Pope080706

I saw this picture and I couldn't help but share it with the world. The Pope gives me a new faith in mankind as he struts his little red loafers for all they are worth. The white socks only make it all the better.

I am guessing that Gucci got their ticket to heaven by offering up the Candy Apple Red slip-ons. Usually members of the clergy take a vow of poverty, but I think in this case (being that he is the Pope) he is turning a blind eye and throwing a few extra Hail Mary's in at confession.

Yes, I am probably damned, but I do it because someone has to.

haha. so they wonder why christianism isn't serious anymore? the pope is wearing gucci.

Are they Gucci or Prada???

They're Prada, and this picture is old- this picture came out shortly after his ordination as pope.

As a Catholic, I'm ashamed. Members of the clergy take a vow of poverty yet can afford gucci/prada loafers?! Goes to support the claim that the Catholic church is extremely wealthy.

urbancoko: Just because someone takes a vow of poverty does not mean they have to deny gifts. That's what the shoes were - a gift.

Those are Prada. I think they look interesting (in a good way), and as long as he wasn't going on a wild shopping extravaganza in Rome to get these shoes, i really don't care that he wore them. Also, yes, this picture is way old.

Apparently, you all are not very good Catholics. If you were, you'd remember that only nuns take a vow of poverty- priests do not. Both take vows of chastity and obedience, but the poverty is reserved for womenfolk. Priests can own whatever they want.

Actually some orders of priests do take vows of poverty but diocesan priests do not. Also the red shoes are a historical part of the papal garments dating back to the 16th and 17th century.

skwerly76, both monks and nuns vow to practice monasticism, as implied by the very nature of taking on the role--it's not reserved for just females.

You seem to be forgetting about the Fransicans, the Augustinians, the Dominicans, and the Carmelites--they're all mendicant and their first orders are all monks (second orders being nuns).

I'm a terrible Catholic, but even I know that.

Rather than offensive I find it hillarious!
Red shoes! Jajaja
