UPDATE: An eagle-eyed reader found this AP article on the subject, which points out that:
When she [Paris] was sentenced May 4, Superior Court Judge Michael T. Sauer ruled that she would not be allowed any work release, furloughs or use of an alternative jail or electronic monitoring in lieu of jail. So, it will be interesting to hear what exactly her medical "justification" for transfer ends up being. I really hope it isn't serious, cause then I've just made myself sound like a heartless douche. Which is nothing new, really.
Initial reports made it look like somehow, Paris Hilton had been released from serving her jail sentence early, but TMZ has since clarified that the heiress has simply been transferred to house arrest. Medical reasons were cited by L.A. County Sherriff's Dept. mouthpiece, Steve Whitmore, as to why Hilton has been fitted with an ankle bracelet and will now be serving her time from the comfort of her home.
Paris will be under house confinement in her West Hollywood home for 40 days. After the 40 days are up, Whitmore says she will have "fulfilled her debt to society."Whitemore wants to makeit clear that Paris was not released early, she was reassigned. She is still technically in custody.
Well, shit. Maybe she did bust her teeth.

she most likely had a herpes outbreak (brought on by stress).
Kare Bear says:
Unbelievable!! This is a complete mockery! I can't wait to finish Law School OMG I am going after bullsh!t like this!!!
dezboy says:
Let me guess...her "medical" condition is going to be cured by the removal of that monitoring device at which time her skank azz will be back in the clubs. It's a miracle!!!!
Sarah says:
amazing.....simply amazing....
Loob says:
Expletive, repeat, repeat.

I am no fan of Paris, however, I think 5 days served in jail and now 40 days of house arrest is more than due punishment.
I was once arrested for a DWI, after having 4 glasses of wine and grazing a curb in a parking lot. I also received probation, fulfilled it, had no problems. The night I was arrested though, I had to spend 14 hours in jail (the amount of time it took to process me in and out). 14 hours seemed like a week. Was the longest 14 hours of my life, and I admit I cried the entire time. I am sure that Paris's 5 days seemed like a month to her. After my 14 hours I swore to myself that I would never do anything to ever have to experience that again! She must feel the same right now, it is not pleasant. I was luckily in a new, nice, suburban jail, but jail is still jail and it sucks.
While on probation, I of course had to undergo the mandatory alcohol evaluation. While waiting at my appointment, a girl came in wearing shorts and an ankle monitor! Ugh! The ankle monitor is HUGE! I would be humiliated if I would have had to wear one of those, it's not something you can hide. I think Paris having to wear that will certainly make her humble. I think it would be humiliating - it's like they have "tagged" you or something.
I think the monitor plus the house arrest is more than sufficient. Plus the 5 days in jail.

As pissed as i am i'm not really surprised money runs EVERYTHING it's just truly playing out right in front of our eyes normally it's all back door dark alley politics it's a sad day in america when rich people are able to use power and privilege to get what the want.. OH WAIT this type of underhanded "justice" has been going on for years medical condition my ass!!!
Mr. T says:
Sad irony is, if Paris were poor and ethnic, little, if anything, would have been done about her "medical" condition. What I have heard is that Paris was not eating what she was served in jail. I do not feel sorry for Parasite. Paris, Britney and Lohan are rotten role models for young women.
Annoyed says:
This is about 10 minutes past ridiculous! My cousing was in county lockup with a brain tumor and when she complained, the CO told her she could have a damn aspirin. THIS cum dumpster doesn't have any medical condition, it's called being a self-serving whore. And I thought the judge ordered that she HAD to serve her time in the clink and couldn't have house arrest as an option? What is going on in LA? I know money can buy a lot, but this is so beyond I can't understand how the person who made the decision to let her out sleeps at night. This waste of space is a danger to others, it's not like she was caught jay-walking, she was driving under the influence, she could have killed someone (and I'm not talking about herself - but someone important, like a regular citizen). I hate to say this, but I can't wait until she gets behind the wheel impaired again (and let's not kid ourselves, fools like her never learn) hopefully she'll do us all a favor and drive off a bridge. I am so sick of this skank, I'm just glad she got owned by Sarah S. in front of all the people she thought were her friends. Hey, if we're lucky, maybe she'll get blacklisted from all the clubs and she'll get so depressed she'll off herself.
Alienna says:
What a crock of bullsh_t!
brooklyn_ace says:
what bullshit. like i said before, if you're wealthy, privileged and not a person of color (except OJ "I Kill People" Simpson) in LA... you get a free pass.
like doing time AT HOME is ANYTHING like doing time in jail. she is basically taking a very cushy vacation from her public life.
this is really fucking gross.
michelle says:
Annoyed:
I understand your frustration. Keep in mind, though, that she was put in jail for probation violation and not for the DUI. Hardly anyone gets jail time for their first DUI, unless a serious accident was involved. I think her punishment for the violation is fair. Also keep in mind that her BAC when she was arrested for DUI was a .08. That is like having one drink, at her weight. DUI can happen to ANYONE. That's why my philosophy now is never even have one drink and drive. It's not worth it. Drink at home or take cabs.
silvie says:
oh he lawyer must be genius! poor paris, a couple of days in a jail, it must be terrible to spend so much time without getting sl**ty :(
Zekers says:
I heard yesterday that she complained of her cell being too cold, the poor pampered thing...perhaps in the land of too much money, if your jail cell is too cold, that is reason enough for release. Maybe her shrink got her out...
Unf*ckingbelievable!
skrpune says:
actually, having a .08 bac means you've likely consumed much more than one drink, even at Paris's weight/height. I'm about her weight, and although I get a little "happy" after one drink, there's no way one drink would push me or her over the legal limit. That is, unless it's one drink off a giant beer bong or something. I was curious so I searched around a bit, and here's a BAC calculator: http://www.coolnurse.com/alcohol_calculator.htm
If you play around with the numbers, you can see that it definitely takes more than one drink to be legally "drunk."
stac says:
She is such a publicity whore.. its ridiculous!! Is anyone else pissed about this whole situation?? I read a funny article about what to expect from her early release (house parties.. so on) found it here - http://collegecandy.com/buzz/3282
its a shame... says:
If this was your average joe/joan, the book would have been thrown at them (for DUI and driving on a suspended license). I thought justice was supposed to be blind? Did someone lift her blindfold? WTH??!!?? I guess money does talk and BS walks-- right out of jail!!!!!!!

