Squish squish. As I said earlier, it's going to be a rough few weeks on the couch at The View. The latest reports have Barbara Walters saying she tried to get ABC to keep Star on The View, but the viewers hated Star as each day passed by.
"I love Star and I was trying to do everything I possibly could up until this morning when I was betrayed to protect her," Walters told The Associated Press."We tried to talk them out of it," Walters said, "and we tried to give Star time to redeem herself in the eyes of the audience, and the research just kept getting worse."
So, Star Jones pretty much did get fired. Squish, squish.
Reynold's Announcement Upsets Walters [ABC News]

UPDATE: ABC has asked Star Jones not to return. This is following Star's revelation a day earlier that she was "leaving" the show, and her announcement that she was basically fired from the show. According to a source close to Jones Reynolds, "ABC has asked her not to return to the View tomorrow morning." A source close to The View confirmed that Star had been asked not to return.

Sarah says:
I'm surprised that Barbra Walters went on record with her comments. Seems she could have been gracious and simply let it all roll off her back. Instead, she decided to jump into the middle of a mess and stir things up further. Low points for her.
As for Star Jones, the Gods have finally seen to it that she gets hers. Such self-indulgence over the past several years is finally biting her in the ass. The fact that she even brings up her faith is beyond repulsive. Was it that same faith that told her to be full of greed when she was planning her fake wedding?
I'd say this is the last we'll be hearing of Star, until she starts her new job on the TV Guide channel co-hosting commercials with her old pal Debbie from the View.
joann says:
I AM GLAD STAR IS LEAVING BUT ROSIE COMING IS GOING TO MAKE THE SHOW WORSE. I WILL NOT BE WATCHING AFTER SEPTEMBER 1

equinox says:
Well Star,
What goes around comes around.
m says:
Well of course Babs had to jump in on that shit!! She couldn't have Star bad-mouthing the people who have been feeding her for the past 150 years, or however long she has been on TV.
And hahaha omg Sarah you beat me to the comment about Debbie and her TV Guide Channel gig. That is sooooo good.
alicia says:
The view will not be the same without Star. It is ashame that Star was let go the way she was. Good luvk to Star!!
Maggie says:
It just gets worse.
Barbara Walters just made a statement on The View regarding Star Jones and how she blind sided the show regarding her leave. Barbara left no room for misunderstanding. Basically, she threw Star Jones under the bus.
While I hated Star Jones, I will now add Barbara to that list. She has proven herself to be a thin skinned control freak who gives a shit about nothing other than her own show. Even at the expense of another human being.
I think this is the point where Barbara becomes a joke just like Dan Rather and all the others who have fallen from grace after a very long and distinguished career.
Harsh!
ms.vitamoe says:
I just don't understand why Barb acted like this was so new to her.......i dont know why people so mad at Star........good Luck Star
Stoney says:
I can't believe that idiot talking about her shoes! Can't she find anything else to say?! HAHAHAHAHAH!
And Star is a dumb cow who got exactly what was coming to her.
Janet says:
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you STAR.....you haven't contributed to The View since you married and especially since you've lost weight and had a BOOB JOB. You pissed off Barbara by TAKING THE SPOTLIGHT in announcing your departure in a way that sounded like you were the star of THE VIEW
WRONG...........WRONG.............WRONG.....
WRONG..........she would have let you go with a little DIGNITY............but you thought you were ABOVE THAT.....you were going to be IN CONTROL.......I DON'T BLAME BARBARA FOR BEING PISSED, PISSED,,,,,,,PISSED..........HOW EMBARASSING FOR HER WHEN YOU TOOK COMMAND OF HER SHOW..................NOT YOURS............I'M SO GLAD THEY FIRED YOU AS YOU CLAIM..........CAUSE HONEY THAT'S WHAT IT CAME DOWN TO............BY YOUR OWN CHOOSING............YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE ACTIONS TAKEN BY THE STUDIO..............GOOD LUCK ON LATE NIGHT COMMERCIAL TV ADVERTISING..............
As for Rosie coming on ............... I will not be watching.............a LESBIAN OF ALL THINGS..........how's that for a VIEW (POINT)
lynne montgomery says:
Good luck Star! You did right to state the truth about leaving the show. Ms.Walters shoulder feel as bad as she looked once you made your announcement...and for the record I dont believe the show will continue in a good light with Rosie on the show. People think you speak your mind...Rosie gives a few new words to the View...NO CLASS, NO STYLE, and YES TOO BUTCH!

