Fashion Fix: Must-Feast-O Manifesto

26-italy-fashion-anorexia.jpg

The debate continues the war on underweight continues. A possible ban on "stick-thin" is threatening models' careers as weigh-in's, BMI requirements, and even doctor's notes are becoming necessary to even take a step onto the catwalk. Even the Italian government is becoming involved in the issue. The doctor's note will be needed to prove healthy conditions with approval of BMI, weight, and body structure, which has designers and fashionistas in an uproar.

Many stances of pro and anti ban are being taken.

Fausto Sarli is one of the leading designers and gives his abrasive but to-the-point thoughts:

"If you try to stop well-paid models working, they will kill you. Among all the models, only two or three are really anorexic. They work for Armani, for Valentino. How are you going to throw them out?"

Meanwhile, people like Donna Karan and Anna Wintour are tag-teaming the issues on the council, which seems ironic considering Anna's well-known stance on model weight. She might as well be the poster child for putting the fork down for a career in modeling. The situation has become extreme and no one seems to be finding a happy medium. It seems like if we're not worrying about anorexia and bulimia, then we're struggling with obesity and gastric bypass surgery. It's enough to make one terrified to open the refrigerator.

Peronally, I say if the bitch looks like she's knocking on death's door, she needs to go home and eat a cheeseburger. However, if she can't step on a scale without the little wheel spinning madly out-of-control, then she needs to do a few laps around the runway. Here's to a happy healthy medium!

one of those is photoshopped.

Hi there. I don't know if you're aware, but the picture of the model on the right (in the dress) is pretty drastically photoshopped. I've seen the original and she's not nearly as severly underweight as this picture would have her appear.

I'm not trying to say there isn't a problem with super skinny models (I'm with you on the happy medium), but it would stand to reason that you'd want a real photo to illustrate a real problem.

she looks regular to me

Check out Vlada Roslyakova...reportedly 19 years old.

She's SO fat! Gosh, lay off the pizza all ready! (sarcasm...she's 2 days away from death)

I see nothing wrong with using any size model from 00 to whatever size jeans go up to these days.
It's really up to the fashion houses and what they want to use. If they really wanted to stop using size 00 models then they should also stop selling those sizes.
But when you stop selling those sizes and using those models, you're also sending the wrong message out as well. You can make women who are very thin feel like they have something wrong with them because they can't be a so called healthy weight. I think the designers should use models of ALL sizes not just ones with normal BMI's.

MEG, I disagree with you a hundred percent. A woman who is 5 foot 9 or more should not be wearing a 00. it is rare that a woman is medically that thin unless it is gentics or they are sick. I do agree that models should be thin, but they should not look the skeletons. Society looks down on heavy people with more dismay then they do with overly thin women like the olsen twins and nicole richey who are under 5foot3 and are very under weight. I do agree with having thin women in fashion, but not women who look like living corpse and steal the beauty of the outfit on the runway.

I still dont understand why they dont use models with the body types of Victoria's secret. Those models are clearly thin, but clearly healthy. They are a good representation of both.
