Donatella Versace might turn a blind eye to Star magazine's consistent inclusion of pictures of her in their "Worst Beach Bodies" issues, but she draws the line at the media's focus on her daughter. Donatella and Paul Beck are joining legal forces in an effort to sue several newspapers for their coverage of their daughter, Allegra Versace Beck. Intially, "The Insider" released the report that Allegra had been taken to a hospital and was receiving treatment as a result of her eating disorder and included the following statement from her parents:
Versace and Beck issued a statement to the program that clarified the situation, stating the couple "wish to make it clear that their daughter, Allegra, is not at the present time a patient in a hospital of any type, but is residing at her private address and her state of health is stable.""Our daughter, Allegra," it continued, "has been battling anorexia, a very serious disease, for many years. She is receiving the best medical care possible to help overcome this illness and is responding well. As parents, we are doing our best to protect our daughter. However, due to numerous media reports, we want to let everyone know that we appreciate their concern for Allegra, and we ask that her privacy be respected at this time.
"We ask that moral consideration be shown to Allegra and that she be left in peace so her recovery is not disturbed."
After the story went public, several newspapers in Italy and the UK picked up coverage of the event, but failed to include the statement and as a result, Versace and Beck have decided to take legal action. Well, as for me, I plan on respecting Allegra's privacy during this very trying time in her life. Oh wait, actually...I guess I don't, if I'm posting about it. Oopsie.
