In response to the tabloid headlines that read "America's Next Top Waddle" and "Tyra Porkchop," Tyra Banks has finally decided to respond publicy by speaking with People magazine on the issue. From People:
Now, for the first time in an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, Banks, 33, is publicly discussing her much-buzzed-about weight gain. "I get so much mail from young girls who say, 'I look up to you, you're not as skinny as everyone else, I think you're beautiful,' " she says. "So when they say that my body is 'ugly' and 'disgusting,' what does that make those girls feel like?"

As for how Banks feels about her own 5'10" body - which she says is at 161 lbs. these days, about 30 lbs. heavier than when she landed on the cover of Sports Illustrated's swimsuit issue in 1997 - she says: "I still feel hot, but every day is different. It's when I put on the jeans that used to fit a year ago and don't fit now and give me the muffin top, that's when I say, 'Damn!' "As much as I think Tyra Banks is a maniac, I do think it's ridiculous to imply that the woman is fat, when seriously, she's just gone from a supermodel body to a normal, curvy woman's body. And I have a feeling she's carrying the weight better than Giselle Bundchen ever would. It is fun to imagine the what would happen if Naomi Campbell had gained some weight and some dumb schlub started calling her fat, though, cause I doubt there would be less People Magazine interview, and more of the punching in the face.

Even though I'm not a personal fan of Tyra Banks, I have to admit she looks completely "normal" in these pictures and not fat.
But then again what do I know, I'm not looking at her through the eyes of some who think sticks like Nicole Richie and Kate Bosworth weigh too much!(YUCK!!)

I think Tyra is gorgeous. She's earned the right to put on a few pounds after such an amazing career. She's paid her due and put in her time. She looks radiant and glowing! A truley beautiful woman. People tend to forget that being 100 lbs when your 5"10 isnt heathly or beauty... it's just plain gross. Kudos to her!

so what if she gains a few pounds?? Really, so what? that woman is the SAME BEAUTIFUL WOMAN she was when she was modelling.
One picture can cause a stink like that when that woman is showing up everywhere looking as good as she does. It is amazing how gullible the public really is. Actually, it's offensive how gullible the public is and how much the media plays off of that stupidity.

plus, is it just me or did that infamous photo look a little squatty to any of you? One thing that stood out was Tyra's face in that photo. I don't care how much weight you gain, your facial structure remains the same, Goddamnit! And her face seemed suspiciously shorter than it normally is. Seriously, Tyra has this gorgeous, long, sleek face and in the picture it seemed rather short and round. She doesn't have a round jaw cut, nor does she have a short face or forehead.

Not only that, anyone's legs will look shorter, and therefore squattier when the photo is cropped at the knee like that! Anyone will appear to have heavier thighs than they do if they stand like that, crop the leg and show every single curve, like a one piece suit would..
God it makes me so angry.
Tyra had enough trouble being teased for her thinness when she was younger. Now she has the body she probably always dreamed of if you ask me and she can't have that peacefully either.
Poor Tyra. I guess if you're that beautiful, people will always pick you apart and try to prove to themselves that the competition in the world isn't so special after all... Really, she should be flattered.
So we are punished for being pretty or thin, we are punished for not being pretty or thin.
