K Middleton 01110705

USA Today has a report about how everyone in Britain is obsessed with Prince William's girlfriend Kate and how there are whispers about a possible engagement and how she's the next gen Princess Diana. I'll believe it when I see it.

Could a replacement for Princess Diana be in the works?

Prince William of Wales and his commoner girlfriend, Kate Middleton, might --might -- be inching closer to engagement, so suddenly she's news beyond the United Kingdom. She could be the next queen, assuming William's stepmother, Camilla, remains a mere duchess once his father, Prince Charles, ascends the throne.

More comparisons, after the jump.

Buckingham Palace denies that a William-Kate engagement is imminent, but paparazzi attention has grown so keen in recent weeks that a team of bodyguards is guarding Middleton at her home and escorting her to work and clubbing in London. Last month, in her most prominent public appearance since they met five years ago, Middleton and her family were invited to the ceremony for William's completion of officer training at Sandhurst, the Royal Military Academy.

But both say Middleton and Diana are different in significant ways. "Diana was much younger, less experienced, less worldly wise," Herd says. "Kate has been given training" on how to deal with press scrutiny.

Kelley doubts Middleton will capture the public imagination the way Diana did almost immediately. It's true that she's "very stylish, pretty, smart, much more educated than Diana and of a savvier generation," says Kelley. But unlike Diana, she doesn't combine the qualities of vulnerability and flirtatiousness. "She sees the press, especially the paparazzi, in a much more adversarial way."

I don't know about you, but I'm more of a Prince Harry man myself. I just block out the whole unfortunate dressing as a Nazi for Halloween incident. Hot readheads can do that.

The queen can skip her stoopid son and select her grandson.. I hope she does. Charles is a weirdo.

You'd think that the paparazzi AND the world would have learned a lesson with Diana. Leave Kate alone. I know Diana wasn't all that smart, but she was kind hearted, and I miss her. And she at least was able to ACT like she had some class. Since we no longer have Diana, we're forced to watch the likes of "Paris the walking venereal disease petri dish", and "Nicole Look at Me! Richie".. The world is a much sadder place indeed.... Just leave Kate & William ALONE!!!

Excuse me! I'm British, no hang on, I'M ENGLISH and no way in hell am I obsessed with Kate whatshername.

In fact I don't give a rats ass, the new Diana, oh someone shoot me PLEASE!!!

Woolworths have already made the Royal Wedding stuff, jumping the gun a bit!!

She knew what she was getting into, scrutiny wise, when she started dating him. She's not an aspiring actress and they've been dating for a long enough time that you'd think he would've smelled a rat by now if she was only looking for the exposure.
If they have a healthy relationship then good for them and I hope it all works out for them, cuz their love and loyalty will defin. be tried.

Diana gave life to the world with her vision and caring. She truly taught her sons to open to the world what is in their hearts and look beyond the royal image. Charles and Camilla are a disgrace to the British family of royalty and have not given to life as Diana and her sons have. Banish the British throne and give Kate and William a new life together.
