Introducing the Puff

Sc071106

In an attempt at what I'm guessing is keeping himself current, Sean Combs has once again changed his every-evolving moniker.

According to Page Six:

"While Puffy and his posse waited for the light to cross, maybe over to Trump International or Time Warner Center, a pedicab driver wearing a yellow SpongeBob T-shirt, a red and white Santa hat and black bike tights, yelled out, 'Hey, P. Diddy, how about ride, help the working man out?,' " our spy reports. "Puffy replied, 'I always help the working man out. And it's Puff, brother!' " After Combs started crossing the street, the driver yelled, "Yeah, Diddy, how cool is a guy that changes his nickname more than a baby changes diapers?" Our witness reports: "A crowd was laughing at the driver's crack, and some other pedicab drivers started ringing the bells on their bike. I don't know if it was to show solidarity with the driver or what, but it was surreal."
How much do you love that pedicab driver? Now, I want to write a screenplay based on his diss of Puff Daddy, and his gang of bell-ringing compatriots.

And this just brings me back to a point I've been making for years, which is that certain people simply shouldn't be allowed to give themselves nicknames. They abuse the privilege and go overboard. From now on, Mr. Puff (or whatever), let everyone else decide what's distinct about you. For me, it's the image of Puff Daddy hawking Proactive Solution, emphatically declaring, "I ain't want no bumpy skin!"

Now, go figure out a way to make that work.

Ok Ms. New Editor,
I totally get that you don't like Puffy. However, if your going to quote him, quote him correctly. He said " I didn't want any bumps on my face." That is a far cry from "I ain't want no bumpy skin!" You make him sound like an old house negro. Is that how all black people sound to you? Yes, he black, but that doesn't mean he uses poor English. And...yep, I'm black.

Puff!? Puff?!

Has anyone noticed his name keeps getting shorter? Next year it will be "Pu". You all can argue about how that would be pronounced.

Love the picture of P. Did...duffy...fluffy...or what ever the guy's name is. Well chosen and very appropriate!

I decided during the last namechange that my permanent name for him is Wheat Puff.

Laughing hysterically at Erica's attempts to defend P Doody's horrendous grammar

Funny thing is, if he were white, the white folk would be calling him a dumb cracker

July 11, 2006 4:21 PM

Seriously. Enough with the ridiculous names already. How can I take someone seriously if they are named Puff Daddy, Chingy, Snoop, Blinghole, Asscheek, Juicy Poo or what the fuck ever other stupid name you can think of!

I won't take Puff Doody seriously until he has another hit - I mean, he hasn't had one in years!

PS - Stoney, you're great!

July 11, 2006 4:35 PM

Keller, Are you saying you aren't offended by the term "white cracker?" If so, that's pretty sad.

July 11, 2006 4:49 PM

Erica- Diddy/Daddy/Big Dud or whatever he calls himself today, makes me sick. He is all about $$$ and making a name for himself on the backs of others. His 15 minutes is up and if someone wants to make this simpleton the brunt of a joke, I'm all for it. :D

BTW- If someone called me a "white cracker" in THIS day and age, I would bust up laughing in their face. Seriously.

July 11, 2006 4:54 PM

Erica, stop calling others 'sad' because they have a sense of fucking humor. Lighten up!
Here Tine, have a toke.

July 11, 2006 4:59 PM

Erica, I guess that was over your head

The point is that whites are perhaps, a little more discerning, and don't idolize & defend someone just because they share the same skin color

Thank you everyone for your comments about my comment. I now realize the content of this website is written by an average "editor" for average people. Clearly, this website is not intended for someone like me.

Man - screw this idiot. Rich idiot but still an idiot. I did the VMA awards for MTV last year in Miami and we called him "Piffy the little black Hitler". Asshole almost ran over a stagehand pushing cases in his frigging Bentley. His driver actually hit the man lightly - we all yelled for the guy to fall down and fain injury - there were 20 union witnesses. He changed his mind on the blue carpet entrance at the press conference - announcing it would be white. Great - 10K in carpet now the wrong color. I was glad when a hurricane almost rained out the show. Fuck him.

