As a tribute to Jessica Simpson moving on with her life, we take a look back at this classic Movieline photo shoot. With rumors of Jessica Simpson hooking up with Dane Cook, and rumors of Nick Lachey hooking up with Vanessa Minnillo, it seems like the perfect time for the final ball to drop. TMZ has obtained documents signed by both Simpson and Lachey that show they wish a divorce decree be entered.
The documents, which TMZ obtained from the court, need a "sign off" from the presiding judge before it becomes official. The judge is on vacation until next week. Assuming he signs it -- and there is no reason he wouldn't -- Judge Senit Henry could issue the divorce decree immediately. Under California law, a divorce decree cannot become final until six months after the divorce petition is filed. Jessica officially filed for divorce on December 16, 2005, just over six months ago.
Get ready for a fierce battle over the millions that Jessica Simpson earned while the couple was married. Under California law, all earnings and most other assets acquired during their marriage are divided 50/50. She has offered Nick considerably less than 50%.

Jessica seems to be flying high these days. Contrary to what many of the rags have said, she just doesn't look all that sad to me. She keeps herself busy and is surrounded by friends all the time. Nick basically got dumped, so he's still really feeling the pain. Since he claims to have loved her so much, it's too bad it had to get to this. Once they saw the relationship heading south, they should have gotten some help. Jessica was too young to marry in the first place. I don't believe she was ready. She's still young and probably doesn't want to think about marrying again for the next 10 years. She looks like she's enjoying her freedom.

Sasha, I don't think it has as much to do with age as it does maturity. There are plenty of women who get married at 21/22 that are mature enough to realize that marriage is a lifelong commitment and that it takes work.
I think Jessica thought marriage would be all romance and flowers and when it didn't turn out exactly how she wanted it to, she asked for a divorce.
Sadly, she's going to realize that there is no such thing as a man that's going to give her exactly what she wants (Nick probably catered to her more than MOST men would). That's just the way a marriage between a man and a woman works.

I think Jess didn't realize that marriage is HARD work. You have to work at keeping it together. You don't just sign a paper, say some words in front of a priest, and then sit back. And I also agree with you that Nick probably catered to her more than any guy is ever going to. I think she thought that, when she left Nick, she'd have guys falling all over her to replace him. Frankly, they just wanted to replace his DICK. I think, long term, she's going to regret this divorce, if she doesn't already.

First off, Nick deserves half of what Jessica earned. Without him, she would have never become the "celebrity" that she is now. The tv show definitely pushed them into the lime light and she needs to recognize that.
Second, I got married at 24. I'm still married 10 years later. I was young by modern standards, but we're still married. Marriage is not easy, and divorce is. You kind of knew where that marriage was heading when you watched their show....even in the first season.

Jessica's head inflated from gaining all that fame during her "Newlywed" years. Her down to earth, nice girl persona went out the window. She will get a BIG wake up call now because many people can't stand her anymore. Take it from someone who use to like her. She's so Fake now in appearance and personality. Her new single (Public affair) is a total copy of Madonna's "Holiday". Horrible! She needs to dump her father or tell him to back off a little because he has brought her down. I mean she is a grown woman who seems like she can't take care of herself...it's just sad!

When she and Nick were about to get married, he wanted a pre nup. Her father had a fit and Nick backed down. Now that Jessica has a lot of $$ now, everyone is bagging on Nick about getting 1/2 her money. But it was o.k for her to do it when they thought HE was going to make the millions.
