John Travolta Is Wretched

John Travolta is blaming Columbine and the Virginia Tech shootings on anti-depressants. Please bear in mind this is a man who has an allegedly autistic son who doesn't receive any treatment for it because he's "degraded" in the eyes of John's religion, Scientology. Also bear in mind that John flaunts his happy marriage all over the place but is constantly hitting on dudes in steam rooms in gym across America. And kissing men on runways. Plus? He's fat. Asshole. I'm officially over "Pulp Fiction".

John Travolta blames Virginia Tech, Columbine and all the other tragic school shootings not on the psychos who committed the heinous acts - but on psychiatric drugs. "I still think that if you analyze most of the school shootings, it is not gun control. It is [psychotropic] drugs at the bottom of it," Travolta told W. But the "Hairspray" film star won't be jumping on couches over the issue or attacking Matt Lauer as his fellow Scientologist, Tom Cruise, did last year: "I don't disagree with anything Tom says. How would I have presented it? Maybe differently than how he did, but it doesn't matter."
I know several hundred people who have taken anti-depressants in their lives at one time or another who haven't then marched on their high school with a shotgun. You're a dick, John. Hopefully you and Cruise can do a Scientology closet-case tour with your robo-wives. Hopefully there's a stop at a high school and some mentally ill student whose Scientology parents wouldn't get him to a shrink for his anger issues because Xenu thinks psychology is the devil's work shoots you. That's harsh but it's only Tuesday and I'm tired of crazy.

HILARIOUS WRITING!

Hear hear J Harvey. Of course it's the US gun laws that are to blame for Colombine and the like. Anti depressant drugs are prescribed by professionals to try and help depressed or suicidal people. It's not a perfect system and there are a few that flip out, but for the most part these drugs help people deal with hard times.

Those kilings were due to the fact that mentally unstable people were able to get their hands on firearms.

John, in future just stick to snogging men on runways. Your 5 minutes of cool was up ten years ago.

June 19, 2007 11:05 AM

I'm sort of sad John's being such a nut. I used to like him. But yes, John needs to stick to acting. I don't need to see him campaigning against psychiatric medications any more than I need to Sean Penn putting his arms around Saddam Hussein.

I can't stand John Travolta. All I can think of when I see him is that I bet he has fat sweaty balls. Immature? Yes. True? Probably.

June 19, 2007 11:19 AM

wow. too early for such venom -- it's way beyond snark today.

I was pissed on Sunday, he was on the cover of Parade Magazine (yes, I read it, don't judge me). Inside, there was a 'family' picture of him, his wife, and their daughter-NO PIC OF SON, and no mention of his son anywhere in the article. Dickhead.

From the page: "I know several hundred people who have taken anti-depressants in their lives at one time or another who haven't then marched on their high school with a shotgun." Now there's a scientific study on which to base an opinion! How about a real fact -- the number of school shooters who were taking ritalin or an equivalent: almost 100%.

I think John misses the point. There are some problem's with teenager's taking certain drugs for depression. But it's mostly suicide. Now if you make the leap of linking suicide to mass murcer, then that is crazy. I think at some point the celebrities take it into their heads that they are an authority on something that they learn from their experience. Xenu and out.

June 19, 2007 11:36 AM

You know, in Ireland, I speak about this country because it's where I'm from, plenty of people take anti depressants and the like and I'm sure there are those who wake up in the morning in despair and think 'I feel like going into work/school/college today and blowing everyone's bloody head off' but this hasn't happened because it's not easy to get your hands on a gun there. It has happened in the States because anyone can get a firearm.

I am tired of John too. Used to love him, but I was 5 years old and "Grease" had just come out.

There is a reason people get all ammo'd up and shoot people - they are mentally unstable. I don't blame gun control nor do I blame Ritalin ~ some people are just freaking insane and nothing is going to change that...If we'd quit trying to blame outside influences, maybe we'd see that there are just truly nutty people who are going to do what they want regardless of anyone or anything else. Everyone wants to have a reason to excuse bad behaviour. Sometimes it's just bad behaviour...

June 19, 2007 11:49 AM

Well, I don't think it's just "bad behavior". There are a number of issues here, and I think it's important to address them all. It could be a mixure of things:

mental instability and/or misdiagnosed mental health issues
poor medication management (different drugs do different things to different people)
easy access to firearms
poor parenting
problems with the culture
extreme peer troubles and influences
lack of mental health care availability

For John Travolta to just blame one thing is simply irresponsible.