patty says:
Cudos to Star for taking control of her own destiny. If they were going to announce her leaving the show on Thursday, why NOT announce it on your own terms. Star has the right, she spent 9 years on that show and although the last couple she hasn't been as sassy as before, she still helped to MAKE that show! And...Look at all the publicity she's getting now as opposed to a quiet exit which would have done nothing for Star. Look at all the publicity "The View" is getting, when really since Meredith's left and Barbara has taken the helm (temporarily I HOPE) the show has been mundane, boring, and basically the forum for Barbara's HUGE ego! I say Good for Star here, she knows how to spin it and I'm sure she will land on her feet. Now, as far as "The View"?.....
People were looking forward to the Rosie vs. Star showdown in September, it is not to be. Whats the point of even watching now? "The View" has finally and once and for all "jumped the shark", has become no different then every other mundane daytime talk show. I imagine it won't last out the 2007 season. Barbara, you "jaws" you...you have sabatoged your own show.
PixiePincessMom says:
Oh man! The one day I miss The View! I did catch it this morning before heading outside to swim; I guess I missed the part where Barbara was a "b"??? What did I miss??????
Grier says:
but really who wants to watch a FAT angry lesbian everyday...my goodness
I can't stand Star or Barbara says:
Star is a bitch. Nothing new there. Did they really think she'd leave without making a stink? BUT all those other women were also bitches for playing "surprise" at yesterday's announcement.
They should just left it alone this morning, and I agree with the poster that said Barbara is "thin skinned and a control freak" because she is. Why fake the surprise at the announcement? FAKERS ALL OF THEM!
I never watch the show, but the crap going down is just unprofessional on both ends.
Kim says:
KUDOS TO STAR! I watched the show infrequently - and though I'm not a Star fan - I'm glad she got out of that hell hole of menopausal bitches - and now they're adding a trifling lesbian who is only mad (like all the rest of you haters here)that she LOST WEIGHT and still has her man! Why would you be upset about a woman experiencing love?! Sheesh - stop being so self ladies and get your own lives, that way you can stop being consumed with someone else's VIEW.
Congrats to Star for pissin' on Babs' face and callin' it rain - the old heffa's gonna kick dirt soon anyway...AND she's gonna reap what she's sown..and MORE. I can't wait to see her on her ass. The show is over...doesn't ABC understand that NOBODY wants to see Rosie's ugly face every AM?! UGH. Curses on ABC!! LOL
Tansy says:
Wow, what an anti-fat, homophobic bunch. Charming.
Carol says:
FIRST of all, Star was well known with her people (Black community) before coming to view. So, Baraba did not help make her famous.
Star had more education, more real life experience, and a better resume, than everyone else on the view.
IT IS WELL KNOWN CELEBRITIES RECEIVE FREE GIFTS ALL THE TIME...............SO WHAT IF SHE GOT FREE THINGS FOR HER WEDDING.
Does it really matter how she lost the weight? No
Is is Rosie's business? No
Rosie gets all pissed off, when people disagree with her life style, so why the hell is she hating on someone else.
ABC failed to realize the demographics (BUMPS - Black upwardly mobile professionals)of the people, who watched the show because of Star.
This morning, after hearing Baraba's lies about Star, I changed the channel, and will never watch "The View" again!
ELIZABETH SHOULD BE THE ONE TO GO. SHE BRING NOTHING TO THE SHOW!
Ryan says:
I've only watched the show at a friend's house now-and-then--not on a regular basis.
As far as I am concerned, Joy Behar has "Star" quality. Meredith has "Star" quality, too. I look forward to seeing Meredith in the morning. Joy should really have a TV show, as she's very talented and extremely funny.
Star's Christian friends must be wealthy TV evangelists. They, like Star, have "gold"itis.
Star's wedding was an ostentatious affair. It was just a bit, too, too, too, too, too, too, too, too, much. Apparently, the wedding is in the equation, as to why ABC is not renewing her contract.
Janet, don't watch Rosie. That's your choice, but sexual orientation is NOT a choice.
I've enjoyed the show over the years. There's no question that the show is very entertaining to watch. Nine years is a long run in the TV business, and I wish the show good luck. Maybe a few tweaks here and a few tweaks there will rejuvenate the show.
Ninety-nine percent of TV is not worth watching, but The View is at the top of the class.

