Project Runway Recap Fashion

11pm - I didn't go to happy hour, and I've just finished watching Project Runway III. I decided NOT to watch the casting special so I could be extra judgmental of the designers' products. And well...it looks like we might get another Chloe.

My mission this season is to rank, rant, and raise some questions about the each designer's final product. One week might solely be based on Tim's comments, while another might pay more attention to the hem lines, but here it goes.

Project Runway the Third:

Episode 1: Make something out of what's in your apartment

In order product appearance on the runway

Laura: Fur coat made out of a rug, very regal, very her, but what's with the bangles on the bottom? Her coat was still one of the top 5 that walked down the runway this episode.

Bradley: Dress out of a mattress, but it looked like a pillow case. Maybe it would be comfortable to pass out in after a long night of drinking? Who needs pajamas when you've got what Bradley designs?

Keith: HE WON. His dress was a simple navy halter with buttons along the back. Cute, simple, and well...that's what Chloe used to do. Glad he took off the placemat and kept with his original idea b/c it looked great.

Angela: Interesting dress, but there was about a foot of fake flowers sprouting from her model's shoulder blade...awkward.

Kayne: Red boobs and flowy red fabric down the back; it looked nice, but didn't stand out amongst the better designs.

More of the "Project Runway" fashion recap, after the jump.

Malan: Made out of a rug, the top sweater/jacket looked nice, but the skirt was a horrible length. He's on the show after trying out 3 times, but he's got potential.

Bonnie: The model's boobs were almost on display, but the dress was preppy, cute, and did what it needed to do...stay on the model.

Katharine: I don't remember what she made, I guess it was boring.

Michael: His was my favorite; he made a halter dress out of coffee filters. It was quite a delicate dress for a big black dude to make, but I think he should have won.

Vincent: He's insane, the girl wore a basket on her head, but the judges liked his design once he removed the hat. Where did he come from?

Alison: Simple cute dress, seemed predictable from her.

Stacy: She can't sew, her dress was boring, she hasn't gone to fashion school...thank goodness she's gone

Robert: I really liked his design. At first the back looked like a Christmas present, but the wall hangings really made the red bows come together with a dress you would never guess had once been a duvet cover

Uli: Khaki colored, yellow beads, simple, cool, nothing too impressive.

Jeffery: This tattoo-necked designer went a little overboard. The design was cluttered, but not in a Santino-cluttered way, it was just too much, and he almost got eliminated.

Top 5 designs this week: (the rest are just details I don't care to worry about)

1. Michael - coffee filter dress

2. Keith - navy halter with buttons along back

3. Robert - red bows and wall hangings

4. Laura - classy fur coat, although I could have done w/o the bangles

5. Bonnie - it was preppy but edgy at the same time, I want to own it...but maybe she could fix the bust line

What the hell is that supposed to mean? It's a backhanded slam not a compliment. In order words you had a preconceived notion of how someone you never met would do things based solely on that person's race. You expected this one black man design something the way your mind perceived a "big black dude" (plus Michael couldn't taller than 5'10 maybe 160 lbs - how is that big) would design clothing and surprise he didn't - that's racial bias - he's human first and foremost not some black automaton. Was he suppose to make the dress out of wooden spears and hunting tools?

You really should not let skin color be the reason you expect things of people. It not about being poilitcally correct its about being human.

yeah, the big black dude comment seems pretty ignorant, although i'm sure that the author meant well.
i actually loved that laura chose the hanging decoration to incorporate into her design. it may be a bit loud, but i thought that element was cute. hope the fur was faux!

Blacks never get recognition for their work. most of white America seems to think that they are cleary "incapable" of creating anything of much worth. Michael is talented and he deserves to have one at least one challenge by now. Notice how he was never chosen by any of the clients like Ms. USA or Macy's to be a leader. I find it quite ironic and disturbing.