Green Cardigan said: "It has happened in the States because anyone can get a firearm." As they can in any other country. School shootings have occurred in Canada, England, Germany, Turkey, South Africa, etc. All are countries with strict gun controls. People intent on evil WILL find a way. Then, of course, there are the many other choices of weapons. Gasoline - used in the largest mass murder in the US. Box cutters. Fertilizer. Propane tanks. All, and others, have been used to perpetrate mass murder. People intent on evil WILL find a way.

June 19, 2007 12:02 PM

Dan Z - Point taken. In England, the last massacre occured in Dunblane in 1996. After this the firearm lawas were changed there, which banned the ownership of semi-automatic rifles and restricted the use of shotguns.

My point is that it is easy to get your hands on a gun in the States, easier than the other countries you mentioned, and therefore these massacres occur more regularly there.

June 19, 2007 12:06 PM

I suggest any time John Travolta wants to give his opinion on anything that we all just cover our ears and sing. Same goes for Tom Cruise but in his case we need to sing louder. They should keep their opinions secret or just write them down on a piece of paper then eat it.

June 19, 2007 12:11 PM

I agree with Linda B. I also wish they were in the closet about thier religion rather than their homosexuality.

June 19, 2007 12:24 PM

What's with hiding the autistic kid? That just pisses me off.

So, antidepressants are BAD in Xenuland, but - judging from this pic of John - horrible hair plugs and heavy makeup are a-OK. Got it! His priorities are strongly in order. Actually, I'm not sure if those are bad plugs or a bad piece. Either way, no good.

June 19, 2007 12:34 PM

LaTica said: "I also wish they were in the closet about thier religion rather than their homosexuality." Agreed!
T-bone-you know the answer to that question; he hides him because he is ashamed of him-he and that wife of his are total idiots who care more about how things look than how they really are.
I used to like John too, now he's just a moron with a pumpkin head. There, I feel better now!

June 19, 2007 12:46 PM

John Travolta and Tom Cruise both act like unempathetic, superficial zombies. They're probably all under hypnosis.

June 19, 2007 12:51 PM

He just wanted to use the word 'bottom'.
Greasy old queen.

June 19, 2007 12:54 PM

Antidepressant, antipsychotics, and stimulants (Ritalin) are NOT all the same thing. Everyone needs to get that right. Some drugs help some people, but not all. Doctors should be taken to task for superfluously prescribing drugs to kids, regardless of whether or not these kids commit violent crimes.

Also, gun laws are NOT to blame for these grievous crimes.

WTF is wrong w/Americans? Everyone seems to cling to kneejerk, hotbutton causes and solutions when, in fact, horrible crimes like these are far more complex.

Also, John Travolta SUCKS. Props, J!

June 19, 2007 1:17 PM

What is it with aging film stars? As they become less and less relevant in popular culture do they suddenly decide it's time to share with the world just how out of touch they are with reality? Travolta (who I start referring to as "Revolt-a") probably thinks his remarks are true pearls of wisdom but if he were actually thinking he might consider his remarks are not a comfort to the people who suffered through these very painful events. There you have it - the reality of a sheltered, rich actor who can't find the right thing to say without a script.

June 19, 2007 1:26 PM

Does he really "hit on dudes in steam rooms", J.? Just checkin;)

June 19, 2007 1:49 PM

Maybe not in steam rooms, but stories have been circulating for a while about his assault on male masseuses at certain LA area health clubs (from which he was ultimately banned).

And I'm sure Brooke Shields will vouch for the unimpeachable integrity of celebrity-scientologists' medical diagnoses... Right Tom Cruise?

Damn, I can't ever watch a movie or otherwise contribute to the bottom line of any celebrity scientologist (Anne Archer, Beck Hansen, Billy Sheehan, Carina Ricco, Carl W. Röhrig, Catherine Bell, Chick Corea, Chris Masterson, Corin Nemec, Danny Masterson, Edgar Winter, Eduardo Palomo, Erika Christensen, Geoffrey Lewis, Giovanni Ribisi, Greta Van Susteren, Haywood Nelson, Isaac Hayes, Jason Beghe, Jason Lee, Jeff Pomerantz, Jenna Elfman, Jennifer Aspen, John Travolta, Judy Norton, Juliette Lewis, Karen Nelson Bell, Kate Ceberano, Keith Code, Kelly Preston, Kimberly Kates, Kirstie Alley, Leah Remini, Lisa Marie Presley, Lynsey Bartilson, Marisol Nichols, Michael Fairman, Michael Roberts, Michelle Stafford, Nancy Cartwright, Pablo Santos, Priscilla Presley, Rev. Alfreddie Johnson, Jr., Sharon Case, Sofia Milos, Terry Jastrow, Tom Cruise, Xavier Deluc - Thanks to http://www.scientology-kills.org) knowing that the cash I lay down for my movie ticket or cd will ultimately wind up feeding Xenu Fever!

