With Britney Spears' recently announced divorce proceedings threatening to completely upstaging the Reese Witherspoon/Ryan Phillippe dissolution, a statement issued by Ryan Phillippe proves his divorce is still worthy of media attention. People online reports:
In an exclusive statement to PEOPLE, Phillippe says, "I'm not a perfect person, but I'm not guilty of a lot of the things I have been accused of. My priority is and always has been the health and safety of my family." Phillippe, 32, and Witherspoon, 30, have a daughter Ava, 7, and son Deacon, 3. Phillippe will not comment on reports that a relationship with Abbie Cornish - the Australian actress who costars with him in an upcoming film - played a role in the demise of his seven-year marriage to Witherspoon. But his reps vehemently deny other recent allegations of hard partying and drug use.As for the female companion in question, she seems to be doing her best to lay low. From the New York Post:

Cornish was a no-show at her own screening, hosted by the Cinema Society and Cole Haan, held a week after reports surfaced that she broke up Hollywood's golden couple, Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillipe. And while Cornish was staying away from the scene at the Tribeca Grand, that kind of shyness is a big change from the past, according to one source, who said Cornish and Phillipe flaunted their relationship on the set of "Stop Loss." "He took her to the movies, they went to dinner, everything in public," said our spy.I wonder if this is going to turn into a Brangelina-type situation. Without all the adoptions.
