US Weekly's celebrity news blog, this minute, is polling readers to find out if they believe Grey's Anatomy star, Isaiah Washington (who plays Dr. Preston Burke on the hit show), should be fired for hurling a gay slur at a fellow castmate during an altercation with co-star, Patrick Dempsey (AKA, Dr. McDreamy). According to the blog:
Because of the extreme nature of the slur, The Enquirer withheld the name of the costar to whom it was directed. But it appears that the incident ended up forcing cast member T.R. Knight out of the closet. Earlier today, Knight announced that he's gay in a statement saying, "I guess there have been a few questions about my sexuality, and I'd like to quiet any unnecessary rumors that may be out there. While I prefer to keep my personal life private, I hope the fact that I'm gay isn't the most interesting part of me."And all this attention focused on Washington's fiery temper has led costumer, Bryan Birge, who worked with Washington in the past, to speak out about his experiences with the talented, albeit seemingly volatile actor. Birge was so shaken by his 1996 fight with Washington on the set of police drama High Incident, he filed a restraining order against the actor. Birge says his troubles with Washington started when he tried to make sure the actor's wardrobe was always the same for successive scenes in the film, and he blew up when the costumer told him to take a magazine out of his pocket. Speaking exclusively to The National Enquirer, Birge recalls, "He grabbed me by my throat, choking me. Then he picked me up and threw me over a couch." When Washington refused to take Birge's restraining order against him seriously, the costumer called the police: "They came down, handcuffed him and took him off in a squad car."All I have to say about all of this is that if Isaiah's temper in any way shape or form has any kind of detrimental effect on one of my favorite shows on the air at the moment, so help me God, THAT man is going to know what it feels like to be thrown over a couch.