Yuk!

(Disclaimer: I attended high school with LM Presley's babies' daddy. AND I'm gay. "Church" of Scn doesn't like me very much anymore... Go figure...)

June 19, 2007 1:50 PM

Why can't these scientology freaks just keep their opinions to themselves?? They are o delusional they don't even realize what asses they are making out of themselves. I didn't know they had an autistic son that they are clearly
ashamed of. Poor kid. Thanks for the laugh J. Harvey!!

June 19, 2007 1:57 PM

Wait a minute, Mike ---

Juliette Lewis??????

J. Harvey, I LOVE YOU!!!!

June 19, 2007 1:59 PM

Just because psychotropic drugs work for some people doesn't mean that they can't have catastrophic effects on others. There's no logic in saying, "Paxil works for me so it can't possibly make someone else violent." Every medicine/drug has two polarities.

I've worked on drug trials. You never hear about the 2% who had negative effects from the drug...or died.

We actually don't know how these medicines work. And there is scientific proof that SSRIs cause violence and suicide in children. That's why they've BEEN BANNED for children in England.

Wasn't the Virginia Tech guy basically still a child?

Do the research. SSRIs were involved in many violent crimes. Columbine for example.

http://people.tribe.net/mrrogers/blog/77258e7b-d6e4-4b2c-9cd0-ff81d3f79e35

Why does challenging the current medical establishment (that is responsible for hundreds of thousands of deaths per year) make one a "Scientologist nut?" More of us should be looking more carefully at the dangers of our medicines, especially the ones that are prescribed for the mind. I'm not a Scientologist. I'm just brave enough to challenge the prevailing system. It's obvious to most people how corrupt our political system is. Aren't the AMA and FDA just as powerful?

June 19, 2007 2:04 PM

The way he treats his autistic son... shameful. Saw a pic on the web and he is clearly extremely handicapped, yet in PARADE he says, my son loves the outdoors and sports and he is so good looking i might put him in a scene just for that. LIAR! Family pics with only the daughter who of course is extremely good looking too. He makes me sick. I will NEVER see anything else he is in ever again! Someone should take the son away so he can get the treatment he deserves. Now he says they want to have another baby, that is pathetic. I say BOYCOTT this crazy, closet case and i agree some crazy school kid who is NOT on any medication should show him how wrong he is.

June 19, 2007 2:08 PM

nobody breaks it down quite like j harvey.

June 19, 2007 2:11 PM

Eric, while I wholeheartedly agree that psychiatric medications are not for everyone, you can't ignore the fact that they help millions of people deal with (and sometimes survive) severe depression, phobias, anxiety, bi-polar, schizophrenia, mood disorders and many other psychological disorders. The key is to monitor the usage closely, ESPECIALLY with children and adolescents.

My personal preference for treating anything of the mind and body is nutrition, exercise and general counseling services, but unfortunately, sometimes those things are not enough.

Kudos to you for questioning those in authority, for sure, but please, don't minimize the Columbine experiences (and those who have been helped by medications) by saying that the cause for all bad things is medication. It's just not true.

June 19, 2007 2:11 PM

Eric makes some valid points. Seems to me that the drug companies themselves should be investigated as well because we've all known for quite awhile that they are not on the up and up-they're all about the profit. I find some merit in the fact that a lot of U.S. medical practitioners are beginning to look at Eastern medicine/traditional/natural means of treating mental illnesses-that's great; but, we can't just ignore the fact that some of these drugs DO work for some people. What doesn't work is the blanket approach so many doctors employ.

June 19, 2007 2:13 PM

Every posting on John Travolta that I see on any gossip blog savages him (and Tom Cruise and Scientology generally) for two things: their dislike of psychiatry and their rejection of mood-altering drugs. I'm beginning to understand the hysteria of these bloggers...

June 19, 2007 2:34 PM

John & Tom are just cementing their places in hell, right along side L.Ron. Those two are going to learn lessons the hard way. Karma will BITE them hard!

