...
save sean preston logo t-shirts!!!

K-Fedcan'trap says:
Looks like Britney found a nice guy to replace K-Fed. K-Fed is a goldigger and he'd be working at McDonald's if it wasn't for her.
las says:
Kristy, what does YOUR kid have to do with it? Her weight, height and age have NOTHING to do with poor SPF. No sane doctor would say that he was large enough or old enough to be facing the front.
Now that I look closer at the pic, is he even wearing a seatbelt? There's no sign of one across his body, and he's not sitting like a child properly restrained across the stomach and chest. In fact, it looks like it's scrolled up in the corner of the seat!
And before anyone leaps to Britney's defense: This woman kept her kid unrestrained in her lap. Would leaving off a seatbelt on a car seat be so surprising?
Mouse says:
This is pathetic.
You'd think Short Bus Woman would've learned from the baby-in-lap incident and the skull fracture. Apparently, this is not the case.
Does she even give a shit about the baby's welfare? Someone should step in and take him away from her.
Tiffany says:
This girl has no idea what she is doing when it comes to parenting. As a mother of 2 young children, one being the same age as little Sean Preston, this disgusts me! The most important thing you can do as a parent is protect your children to the very best of your ability and obviously she hasn`t learned this. When my daughter is in her carseat(REAR FACING!!)even if she does fall asleep the strap holding her in is snug enough so that her tiny body doesn`t slump over as is shown in the picture of Sean Preston. At most her head drops forward a bit and as soon as i notice that she may be uncomfortable we(my husband and I) safely stop the vehicle and prop her head against the side of the carseat or her head hugger pillow(the pillow others have referred to) In an accident he could very easily just slip through the belt(if he is even wearing one) and be ejected from the vehicle. Some people should not be allowed to produce offspring, and Brit and K-Fed obviously are high on that list! I just pray that they both either grow up real fast or the authorities decide quickly to remove him and any other offspring from an obviously unsafe enviroment.
Stacey says:
The safety requirements on whether a toddler should be in a rear-facing seat is not solely dependent on the child's weight. The major reason babies need to the rear-facing untill AT LEAST one year of age is because the immature skeletal system cannot safely withstand the high velocity forward motion when a collision occurs.
The spinal column is most especially vulnerable in babies under age 1 year because their heads are so disproportionately heavy relative to their body wieght. When forward facing, even if properly secured in a child safety seat, the sudden high force of a too young baby head's forward movement can cause a catastrophic spinal cord separation injury. This is why babies MUST remain rear-facing until at least age 1 year. The rear-facing car seat elliminates this forward motion of the baby's body. It's not a matter of the laws of man, it's about the laws of physics...
Sadly, there is a lot of misinformation and misassumptions about how a car seat is most safely used. Sometimes parents see that the seat can be used either rear or forward facing and assume that either way is safe for any child. Even pediatricians aren't always properly informed. When in doubt, look up a certified Child Passenger Safety Technician in your area and have them answer your questions and help you determine what is the safest way to transport your baby. Here's a database with contact info to find your local CPS Tech - http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/people/injury/childps/Contacts/index.cfm
And yes, clearly Ms. Spears' 7 month old is way too young and phyically immature to be riding forward facing. That particular seat he's in looks to be a Britax Marathon or Boulevard, which can be used rear-facing up to 35 pounds (forward facing from 22-65 pounds). I'm willing to be it was too difficult to properly fit the seat rear-facing in that Mini's small back seat and she just had it turned around assuming it was just as safe... Well, it's not!
Wonder how long it will be before DFCS shows up at the Spears-Federline home, yet again....

ali says:
If all of you that are defending her are correct, then why was this on the news this morning? Obviously what she is doing is wrong, also being in a convertible without the baby covered at all? I understand that she's a new mother and that there are parents out there beating, starving, caging their children but come on...she has a mother too who has raised a few children. Britney's mom should also be giving her advice about these things especially because she is bound to be scrutinized by everyone.

