Britney Spears Pisses off the Humane Society

Let's just add them to the list of people who find Britney's behavior disturbing, or at the very least, annoying. Her purchase of a $3,000 Yorkie at a pet store in Beverly Hills over the weekend has the Humane Society distressed. It would appear to the organization that Britney made an impulsive decision to buy the dog, without considering the possibility that her purebred Yorkshire Terrier originated from a puppy mill.

In a press release, the Society's director of outreach for companion animals Stephanie Shain said: "Most dogs sold in pet stores come from puppy mills -- factory-like facilities, churning out purebred and "designer" puppies in large numbers...Every time someone purchases a dog from a pet store, they risk perpetuating the horrendous business of puppy mills."
I wouldn't be at all shocked to find out that she'd also obtained her two sons from a Cabbage Patch. They'll sell those babies to just about anybody.

As a dog lover, I feel bad for that precious puppy. She doesn't need anymore responsibilities added to her life...she can't handle what she has now.

July 17, 2007 9:57 AM

Phuck the Humane Society. I guess it would be better if Britney had gone to Africa and adopted a little black third world dog.

Ride Lo

Yeah give the girl a break, the dog will have a better life with her than in a cage in a shop. She's hardly responsible for the puppy mills.

WTF? So it's better to leave the dog in the store? How is she responsible for puppy mills? I just wish people would leave her the heck alone. Good lord.

"So it's better to leave the dog in the store?" Moi, don't be stupid. Clearly no one (but you) said that.

The Humane Society is speaking out against perpetuating the Puppy Mill. Every time someone buys from a pet store, it sends the message that factory farming puppies is "ok". Clearly none of you have ever seen the inside of a puppy mill.

And maybe people "would leave her alone" once she takes a bath, puts on a decent wig, some respectable clothes and takes care of her children. Dumbass.

Sloppy no talent P.O.S. needs to learn to take care of HERSELF and stop buying dogs as accessories!

July 17, 2007 11:24 AM

how she's responsible for the puppy mills is because she bought a puppy that was most likely produced AT a puppy mill.

she's not SOLELY responsible, no ONE person is, but she's part of the problem.

and yes, she isn't responsible enough to care for the pets (and CHILDREN!) that she already has. she surely doesn't need ANOTHER dog crapping and pissing in her house.

July 17, 2007 11:26 AM

Here's the deal, folks. I do dog rescues. We are trying to get Puppy Mills outlawed in our state. If you could see what's going on at these mills, you would NOT contribute in any way. I have seen dogs come out of those mills unable to use their back legs, because 10 to 15 puppies have been shoved in one small cage and never exercised. The conditions are nothing short of dispicable, yet these breeders continue to breed in the name of profit. WHY? Because people are buying them from ridiculous boutiques and pet stores. Next time you go in a pet store, ask them where they get their pups and ask for proof. There are MILLIONS of dogs without homes in the world. WE DO NOT NEED TO BREED MORE FOR PROFIT! DON'T SUPPORT!!!

July 17, 2007 11:32 AM

I agree that Britney purchased this pup innocently. No one would ever support this if they knew what was truly going on.

Go to http://stoppuppymills.org/

July 17, 2007 11:34 AM

The Humane Society is giving Ms. Spears WAY too much credit in believing she would ever think about anything besides head scarves and Marlboros.

July 17, 2007 11:39 AM

T-bone, god bless you. keep fighting the good fight.

to anyone considering getting a dog, go to your local shelter and get one. Purebreds tend to be a bit wacky anyway, due to inbreeding.

July 17, 2007 11:44 AM

If you want a dog and want to do it in the best way possible, go to the NO KILL animal shelters in your area and purchase one from them. OR, if you absolutely feel the need to have a particular type of breed then go online to that breeds dog rescue site and purchase, for example bassethoundrescue.com. And by the way, mixed breeds are probably some of the smartest and kindest dogs out there. Pure breds can have all sorts of medical issues, if the breeder is a bad one. Granted, there are some okay breeders, but I still wouldn't support. It's usually all about profit.

July 17, 2007 11:48 AM

Look, the girl never claimed to be Angelina - saving the world and all that jazz. Where & what she buys is none of anyone else's damn business. All you pet store nazi's need to give it a rest. HEY, PEOPLE, BUY YOUR PETS FROM WHEREVER THE HELL YOU CHOOSE, QUICK, WHILE IT'S STILL A "FREE" COUNTRY.

Ah, Jesse, it's good to know cold-hearted bitches still have a say in the good ole USA!!

I think the HSUS is merely attempting to capitalize on Britney being a famous irresponsible bimbo to get the Puppy Mill message out there.

I doubt they actually expect to make any difference with Britney herself. If they did, they would not have used words like "perpetuating" and "horrendous", they would have said " It's bad ya'll !"

July 17, 2007 11:56 AM

Thanks for the info T Bone, I knew nothing about puppy mills till now. I personally have a little cat that I found abandoned under a bush when she was about 2 weeks old and I can say, hand on heart, that she has brought joy to my life with her playfulness and little ways.
Who would have thought.

July 17, 2007 12:18 PM

Anyways, for those of you who are decent human beings and want to do the right thing, there are tons of no kill shelters in every state. Why breed when there are millions of dogs and animals out there waiting for homes already?

P.S. You gotta love a person who mentions the word freedom while millions of animals get the shit beat out of them and are abused and neglected for the sake of some stupid FREE human being's profit margin. Freedom MY ASS!

Green cardigan, I think Mills are more of an epidemic here in the US as we are the most "disposable" society out there.

