Kate Moss On The Offense

Share

Kate Moss can't win for losing. The wedding tittle-tattle is swirling thanks to the new giant rock on her boney finger. Not to mention crazy Pete was seen in a lip lock with the supermodel extraordinaire last week, living in a contemporary fairytale of "Beauty and the Cocaine Beast."

Kate is currently offending the local Muslims in the East Village District. The offensive is Moss' topless body which graces a giant billboard across from a mosque sending the men into frenzy. If you are oblivious to the Islamic belief system, it is inappropriate to look at a naked or insufficiently dressed woman unless it is your wife.

Translation, some Muslim wives and leaders are totally pissed off.

I fully respect other cultures and religions, but I think the Muslim community in East Village din't really have much right to complain. I've never been to New York, so I don't know if East Village is predominantly a Muslim community or not, but the way I see it, they're living in a country, in a city that is very much based on commercialism, advertising being a huge part of that.

Maybe the people who put up the billboard should have been a but more thoughtful, but I think the Muslims also need to not be so rigid. Already, people have to cover up when visiting any Muslim country, and fair enough, its their country with their rules and their cultures.

But while I understand some of these people have been born in and grew up in America, they have to understand that people don't have to abide by their cultures. They can't say it offends us so we want it changed. They chose to live in America, I think they should deal with and accept certain parts of American culture and not complain about it. In essence, its basically "when in Rome, do as the Romans do".

If there is any question about respect, then it has to be addressed that by living in a "free" country, boundries have always been present.Granted, you're not going to please everyone, but when it comes down to the touchy topic of religion, almost every religion has something that will offend them. To have a topless billboard, of all things, right across from a place of prayer is, you have to admit, kinda disrespectful. Yeah, we live in the U.S., butjust move that bilboard over somewhere else, no need to get rid of it completely. What if, for example, there was a billboard picture (for whatever reason), of Prince Harry wearing that infamous Nazi costume right across from a Synagogue? Is that not also disrespectful to those it offends, for whatever reason one may choose? Offense has nothing to do with being rigid, or wanting everything done a certain way. It just means that something has been dealt with lightly, therefore it is offensive. My point is, that while companies surely are free to do what they want here in the U.S., it is not fair to delegate the term "respect" for those deemed worthy; we should try to respect, and at least understand, all views.

I totally agree with Me, Imagine putiing a large singborag infront of a Church that offends the Jesus in the name of Freedom......I do not think this is Right for any relegion. Kate Moss is not to be blamed but the Advertising Company. All relegions should be respected.