urbancowgrl says:
Do you remember in the '70's when your mother would lay your little brother on the front seat, passengers side. I know there are laws now, but I don't think Britney is a bad mother. Lots of people face the seat so that they can see the baby.
Mommyofone says:
Stacey, thank you for your correct information. Just because some of you are moms does not automatically make you right. Many of you would do well to look up your states child safety seat laws. Several links have already been provided.
In California, where I live, it is based on weight AND age. A child must be over 20 pounds AND one year old to ride foward facing. As someone else mentioned, this is due to the infants immature skeletal developement. If you were to crash with your 7-8 month old in a forward facing seat, that baby would likely suffer spinal cord injuries from whiplash depending on the severity of the crash. READ YOUR CARSEAT MANUALS PEOPLE!!!! It is soooo important that carseats remain rear facing until a baby is 20 pounds AND 1 year old!!!
My 8 month old used to slump over like that. This was because the angle of his seat was incorrect. You can purchase a car seat leveler or use a pool noodle to fix this.
I don't know the law on convertibles but I know I would never ride in one with my infant son.
mommy1227 says:
I have 2 small children and both my kids were 20 pounds before 1. However I did keep their seats rear facing until 1. My youngest fell asleep all the time in the car so I kept her seat rear facing until she was 16 months. Only because I wanted her to be comfortable when she slept. But the straps on little Seans seat are way to loose. Only his head should slump. As a mom she should not want him to sleep folded in half like that.It also is hard for a baby to breath when in that position
ali says:
Urbancowgirl-That is stupid, it's like saying do you remember when everyone thought that cigarettes didn't kill you. You are talking about more than 30 years ago.
tater says:
Um.... in a convertable, facing the wrong way, no hat on, probably no sunblock on. This kid should be aprehended. How many strikes will she get? She should take some parenting classes and make her dumbass husband attend. Seems the both of them could care less about this kid.
las says:
urbancowgirl, do you remember in the 1700s when doctors bled for every single disease? Don't blame your MD when he sucks your blood out with a hose! It's not dangerous, because some people lived through bleeding.
That's about how rational the thirty-years-ago approach is. This isn't the seventies, and everything about it has changed.
Serendipity says:
It doesn't even looked like he's strapped to the car seat at all.. plus he's in full sunlight and unprotected from sunburn.
I hope they take her children away, she is clearly unfit to be a mother. And apparently she has announced she is pregnant again! If she can't look after one child properly, imagine what it will be like with two children...
AnotherMom says:
Oh where to start???
First it is 20 pounds AND 1 year of age. In almost all states. Go read your stats. If it isn't a law in your state it is still the recommended guideline by the carseat manufacturer. It is also the recommendation of the AAP (American Association of Pediatrics) for 20 pounds AND 1 year of age.
CHeck out the footage of the crash tests.
http://www.cpsafety.com/articles/StayRearFacing.aspx
And according to the database, that carseat (believed to be a Britax) IS compatible with rear-facing in that model car.
http://www.carseatdata.org/
Second the straps are waaaaaay too loose. A child should never be slumped that far over. Yes the head will slump but not the body. You should only be able to get a finger between the child and the strap, not your whole hand. There is a reason that the straps are ADJUSTABLE. You need to retighten then each time the child is put into the seat. Different layers of clothing will change the fit of the seatbelt straps.
And no one should be using those "little pillows" that you can buy for carseats. Only something that is sold WITH the carseat is compatible with it. Anything else hasn't been properly tested with that carseats specifications.
Any Doctor that says a child is safer forward facing under the age of one should have his license revolked. That is just plain wrong and dangerous. I don't care if a child is 30 pounds if they are under the age of ONE their body isn't strong enough to handle the force of a crash. Plain and simple.
Third the whole exposure issue. I seriously doubt that child has sunscreen on since it doesn't appear that he even has the seatbelt straps from his carseat on. Why would someone needlessly risk the safety of a child in an open convertible? Mindblowing.
Sherry says:
Ok, people. Do any of you even have children?? I have four kids. In the state of Illinois, it is RECOMMENDED that infants stay in rear facing car seat until the age of ONE. However, it is a LAW that they remain rear facing car seat until they are at LEAST 20 lbs. So, it is quite possible that Little Sean Preston is over 20lbs.
As far as him being to small for that car seat. NO, he is not! I believe she has a britax, the same one I use...and is from 5lbs up. He has just fallen asleep and his head has dropped. If my children were going to get "brain damage" every time that happened. It would of happened long ago! It happens, and if your a parent, you know EXACTLY what I am talking about!
I really wish that everyone would stop being so critical of her. I honestly believe I am a good mother, however, if I had cameras following me, I am POSITIVE I'd do things that others would not approve or. And I'd probably watch back later and wonder what the hell I was thinking, myself! Again, if your a parent, good or bad. You know what I am talking about. No mom/dad is perfect! I don't care how great ya think you are!
As far as the guy holding little Sean....Sheesh, is that just me or does that look like Billy Currington????? HE HE