Everyone should stop picking on Erica. However I do agree that it was funny. What is even funnier to me (apologies Erica, but you rather walked right into this one), is the following:

"Yes, he black, but that doesn't mean he uses poor English. And...yep, I'm black."

It's "he is black" or "he's black." When I read "he black," I knew immediately before reaching the end of the sentence. It's a common grammatical mistake that I hear many blacks (and some whites) making quite often. Anyway, thought that was kind of ironic...

Let's bring the focus back to Diddy (Puff, whatever...). Another choice quote of his from the same commercial was:

"It moisturizes my situation and maintains my sexy."

Now, that's a good image to have there.

In defense of everyone around the world, who have been cursed with silly nicknames:

All of this stuff with Erica is irrelevent. The bottom line is that "Diddy", "P. Diddy", and "Puff Daddy" are all stage names. Puffy (or Puff for short) is his real life nickname. Not different from Buffy and Muffy, i.e. the nicknames of the Yuppies of the '80's. (That's cute, he can use that in one of his songs).

I guess you can tell that I'm a little sensitive about nicknames since I've been stuck with Dooney for over thirty years (yes long before Dooney and Bourke became popular -- now it's been unwillingly expanded to Dooney and Bourke).

Anyway, for all of those who dislike him, stop talking and writing about him. It's not like he's writing these stories himself.

what an awful group of racist people on this site. i'm a white woman (if that matters - which on this site it appears to) and am appalled by some of the crass comments made toward blogger erica. shame on you all. what idiots!

Define Irony, "he black" was actually a t-y-p-o. However, I am glad I made you feel relevant. Now go test your theory on someone else.

Well, the reason Whites have not learned to defend someone like them just because they are White is because Whites don't have (at least in America) the experience of having their ENTIRE race told to sit on the back of the bus, drink from a separate water fountain, sold on acuction blocks like cattle and forbidden for votinng etc (all black experiences in America.

Once a group of people go through that, they automatically bond and protect each other.

Look at the Jewish people. They defend each other passionately. Why? Because they know what it is like to be eradicated and destroyed as a people.

So this bonding has nothing to do with race - it has to do with any group of people who share a common history of suffering, genocide, and horrors.

Why is that so hard to comprehend?

Daisy doll, or perhaps they don't feel self-defensive enough to defend someone merely because of their skin colour. The ones who do are usually prep-schoolers who get a feeling of superiority from looking down on the more judgemental (but usually correct) masses.

There's a stupid human attitude that you are somehow being unfaithful to your race/sex/minority group if you don't obsessively defend a member of it, no matter how obnoxious, greedy, tacky or freakish they may be. Think of Tiger Woods being bashed for not assigning himself the straightforward "black" label -- he was being true to himself and his heritage.

Me, I have no problem bashing other women if they deserve it.

It's also rather silly of you to drag the Jewish people into it, because I don't see THEM passionately defending a ridiculous Hollywooder just because he is Jewish. In my experience, they tend to be substantially more critical, because they don't want the Jewish counterparts of Diddy reflecting badly on them.

Why is THAT so hard to comprehend?

"The point is that whites are perhaps, a little more discerning, and don't idolize & defend someone just because they share the same skin color"
way to sound ignorant. and i'm white. many white people are so defensive towards others for pointing out racism, in order to make themselves believe that racism is no longer a problem in america outside of rare circumstances. the fact is that racism is so hegemonic in our culture that people often say racist things without intending to or realizing it or thinking that it's a big deal. this is a prime example of how important it is to properly quote someone when writing an article.
p.s. i have a sense of humor. a great one. so there.

I actually admire Diddy, I really dont give a damn about what you guys say, because puffy is a success story. Dropping out of college to being one of the riches man alive. So how many of you guys can say that you are actually better than Puffy? NONE,! Beacause if you where, we would be writing about you. You don't have to like him, but show some respect.
