PJ Harvey announced plans to release her seventh studio album, tentatively titled White Chalk, on September 24. The new disc reunited her with producers Flood and John Parish, who helped with two of Harvey's finest albums, To Bring You My Love and Is This Desire?
Harvey debuted some of the new material at several music festivals last year ("The Mountain," "When Under Ether," and "Bitter Little Bird.") Fans reported the tracks were more refined than the work on her last album, Uh Huh Her. The songs off White Chalk are said to be softer, piano-oriented pieces, rather than the jagged, guitar-driven feel of her previous work. Don't expect an entirely new sound; long-time collaborators Eric Drew Feldman and Jim White from The Dirty Three worked on material for the new disc.
The singer/songwriter has a few upcoming gigs, most notably a sold-out show at the Manchester International Festival in the UK. For those of us not lucky enough to catch her upcoming European appearances, check out the amazing live DVD from 2006 titled, "Please Leave Quietly." The DVD features an amazing song selection spanning her entire career.
Her upcoming tour dates and the free MP3 of the week are after the jump.
Upcoming tour dates:
14th - Madrid - Summercase Festival
13th - Barcelona - Summercase Festival
7th - Manchester International Festival, Bridgewater Hall - Sold Out

Thank gods! I'm hankering for some new, emaciated, ethnic, British female rock...Amy Winehouse isn't cutting it anymore.

PJ Harvey is not new! She has been around for a while.
