Ah, Looking Back at 2006

What's your favorite part of the end of the year holiday season? Well, if you don't mention--at least once--the good times to be had reminiscing over all the nonsense that took place during the twelve months prior--then I know you're lying. Cause ain't nothing we like better than end of the year superlatives.

Let's start with CNN, who named Britney Spears the most controversial star of 2006. From CNN's "Showbiz Tonight" blog:

The over-the-top antics of the likes of Mel Gibson, Michael Richards, Tom Cruise, Anna Nicole Smith, Naomi Campbell, Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, Madonna, Star Jones and Britney Spears provided non-stop fun and follies on which we feasted. But in the end, after much thought, "Showbiz Tonight" on CNN Headline News has named Britney Spears the "Most Controversial Celebrity of 2006."
That's right, folks. Britney was a pretty busy lady, what with her loser hubby's attempt at a recording career, that infamous interview with Matt Lauer in which the world got to watch her face melt on TV, more cheetos and red bull and just when you thought she might let the title slip from her fingers as other, nearly equally controversial stars made a play for it, she ended the year strong with some pantiless nonsense and a short-lived friendship with Paris Hilton. Kudos, chica. You really earned it.

Another title won by Ms. Spears was brought to our attention by Starpulse New Blog:

More on that, plus more of the year-end review after the jump.

Taylor Hicks, the American Idol winner who was commended for being a role model to young people, heads the list of the "Ten Best-Mannered People of 2006," as named by the National League of Junior Cotillions, an etiquette and social training program that involves thousands of young people in the United States.
In addition, Britney Spears received the dubious distinction of being named "The Most Ill-Mannered Person of 2006," "for lowering the standards of morality and her negative influence on the behavior of young people."
Britney's going to have to clear out her trophy case to make room for all of these prestigious honors.

Leaving subjectivity behind, The Rolling Stones left nothing to interpretation when they nabbed the distinction of possessing the top grossing tour of 2006, and even though I know this is just "some magazine's opinion," I can't help but wholeheartedly agree with Entertainment Weekly's naming of the cast of "Grey's Anatomy" as the top entertainers of the year as a fact that can be scientifically proven.
