Mandy Moore Is Incredibly Self-Aware

Mandy Moore fesses' up in the June issue of "Elle" and admits she's "mediocre". Good for her. Not everyone can be a champion. I fully realize I'm not Michael K. or Tyler Durden. It's ok, I'm coping.

Asked in the June issue of Elle if she considers herself a better singer or actress, she says: "I'm mediocre at both. I'm not trying to come across as self-deprecating. I'm just being honest."

Her first album in four years, Wild Hope, hits stores in June. "I don't want any expectations," the 23-year-old says. "I just want people to know that I still sing. Most people don't realize that, or else they hate my music - rightfully so."

She's blunt when looking back on her image as a '90s-era teen pop star. "I'm sure I was viewed as the young, untalented one," she says. "Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera had some great pop music. And then there was Jessica Simpson. And then there was me. And that's fine."

Moore has even called her previous albums "trite, blah pop music" - but she chalks it up to the foolishness of youth. "I'm sure other people look back at things they did when they were 15 and go, 'Oh God.' That's how I feel about it. It's embarrassing."

I love how she recognizes that Jessica Simpson sucks. But damn, self-esteem check! Why's she so down on herself? Answer: she's depressed. Keep reading for how her break-up from the "Scrubs" guy sent her into a tizzy and how it sucked when she was asked to lose weight for a role.

The songs on the new album, however, are raw and deeply personal - and many listeners are bound to assume some of the lyrics are about her ex-boyfriend, Zach Braff. (Moore has said her split last year with the Scrubs star contributed to an ongoing bout with depression.)

But when asked about the relationship, she's diplomatic. "Out of respect to Zach, who I still consider a friend and care about and support, I have nothing to say about him," she says. "It just didn't work out."

She says she was once asked to lose weight for a role, an experience she calls "mortifying."

"It's hard to have someone come up and go, 'You should lose a few pounds.' And they don't say it delicately. How can you?"

I was asked to lose weight to write this blog, Mand. I smell what you're stepping in. My publisher was like, your sausage fingers are so damn fat you can't even type fast enough to reach your deadline! And I was like, bitch I need those Ring-Dings! They're my little chocolate hockey pucks of love! Truthfully, Mandy seems like a nice chick. She needs to stop beating herself up. At least she kept her looks, dignity, and hair.

Geesh. I have to say she got this one spot on. I have to say I genuinely respect these comments. 5 points for the Moore.

I WAS GONNA SAY SHE SUCKS....SHE IS NAILS ON A CHALKBOARD FOR ME.

I think Mandy Moore is darling. I also think she can act AND sing, so I don't know what she's talking about.

Whaddya mean, self esteem? She's got it! The ones who DON'T have it are the totally talentless ones like Parasite and Blow-han who BELIEVE they have it and that the world adores them. Mandy Moore is a great role model (except for that Wilmer thing) and seems to me she's totally grateful that she has a career (deservedly so) in this business, unlike all the other brats who think because their parents are rich they are entitled to one. Good for you, Mandy!

Her songs were mediocre, but her vocal quality is ace. Britney's crap voice always sounded like she was singing through her sinuses and Christina's, while "Ok", is not as controlled and refined as Mandy's.

And Mandy's a pretty decent actress. She's cute!

Hey J! You rank just under Micheal K, but above Tyler Durden. You are awesomely funny and hot.

Mandy was good in Scrubs, cant say I've seen her do anything else. I like people who embrace their crapness. Its fine as long as they're not whining about it, ala Halle Berry, attention-seeking dumbassed coke-whore!!!
