This year's ALMA awards were as star studded as usual, with Eva Longoria playing host at the event which honors achievements by Hispanic Artists. This years big winners were "Ugly Betty" and "Babel."
Babel, which wove together stories in several languages on three continents, also earned the movie director award for Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, movie actress honour for Adriana Barraza and outstanding screenplay for Guillermo Arriaga.The outstanding movie actor was Jesse Garcia for his work in Quinceanera.
Babel was nominated for seven Academy Awards and won an Oscar for best score this year.
Ugly Betty earned the Alma award for outstanding television series, mini-series or TV movie.
Based on a Colombian telenovela, the ABC comedy-drama centres on a dowdy young Latina with a blazing spirit who intends to make her mark on the world.
Its star, America Ferrera, was named outstanding actress, Ana Ortiz earned the supporting actress award and Silvio Horta received a writing award for the pilot.
If you haven't seen "Quinceanera," run to your nearest blockbuster. It's a really touching and heartfelt film, and Jesse Garcia did a really great job.

I didn't know there were these ALMA awards. They're much better than the same old other award shows over and over. I flipped to it after regrettably attempting to watch what has got to be the worst show ever: "America's Got Talent". I see that Latinos are more than the greasy fence-jumpers that most TV makes them out to be.

Sorry but in the opening scene where Eva was dancing NEXT TO the Dancing with the Stars Pros I just thought..........I thought she looked horrible!! There's a real difference between a feminine women dancer's body & a woman who manages to never eat anything. It was like watching an anorexic trying to dance. She certainly must have been light for Mario Lopez to flip & swing around but DANG did she look horrible!!! I also don't find Tony her fiancee attractive either. He looks like a bit goof ball!
Some bodies need clothes her is certainly one of those types of bodies.