skrpune:
Cool, I checked that out! Yeah, she would have had to have had about 2 drinks over an hour or so. That puts her at about .08. But still - 2 drinks is not that much, lots of people drive after having a couple of drinks. That's why I said it's easy to get a first DUI. You don't feel that impaired at 2 drinks, but you are actually not legal to drive. It's best to wait at least an hour or so after having a couple of drinks before you get in your car. And eat something. That will put you back in the legal range.
eseu says:
"House Arrest, Ankle Bracelet, Medical Conditions, etc, etc". What a slap on the face of the people. It is just too insultive.
Tonya says:
If it is a serious enough of a mental condition to change her ruling shouldn't she be released to the hands of a psyc unit not her posh million dollar house? How many cases have you heard that people kill themselves in jail because they have "mental conditions" for being in jail? The Judicial system needs to do a checks and balances on bad judges... injustice is served to the public once again.
michelle says:
its a shame:
The book WAS thrown at her for the DUI. Read the law - she got the standard punishment.
And this is not a shame. Please. There are many other worse travesties of justice every day. The law is not fair quite often, not just in Paris's case. The law is dependent on many factors, and not all of those factors are the actual "law". That's just an unfortunate fact of life.
Kare Bear says:
I've had it with the special treatment that they give these celebs. OJ should've been locked up Beretta too. California needs to fall off the country already because the behavior there is an embarrassment. The Governator better make some kind of statement about this. Hell this is the kind of bullshit to start an LA riot again!
NO MIchelle says:
No Michelle,
A DUI will not happen to people who do not have a drink before they drive. Driving while impaired is not something that just anyone would do .. it is unacceptable that society seems to believe that it is.
I hope that you will continue your life not understanding the impact of an impaired person behind the wheel of a car. Furthermore, before you say it - reaction times are ifluenced with one drink.
Kelsey says:
May I remind everyone who is like ohh poor her, it was her first DUI...UHMMM She was on probation for a reason people...this was her 2nd DUI AND probation violation... This is the reason that Nicole Richie is worried about jail time cuz it was her 2nd as well! Hopfeully...maybe one of them will go away for an actual sentence!
Dorothea says:
Thanks Michelle and No Michelle for your intelligent posts!
When I read the headline today I was livid---judgemental me was getting all riled up over the injustice of this self-absorbed little chicklet being treated any differently than someone without her privelage.
You both had very good points and I especially appreciate your insight and empathy, Michelle. :)
cockroachqueen says:
Sounds like the secretaries from her lawyers firm are being paid overtime to write sweet thangs about the Parisite...so when does she have her release party? Can we all go?
dat_dOod says:
Michelle, are you EFFING KIDDING ME?!? " I think 5 days served in jail and now 40 days of house arrest is more than due punishment." <~~~~GET DA FAWK OUTTA HERE WITH THAT COMPLETE BS.
Maybe to us "normal people" house arrest would be terrible but HEY MICHELLE, DID YOU NOT FORGET PARIS LIVES IN A LIKE A MANSION, WITH BUTLERS, AND ACCESS TO WHATEVER THE HELL SHE WANTS, WHEN SHE WANTS, HOW SHE WANTS?!! Man i hope that skank rots in hell along with ALL HER DUMBASS SUPPORTERS.
lookwhaticando says:
I have 3 friends that are Deputy Sheriffs, and Trust me some of the stories they tell me about people in jail, getting sick, and the system not doing ish about it. Just one example. A woman with diabetes, was sick, and they said it looked like her foot was about to fall off it was so badly infected, what did the system do...NOTHING.
Money talks people
its a shame... says:
1st thanks to everyone who responded to Michelle. I just got back on line. 2nd-- you cannot defend a person who has a disrespect for the law! The book was not thrown at her! How do you go from a 45 day sentence to a 23 day sentence to 5 days in jail then 40 days in house arrests in a 3000-4000sq home? Where is the justice in that? Who else do you know got that? Even Martha Stewart served more time than that in a facility and she was on house arrest after her release.
The biggest travesity here is all of the young girls who want to be like her and Lindsay Lohan and Nicole Ritchie will think its ok mimic their behavior and endure an extreme reality check when LIFE hits them with both barrels and there is no money or fame or public support to get them released from jail/prison!
Loob says:
I wish her house arrest ankle bracelet would be like the necklets in that movie "Wedlocked".
So that if she walks a little too far out of range, her whole body explodes. :D
