State of the Blog Address
Welcome to the middle of the week, guys. I love that this letter comes out on a Wednesday, so that it marks the mid-point from which I measure the beginning of the approach of the weekend. It's my version of greeting a co-worker in the kitchen with a "Happy Hump Day," while I struggle to keep my eyes open and pour my coffee.
Let's see...what to talk about. Well, first off, I'd like to chat about an event at the W in Westwood that Wayne and I attended last night. According to the invite:
The W Los Angeles - Westwood & Guy Hepner Contemporary announce the opening of the latest W Hotels White Space exhibition, "In My Stairwell," by award winning & celebrity photographer Mark Seliger. Join the W Los Angeles for the first look at this stunning exhibition of large-scale, black and white photography on exhibition in NINETHIRTY Restaurant and W Los Angeles Living Room.
It was definitely a classier group than Wayne and I were used to seeing at the events we usually get invited to--more black on black outfits and less exposed cleavage and Forever 21 than usual.
More on the event (plus photos), and Lisa's opinion on the Britney X17 video, after the jump...
The black and white pictures were beautiful and Wayne and I enjoyed sipping on our mango margaritas, while meandering around the restaurant, checking out the celebrity portraits. I didn't spot any stars there, although I did recognize a character actress, whom I'd seen in a recent episode of "Medium." I'm the kid in "Sixth Sense," only I see moderately famous people.
In stark contrast to this low-key, artistic affair, I'd like to further discuss Britney Spears' recent "artistic" expression, i.e., her recent video address to the public. I understand that she's been under a great deal of strain--pretty much since her career sky-rocketed her into international fame as a young girl--and that she's simply reacting to the everyday pressures of scrutiny. But seriously, this woman clearly has such an insatiable need for attention that she still has yet to learn how to fly under the radar.
I agree that she is, to a certain extent, a victim of the paparazzi, who follow her around on a daily basis, but with that in mind, why does she seem to go out of her way to draw attention to herself if that supposedly isn't what she wants? She dresses like an eccentric bag-lady, and then makes a video that sounds to me like she's a few improv classes and a Word-A-Day calendar away from actually saying something witty and biting that would prove those silly magazines that make her sound "stupid" to be wrong.
If she were really so very clever and disdainful of all the attention she's been getting, she'd play the ultimate prank on the world by wearing normal clothes, moving out of Los Angeles and raising her children in the peace and quiet she had taken away from her at a young age. Then, the joke would be on us, when she would end up with children who have grown into high-functioning adults, relatively free of the trappings, which plague her now.
But then again, as reasonable as I think I might be sounding at the moment, I'm not in her shoes. I think my sentiment can best be expressed by a line from Alice in the Disney cartoon, "Alice in Wonderland."
"I give myself very good advice, but I very seldom follow it."
Judgily yours,
Lisa T.

I love the site, but you've got to eliminate some of these ads. They cause it to take FOREVER to load the site, and I have a very high speed DSL connection. 9 times out of 10 I just give up waiting for the page to load, and go to another site instead. If you want to keep getting hits, you've GOT to get rid of some of these blogads.
