While Lionel Richie is concerned about Nicole Richie's dramatic weight loss, he claims that she's not anorexic. It's a stress thing.
"I stood in front of [the doctor], just like you and I now, looked him in the eyes, and I said 'Is it anorexia?' And he said 'It isn't anorexia,'" the musician told the Swedish newspaper Expressen, according to our translator. He says Nicole's weight loss is "stress-related" and he believes it's due to his divorce from her mother and from all the media attention his daughter gets."I live with the constant fear that Nicole is going to become the next Princess Diana," Richie said, apparently referring to the late royal's death while she was being pursued by paparazzi. "Just to give an example of how crazy everything has become, I always know when Nicole is on her way home because she is always followed by a helicopter and seven cars. It's harassment."
But, he claims, photos of Nicole have been digitized to make her look even skinnier than she is. "Many times, they manipulate pictures of her," he says. "She's shown me the difference between the original and what's published in the newspaper. They make her look much worse."
And it's a conspiracy thing. Plus, why did he have to throw in the Princess Diana thing? He may have been overstating the "helicopter and seven cars" claim just a tad.
More photos of Nicole Richie are after the jump.

Well, OBVIOUSLY Lionel isn't going to come out and say she's anorexic if Nicole hasn't said it herself to the media...
Can you imagine how PISSED Nicole would be at him if he revealed something like that??
Lionel respects Nicole, so he's not going to say anything to the contrary of what she says.
(Remember, "stress" is Nicole's reason for her weight-loss too...)

I respect Lionel sticking up for his daughter but stress-related NON eating IS anorexia. When you have a psychological issue that causes you to not be able to eat, it needs to be addressed. It's one thing that it's taking a toll on her emotionally but it's also doing her in physically. I love the girl to death but her family needs to help her get the help she needs to become healthy again and denying that part of her problem is an eating disorder does her no good. Damn....