June 19, 2007 2:43 PM

Jbonz,
I don't see hysteria here. People like John Travolta and Tom Cruise unfortunately have a lot of media access. Those with a lot of media access also have a great deal of global influence. Those with global influence have to be careful of what they say and how they say it.

June 19, 2007 2:47 PM

Oh and also, Jbonz -- I don't know if you know this, but autism IN MILD FORM, can be treated. There are many different useful therapies. If John Travolta did in fact turn his back on his son's condition, when he could have done something to treat it, that's called neglect. I think people have a right to express concern without being called hysterical bloggers.

June 19, 2007 2:54 PM

Now Showing: South Park Tom Cruise won't come out of the closet part two.. John Travolta is in the closet with Tom and they won't come out.. Then Ray J can get all upset and want to join them.. man are these guys feeding Matt and Trey scrpits or what?

Here, here J! I'd tell you that I would have your love child (gay or not) but I'm not really into stretch marks right now.

June 19, 2007 4:09 PM

For the ones that says it's due to lax gun laws:

I tend to hear it most from the island nations that we should just tighten up the laws. Guess what? As opposed to the water barriers you have around your countries, there's thousands of miles of unprotected land border on both the north and south side of this country that other illegal goods get through every day. If guns are also made very hard to get hold of, then only the ones we really don't want having them will get them. And they have some freakin' insane firepower down there in Mexico. You don't want to know what guns they have down there. I don't like guns, and I do think there's no reason for any civilian to have anything other than a real hunting rifle, but you have to look at reality in this case.

In Canada, they have just as easy access to firearms as in America, but they tend to not go nuts quite as often as we do. There's just something deeply disturbed in the American psyche that we try and hide with our large churches and suburban cookie-cutter homes and SUVs and perfect-on-the-outside lives. There's a deep loneliness and despair, a feeling of inadequacy, that hides within many and if they express it publicly, their either called loony or whiny. We're screwed in the head on a mass scale, and yes, too many people do turn to pills to make them happy, all Brave New World style.

I don't believe the pills caused these shootings. The guns were simply the tools used. It's the illness that lies under the surface of this country that was the real reason. But keep pushing it down... keep pushing it down. Maybe if you ignore it long enough, it'll just go away...

June 19, 2007 4:10 PM

Yes, he does hit on guys. I was a massage therapist at the Ritz-Carlton in Laguna Niguel, California. Between 1989 - 1997, I massaged him at least 7 times. The first few times he didn't hit on me, but I did eventually mess around with him after he hit on me during a massage, and the very last time I got naked with him in bed and went all the way. He's gay. No doubt. He's living a double life, a lie. Happy marriage and family my ass. He is FORBIDDEN from receiving massages at the Pebble Beach Spa, and at the Ritz-Carlton only females will give him treatments. It's no secret. The male massage therapists at the Ritz refuse to work on him.

June 19, 2007 4:47 PM

Luiz, that grosses me out (if it's true)! I could care less if he's gay, but how is it that he thinks he can just walk into a massage place and start hitting on random people? Isn't that rather presumptuous and arrogant?

June 20, 2007 7:20 AM

T-bone you answered your own question!
Too nasty to think about...GAHHHH!

If you don't think scientologists are brainwashed and/or crazy, read this:

"Scientolotist Kills his Mother After She Treats his Schizophrenia with Vitamins." That's right. Two scientology "auditors" tried to treat their severely mentally ill son with vitamins and paid a dear price for their stupidity:

http://www.holysmoke.org/cos/scientologist-ordered-treated.htm

Yes. I can verify, Travolta hits on the male massage therapists.
Got 86'd from Pebble Beach Spa a few years ago.

I really think the anti-depressants are dangerous and their side-effects are unpredictable. It is true the psychiatrists are to blame for over using them on kids especially.

Scinetology is the best!! how ever people know nothing about, if they knew they would follow it right away, it made me much more capable and helped me to achive my goals, I recomened you all read one of L. Ron habbard's book and see it your self.

One controversial aspect of Scientology is its belief that souls ("thetans") reincarnate and have lived on other planets before living on Earth. Former members say that details of this supposed remote extraterrestrial past are not revealed until thousands of dollars have been paid to the Church of Scientology. Another controversial belief held among Scientologists is that the practice of psychiatry is destructive, abusive and must be abolished.

Although Scientology is recognized as a bona fide religion in the United States and other countries,it has been widely criticized as a cult that financially defrauds and abuses its members. The Church of Scientology has also been accused of harassing its critics, and has consistently used litigation against them
