Screen Actors Guild Awards: Film Winners

Share

Big winners of the night were the cast of "Little Miss Sunshine," each of whom went him with a SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture, beating out "Babel," "The Departed," "Dreamgirls," and "Bobby." This win came as something of a surprise to the cast themselves, according to Reuters:

"I'm completely floored by this. It means a great deal to us," said Greg Kinnear, who plays the father in the film. He said no one expected the film to come as far.
Unsurprisingly, Helen Mirren won big at the SAG Awards, scoring herself awards for playing the Queen of England in both "The Queen" (Elizabeth II) as well as in HBO's "Elizabeth I."

More commentary from the Screen Actors Guild Awards after the jump.

Keep an eye for Mirren to stretch her acting abilities in the future as she plans to take on the roles of King Henry VIII and Prince Charles in her next two projects. Oh, I'm just kidding. I did actually think she was really good in "The Queen" and I also really loved her in those recent Gap print ads, so clearly my opinion of her acting abilities versus those of her competitors is an educated one. Also, Jeremy Irons, Helen's co-star in "Elizabeth I" snagged an award for his role in the HBO drama. I have no idea why he's always dressed for a wacky funeral. But he's an actor. They're eccentric! Ta-da!

Forest Whitaker's portrayal in "The Last King of Scotland" of Idi Amin, Uganda's brutal dictator, won the actor a SAG Award, and is it just me, or was he totally hitting on "Ugly Betty's" America Ferrera during their presentation of some award I can't remember?

Julie Andrews was honored with a Life Achievement Award and I really wish that she would have risen out up through the stage to the sound of "Wind It Up" complete with some back-up Harajuku dancer girls dressed in Lederhosen to accept the award, but alas, it was not meant to be.

"Dreamgirls" also made a good showing for the evening, with Eddie Murphy and Jennifer Hudson named accordingly as best supporting actor and actress for their performances in the film. Maybe I'm just a sucker for a movie which could just as easily have been named "Wigs & Cleavage," but I'm satisfied with their wins. And I'm sure SAG is breathing a sigh of relief as they read that.

I love Rachel and Ryan! They're so cute together!

Can't wait for the TV pics, especially Grey's Anatomy. Katherine Heigl looks amazing.
