Beauty Buzz: Oatmeal Not Just For Breakfast

Share

Oatmeal032607We all know that oatmeal is a great breakfast treat, but it can also be used as a scrub! Unless you live under a rock I am sure you have heard of an "oatmeal scrub." It makes a great scrub because it soothes your skin, and is really good for those of you who have oily or combination skin. Oatmeal scrub is a delicate abrasive that gets rid of impurities and leaves you with sparkling, glowing skin!

The best part is that you can make your own oatmeal scrub. There are several different recipes out there, some of which include using honey and almonds as well. Here is one recipe that is easy to follow. You will need the following ingredients -

2 to 3 aloe vera leaves
2 Tbs. honey
2 drops geranium essential oil
2 drops palmarosa essential oil (good for fighting acne)
1 cup ground almonds
1 cup colloidal oatmeal

Continued instructions on how to make the scrub yourself, after the jump...

Instructions: You will need two ceramic or glass bowls, a stainless steel spoon, and a sterilized 8-oz. jar.

1) Cut the aloe leaves in half lengthwise and scoop out the clear gel into a bowl. Mix in the honey and essential oils.
2) Place the almonds and oatmeal into the second bowl. Stir in the liquid, adding a little distilled water as needed to make a thick paste.
3) Makes enough for two applications. Use the scrub and store the remainder in the refrigerator.

If you are not into making your own homemade scrub, here are a few that you can purchase: Oatmeal and Olive Oil scrub from BeesWork.com- this product also contains rosemary which is good to soothe tired sore muscles and can help fight acne. A 4oz bar of Oatmeal Scrub Soap is $4.95 or you can get a slicing bar that is 16oz for $13.95.

Harvestsoaps.com offers a Honey and Oatmeal Scrub that contains conditioning cocoa butter and a splash of goat's milk to make this bar even gentler to your skin. You can purchase a 4.5 oz bar for $4.90. If you have a favorite homemade scrub share it with us, we would love to hear about it!

I use coffee grounds & olive oil on really dry winter skin, such as my legs. It works great and really wakes me up in the morning.
