America Ferrera is hot, and even Congress thinks so.
Ugly Betty star America Ferrera was already honored at the Golden Globes, and now she's been lauded in Congress.Congresswoman Hilda L. Solis (D-Calif.) took to the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives on Wednesday to publicly salute Ferrera, 22, for her Globe win and for raising the profile of Latinos in popular culture.
"Madame Speaker, I rise today to congratulate America Ferrera for winning the Golden Globe for best actress in a comedy for her work in the ABC show Ugly Betty," Solis said.
"Through her work, Ms. Ferrera is breaking down barriers for Latinos in prime-time television. ... I commend America and everyone involved in Ugly Betty for helping to break down stereotypes and provide a role model for young Latinas."
Awesome. I think America needs her own goddamn day - "America Ferrera Day". We'd all have unibrows and bad wigs and then rip them off to reveal the hotness beneath. I need to stop drinking during the day.

Um, er... pardon me Ms. Congresswoman--- am hoping that you meant "latina" as opposed to "latino". Maybe it was a typo, otherwise you seriously need to reaquaint yourself with your constituants.
Princess says:
Oh gosh, stop freaking out about the Latino/Latino thing - I am Latina and I wasn't so neither should you. On another note, America rocks and Ugly Betty is THE best show ever. Congresswoman Solis was right to congratulate her, especially as it is so true that there are very few positive images of Latinas in the media - which, btw, Salma Hayek is doing NOTHING to combat, at least through her character, (I am aware that she bought the rights to the Spanish version of Ugly Betty and is respopnsible for the new version). Hayek ended up looking like a total skank after this past episode. I know it's a plot thing, but why did the she devil (who I still can't understand usually) have to be so darn manipulative?!

I think that it's wonderful that America's getting such wonderful kudos- it's well deserved. However, I think Congress has WAY more important things to do than spend time talking about celebrities. I shudder to think where this country is going if even our politicians are obsessed with celebrities to the point that they bring them up in session.