I love how some of you BS worhippers go the auto-defend route. Denial that it's even her in the pics...then the excuses come pouring out when you find out it WAS Britney. Get help for yourselves. If you worship someone THIS much, you have a definite problem.
Jan Ann 1206 says:
No one here is up and up on the laws. There is no law in California that says infants have to face rear until they are 1. I have 2 kids under 2 and that car seat is for a 5-40lb child. The thing here is, they urge you to rear face your child until they are at least 20lbs. The reason she is in the news is because she is a celebrity. If you or I would have done this, no one would have thought twice or gave a darn. No offense to the APA but I am not going to leave my children rear facing until they are 1, as soon as they are old enough, they face forward where I can watch them and they can see me. Kids tend to get upset when their mother leaves the room at about 6 months old. She does need one of those head reat devices to keep his little head from falling down like that - poor kid.
urbancowgrl says:
Yes, folks--- I know that we were ignorant about safety 30 years ago. Not saying it was a good idea. It was horrifying looking back. What I meant was that Britney did have her child in a car seat-- it's not like he was just hanging in the back seat! He was in a car seat and yes it should have been facing towards the back, but he was buckled and I'm sure you've had to adjust you kids head once in a while.
Jan Ann 1206 says:
You know what is sick about this whole thing? I cant find one single state in which there is a LAW that says infants HAVE TO face the rear until they are 20 lbs. http://www.inventiveparent.com/state-laws.htm
The AAP only RECOMMENDS it. The laws just state that kids have to be in a safety device and some states dont even state that. I cant believe this, WOW.
mommyofone says:
Jan Ann 1206, its tragic that you feel the need to endanger your child's life simply for your ownconvienience while driving. I have an 8 month old who still rides rear facing because I would never get over it if he were injured or killed in a collision, especially if his injuries could've been prevented by installing his carseat correctly. They don't make up these laws to make your life more difficult, they do it to save lives. Do you know anything about whiplash? Why don't you read up on it. I realize no one ever thinks they will get into an accident, but that's why they call them accidents, because no one goes out driving intending to collide with something else.
Since you are ignorant of California law, I pulled this right off the California Highway Patrols official website. Here is the link.
http://www.chp.ca.gov/pdf/4_steps_for_kids.pdf
I hope for your children's sake you take the time to read it and educate yourself. Our kids look to us for protection. Do what's best for them. Just so you know they make mirrors that can be easily attached to your backseat so you can view your children while they ride in their correctly installed rear facing seats before they turn one.
ukmum says:
I'm not defending anyone and those who dont know better should be educated and not Criticized.
I agree that the child should be properly strapped in and have a hat on, and the risks of being in a convertible are dangerous.
But, If forward facing car seats are not meant to be used for young infants, then why do they make them from 5-8 lbs upwards? I dont think i've ever seen a 8lb 1 yr old, has anyone else? Surely, if they were so "illegal" and not meant to be used that way, they would not make them to fit so small.
Also, I must be the only one who doesnt have eye sight good enough to see sun cream at such distance.
On a last note I would like to praise all the mothers out there who think they are perfect, it must feel great to be faultless, the next time you accidently make a mistake, just think what it would be like if someone was watching and taking a picture over your shoulder! At least you know it will never happen to you, so that makes you safe!
mommyofone says:
I would also like to add that I feel Britney made a mistake, like we all do. I think it is very cruel and presumptious to say that her child should be taken away from her. We don't know her. For the record I can't stand the likes of her, Jessica Simpson, Paris Hilton, and all the other no talent morons that pollute our culture, but that doesn't mean I feel the state should take away her child. How often have all of you, as parents, made mistakes. We all do. Thankfully there are no cameras to capture every false step we take. I really feel for Britney here.

Britney's little sister seems more well adjusted then she does. oye vay!
I feel so sorry for this baby says:
Babies need to weigh 20 lbs AND be a year old before they can face forward. Even if a baby weighs 20 lbs- if they are less than 1 yr, they don't have the neck strength to safely face forward and in the event of a crash, forward facing, esp for such a little one, weighing so little and with poor neck support, would be very very bad. Neck strength, development is the key, not just weight. In Europe they keep kids facing backwards much longer. They know it's safer.
And the convertible- gawd how about road debris- poor, poor baby. So sad.

mommyofone - this is the link I used to see the California law, so I guess I would say I am not IGNORANT of the law. http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/cgi-bin/displaycode?section=veh&group=27001-28000&file=27360-27368
As far as I go, you have NO idea how old or how much my children weigh so dishing out advise you have no clue about is unwarranted and unwanted.
My point was maybe this kid, like my son, just screams and screams when they can't see their parents. Have you ever driven in a car with a child screaming and not stopping? My children are both well over 20 lbs and in my opinion what I am doing is fine. I have a son who has made it to the age of 11, almost 12 and when he was little, they did not have the car seats they have today. My son survived just fine.
AND YES I know we know more things now then we did then, but think about this, were there as many accidents then as there is now??? Things now a days are so over exaggerated because of people's opinions it is disgusting.
On that note - The American Inventor will change all of this - The man on there that has invented the spinning car seat will put an end to all of this. Upon impact the car seat will spin around therefore eliminating any chance of whip-lash.
Once again - the only reason we are all even discussing this is because she is a celebrity.

Britney, Britney, Britney. It just never seems to get better for you. Poor little Sean is probably being beat by the wind and other elements back there. If she would have gotten rear ended, his neck would have snapped. Then the incident where she almost dropped him...Yikes. Those two should not be allowed to have any more children.
