State of the Blog Address
This past weekend, I took a trip to Vegas with the fabulous Wayne Ford, and so far, I've only been to Vegas twice and both times, it's been for business and has lasted approximately 24 hours. The first time was on my crazy, and still pretty unbelievable Skyy Vodka Jet Set Junket. And now, here I was in town for the "VH1 Rock Honors." So, I've yet to really have enough time to get myself into some real trouble in Sin City. Sigh. One of these days, though. One of these days. Wayne and I kept joking that we were going to somehow end up married, with me calling my boyfriend drunk and Wayne HILARIOUSLY asking him for his blessing. And then I realized how absolutely horrible and not at all sit-com-like the reality of such a situation would be, so we stopped joking about it.
Our stay in Vegas was at the Excalibur, which one must always pronounce in a hushed tone. In fact, you get extra points if you hold up your forearms in an "X" whilst saying it. It was wonderfully Vegas--cheesy and full of unattractive, poorly-dressed tourists--essentially, in a word it was perfect. Wayne says that I'm catty in Vegas, but seriously, guys. It's not so much that I'm catty, as that people's ability to gauge what length of short is appropriate for public display of leg seems to dissipate as soon as they arrive in the comforting smoke and lights of Sin City and I merely feel the need to point this out. Repeatedly. Stacy and Clinton would understand.

So, we arrived Saturday afternoon for the show to start in just a few hours. I was lucky enough to coordinate this trip so that my sister and her husband coincidentally happened to be in town at the same time, vacationing with a couple they're friends with. Because I now roll like that, I was able to hook up my sis, Heidi, and her friend, Ashley, with tickets to the show, while Wayne and I would be all professional-like in the "special" press room. I like that the press room was essentially "short bus special" and not like "vip special," meaning that if any of us "special" press were seen wandering without an escort with a special green badge, perhaps moseying over to the green room where they were rumored to be serving champagne and other goodies, we would have had our hands promptly slapped with a ruler. Sigh.
At first, I wasn't all that excited about the event. I mean, I'm not totally little Miss Jaded or anything, but Wayne and I have done a few events like this by now--a red-carpet here or there--and after a while, you sort of just get the idea. It's a job, really. And predictably, I start off each event, a bit too timid to even get in anyone's way while taking pictures, but by the end, I'm practically throwing bows to make sure that I get that money shot of Ozzie and Sharon. It's amazing what two hours in a press room with flashing bulbs and other greedy journalists will do to an otherwise completely sane person.
But the best part of the gig came when Heidi and Ashley met up with us after the show, excited and breathless. "I have been bragging about this to EVERYBODY!" Heidi told me. "I told them, 'Yeah, my sister from L.A. got me tickets to a VH1 show and we're meeting her in Vegas!'" And then she and Ashley showed me the picture of the two of them in the audience, wearing huge grins on their faces, as well as their giant sunglasses. Ashley said, "I told Heidi we had to take this picture while ZZ Top played 'Cheap Sunglasses.'"
And that, my friends, is probably the coolest part of my job.
She's got legs, y'all. And she knows how to use them.
