(WENN)
Well, I went home and had myself a big ole' class of Merlot and stopped clutching my pearls. I also found out that the word "gyp" might be considered offensive, like "indian giver". So my bad. Anyway, Sandra Bernhard must have called up Roseanne's ass or she realized on her own that comparing gay people to evangelicals was full-on retarded. So she posted an explanation and an apology .
My Bad.....I deeply regret that I have offended gay people. I said things that I do not really mean, before I had thought them through... I was wrong and I seriously apologize!
Call me up today and let me have it! I will apologize and try to make clear what I really meant to say... which was that everybody needs to unite right now, and step outside of their own neighborhoods, groups, races and classes to stop Bush's war on our country and our people. I love gays and I hate division. I am just a big idiot with a big mouth sometimes. I will learn to be more careful! Please forgive me, I am so sorry!!!!
Keep reading for where she explains what she meant.
What I Meant To Say:The leaders of gay groups need to align with the leaders of Acorn, and other groups of poor and desperate Americans and fight against those who oppress all of us! I have met too many gays who are Republicans, and I cannot understand how they could choose that! Let's all leave our own bedrooms, kitchens, neighborhoods and groups and meet each other to form a diverse army that stands for Democracy and Economic Justice!!!!
(Again I apologize for any pain or hurt I have caused those whom I have always loved and befriended).
Well, uh, ok you're forgiven. We all talk out of our asses sometimes. Yesterday I was irritated and said that I hoped your various husbands beat you in trailers. That was a little...uh, strident. *red-faced*

Tom Sederburg says:
What? Gyp is offensive?
Get the hell out of here.
Later,
Tom
P.S. Roseanne = yawn.
Mary says:
That's probably the best apology from a famous person I've ever seen. Usually it's all excuses and "you misunderstood" and denials. This actually sounds honest, believable, and sincere. Thanks, Roseanne. We all have a big mouth sometimes.
DarthPaul says:
Roseanne is dumb. How is she even relevant anymore?
As for "gyp"...it's obviously short for "gypsy" and implies that gypsies are cheats. Whatever, but the word gypsy itself is considered offensive by that group (the Roma) since it means that they're Egyptians when they're something else entirely. So I don't think it's offensive, per se. No one can sue you over it, so it can't be offensive, right?
Yummsh
Yeah, she used lots of exclamation points, so she MUST have meant it. Who cares.
Geez. What a gyp all this has turned out to be.
sasha says:
finally peopla apoligize from the heart not pr but still hold to what they meant
ShutIt says:
I'm gay, and I'll say this....she's right! Gay folks have to realize that being gay doesn't define who you are as a person. It's just a piece of who you are. And everything in the world doesn't HAVE to revolve around that. I'm a daughter, a friend, an animal activist, a traveler, a student, a church-goer, a charity-giver, a writer, and so much more! I mean seriously -- tell your friends that you're supporting breast cancer this year as opposed to their softball tournaments and HRC, and it's as if you shot their mothers! Tell them you have some Republican idealogies about LESS government intervention and more capitalistic freedom and you're ostracized for life! Tell them you believe in God and they all snicker behind your back! Seriously, someone needs to tell the gay population to be more tolerant of the diversity within their own community! It's total hypocrisy!
ShutIt says:
Oh, and by the way, Rosie -- Republican doesn't automatically equal right wing. There was a time in history when Republican meant LESS government intervention and more rights...
NJ says:
I just wanted to make a comment about Roseanne's call to arms for "Democracy and Economic Justice." By Economic Justice, I'm fairly certain she's calling for a system that doesn't promote the widening of the socio-economic gap. *cough* socialism *cough*. I guess I just find it funny coming out of the mouth of a millionaire. Is she saying that she has no free will to sign over her fortune to those less fortunate? She's got to gather an army to form a government that forces her (not so much her because of the accountants she'll hire to protect her money) and everyone else to do so... Awesome. I guess the irony of her own bank account in contrast to her thirst to conquer "those who oppress all of us" is so blatant that I don't know how anyone can take her seriously.
Ha! ALL of us. Priceless.
rob says:
Rosie is annoying but I dont see why she should apologize if that is her opinion.
You ARE allowed to have opinions that differ from mine.
Its useless rincing our mouths about our freedoms and liberties and then have people be censored at every step.
Here is one for you: try to come out against an israeli action like the bombing of Lebanon last year and see how long you last.
Freedom of speech looks only good on paper or if everyone agrees with you.