B says:
It would seem that I feel the need to defend Star everyday. Here I go again. This time I am only deeply saddened that her departure has been so sudden. There was no goodbye show for her like there was for Lisa Ling or Meredith Vierra, and I know many people will miss her. The truth is the View is like a reality tv family that many of us have watched for 9 years. I have received great wisdom and knowledge and strength from all the women on the show and while I disagree with Elizabeth's political beliefs, wish Barbara would take more days off, and love Star, Meredith, and Joy more than life itself, I accepted everyone for who they were and kept following this tv family. It saddens me that they could pretend and be so fake yesterday and then come on the air today and simply cut Star out of the show as if she were nothing. This has been a huge lesson to me that we no longer value people. I caution us all to be careful. You never know when you may go to work and be "fired." Star needs a bit of support and compassion right now. I wish you all the best Star. I have laughed with you for years and know that you have a special light inside that only you can shine.
Jody says:
I also loved "The View," mostly without Barbara, although I respected her other work for years. It seems like the girls were more relaxed when Barbara was away.
Things got worse the last couple of years. Star irritated me sometimes, but not enough to make me turn the channel. The show was entertaining.
I will not watch Rosie. She's too loud, too overbearing and butchy. Her lesbianism does not bother me. She's just not my cup of tea.
I wish Star the best in her future endeavors.
Ryan says:
Show business, including TV, is a "fake" world. It's a very cut-throat type of existence. One minute it's kiss, kiss, kiss and the next minute you're literally getting the "bird."
Today you can be a "S-T-A-R" and tomorrow you can be a has-been. Show business seems to be based on who you know, and your agent's pal list. Talent seems to down the list a bit.
Remember Melba Moore? MELBA WHO? She was a fairly big star in the '70s, and then she just vanished.
Apparently, Star didn't exit the way ABC wanted her to exit. That's a no-no. Maybe she wasn't treated fairly. Who knows? But, she should have exited the way ABC wanted her to exit. In the end, she's only hurting herself even more.
What are the odds she'll write a book about her years on The View, and her beef with The View's producers? Pretty good I'd say. She most likely will sign a million dollar contract with a book publisher. We all love this juicy gossip. Her book will sell like hotcakes.
Star is bright and talented with a law degree. Even if she doesn't write a book, she surely has several million--mucho million in the bank, not counting a multi-million dollar apartment. Of course, in NYC a small apartment can fetch nearly a million dollars. I don't expect her to end up in the poor-house like Melba Moore. Far from it.
Supposedly, she had by-pass surgery--I guess, to lose weight. Rosie has accused her of not being upfront about how she lost the weight.
This world can be a very ugly place. Yes, anyone can be fired, and it's best to keep your guard up even with the best of friends. Loyal friends may not be so loyal.
Show business is not for the faint-hearted. Rejection is the name of the game. One must be tough as nails in show business. It doesn't hurt to be tough as nails, even if you're not in show business.

Star Jones Reynolds is a talented, intelligent woman. I'm sure she'll return to her first love- practicing law. During her nine years on the view, it was evident that she missed being a part of the legal system. She lit up when legal questions were directed at her. Give her time, she'll bounce back.
Randi says:
I think Katrina's right: Star will be returning to law. I'm sure she'll try to sue somebody for something (e.g. defamation of character). I can't say I have a problem with what Barbara W. did. Seems to me she was trying to nip the situation in the bud.
Marie says:
Quite frankly, I believe Star represented 'real women' ... I found her honest and down to earth and I think that what ABC/Babra WaWa did to her was unprofessional and downright shameful. I think many people need to rethink their attitudes towards strong women ... if a man stands up for themselves, they are 'great' ... if a woman does it, well, they are called many things and most are not respectful.
So many people have no problem criticizing others; yet how perfect are they? Or anyone? It's not easy to be in the public eye, and be a strong personality on top of that. I think Star gave a lot of confidence to women, and gave them tools and 'permission' so to speak to stand up for themselves, take control of their lives, and not feel ashamed that they have a valid opinion. I will miss that and I will no longer watch a show that use to be 'for women, about women, etc.' and then turned into EVERYTHING negative attributed to women in power. Shame shame shame on Walters and who ever else was part of it!
I wish the best for Star; she is a true professional and deserved MUCH better!

Star was/is a role model to a lot of overweight women. How many overweight women do you see on TV? Not that many.
Once she lost the weight, her most identifiable feature was missing. She became more glamorous--more Hollywood, if you will.
Star is a role model to black women. How many black women do you see on TV? Not that many. Yes, there is Oprah, but the list is rather short.
She could return to a law career. Her options are many. Obviously, she could host a TV show pertaining to legal matters.
As I see it, there's more to the story than what is being told to the public. Maybe not, but at face value it just doesn't add up as to why her contract was not renewed.
Star will find a job. Let's don't worry too much. She's very intelligent and bright.
If Carmen Electra was fired, she may not find another job. Worry ourselves to sleep--yes, yes, yes.
Paris Hilton losing a job? Worry, worry, worry? Yes, yes, yes. What would this "poor" girl have to fall back on? Only a 100 million or so--that's all.
I still haven't figured out what Carmen Electra's JOB TITLE is. She has famous friends, but other than that she has no obvious talent.
I think Star's STAR POWER is bright and shining. The View's STAR POWER has dimmed a bit.

your right, star jones is a role model to over weight women. that is if your a lier who wanted people to believe she worked the weight off.shes also a greed whore who made a mockery out of her wedding. so all you star loves must be just like her. you deserve her as your hero then.