T-Bone! Preach on! All of my pets were "throw-aways". I'm in rescue also and once you see the things that we have seen, you can't "un-see" them. People like saying things like "BUY YOUR PETS FROM WHEREVER THE HELL YOU CHOOSE" will stay blind and dumb to things like this out of weakness.

July 17, 2007 1:32 PM

I agree, Green & Clarisse, animals can change your heart and soul ;)

July 17, 2007 1:38 PM

I am not dumb, weak or a cold-hearted bitch, just a proponent of personal freedom. I just think it's no one's damn business where I or anyone else buys my dogs. Am I not allowed to have a differing opinion from you?? Oh no, we're not ALL THINKING ALIKE!!! Does any of you have any freakin proof whatsoever that Britney's dog came from a puppy mill?? No. And not a single one of you has ever LIVED with Britney and therefore have no clue how she really treats her animals. Also, I guess she's solely responsible for all animal abuse in America, too. Grow up, T Bone, freedom has nothing to do with beating the shit out of animals. Non-sequitor, much??? Next you'll be blaming her for the war in Iraq. Get off her & clean up your own backyards!

July 17, 2007 1:54 PM

Jesse d - I happen to be one of the few who actually sticks up for Britney Spears and I don't recall blaming her for anything other than perhaps ignorance. Maybe you should go back and read the posts. I'm just stating the facts on the connection between pet stores and puppy mills. If, in your freedom, you know ALL about this connection and want to continue using breeders and shopping at pet stores, be my f*ing guest. Oh, and your cute little addition "next you'll be blaming the war in Iraq on Britney" is actually what's considered "non-sequitor", since one has NOTHING to do with the other. Sensationalistic much???

July 17, 2007 1:55 PM

Well, all I can say is, I hope that pup likes cheetos.

Does any of you have any freakin proof whatsoever that Britney's dog came from a puppy mill

==================================

YOU ARE the only one saying that. Someone here should grow up...look in the mirror.

Get over yourself. You are not that clever. Obtuse yes, clever, no.

T-Bone! Well said!!!

Green, ALL dogs likes them some Cheetohs!

July 17, 2007 2:10 PM

"Just stating the facts", huh T Bone?? Hmmm, let's regroup here...."P.S. You gotta love a person who mentions the word freedom while millions of animals get the shit beat out of them and are abused and neglected for the sake of some stupid FREE human being's profit margin. Freedom MY ASS!" How much of that is fact, and how much of it hyperbole?
As for you, Gift Horse, I didn't say YOU PERSONALLY were blaming Britney for puppy mills, but the Humane Society is certainly blaming her for "perpetuating the horrendous business of puppy mills". They're just whoring off of her publicity to further their cause, unjustly in my opinion. I never claimed to be the brainiac here, just to have a differing opinion from the rest of you. Still think it's none of your damn business where she or I buy my dogs from, whether it be a breeder or a pet store or joe schmoe down the block. Oh and BTW my Lab came from the rescue - MY PERSONAL CHOICE. So for those of you making me out to be this monster, shove it up your collective asses. Thanks.

July 17, 2007 2:25 PM

Jesse d - the only possible way you could have THIS MUCH anger over what was said here is if YOU purchased YOUR dog from a breeder or pet store. You're WAY too defensive for it to be anything other than that. You're not fighting for people's personal "freedom" here. You're defending yourself. I don't buy it for one second that you got your dog at a rescue facility.

July 17, 2007 2:32 PM

Oh and Jesse -- YOU are the only one making YOU out to be a monster. If you get this upset because someone comes out here and says "hey, pet stores sell puppy mill pets and puppy mill pets are often neglected and abused" then you have a BIG F*ing problem.

July 17, 2007 2:35 PM

Never said I got her at a rescue facility - she came to me through the foster network.

I don't care what or who you believe or don't believe. This is ridiculous. Don't you think it's time to stop shoving your beliefs off on other people?

Most of the time, I just don't even get involved with the comments on here because you people just carry it too far, but I felt compelled to stop the Blame Britney Shitstorm. My mistake.

July 17, 2007 2:41 PM

Well next time you come out here to stop the Blame Britney Shitstorm", make sure that the person you're going after is actually blaming Britney. I, for one, was not. I looked at this story as an opportunity to tell people about puppy mills, NOT as a ridiculous argument against personal freedom. I'm all for Britney and I'm all for personal freedom.

July 17, 2007 2:49 PM

*sigh* One last time for those of you in the back who weren't paying attention. I did not go after *you*. Check your first P.S. honey.
Moving on...

July 17, 2007 3:08 PM

Anyway in Britney's defense, she may be a bit of a mess, but she seems like a kind hearted girl and I'm sure that doggy will have a good life in the Spear's household.

He's probably lounging in a sunchair as we speak, Marlboro Light in one paw, can of Red Bull in the other barking his head off!

July 17, 2007 3:16 PM

True Green... The dog will definitely be better off with Britney than in a puppy mill or a pet store, I'm sure. Well... I hope ;)

Who knows, maybe Britney indirectly (and unknowingly, of course) enlightened other human beings to the "puppy mill" problem.

I just wonder if the same mysterious fate

awaits this little Yorkie that befell Brit's 3

Chihuahuas, or Brit's Maltese, or Brit's other

yorkie...

These living feeling beings are no more

important to Spears than a Prada bag or Cavalli

pumps.

July 17, 2007 5:00 PM

I love how all these "celebrities" (read: bimbos) are getting tea cup Yorkies now. After they all killed off all of their Chis. A Chihuahua is way sturdier then these tea cup Yorkies. They don't have a fighting chance with these retards.
Go Paris! Make sure it runs in the street.
Cars are no worries. The Crows will get 'em first.
LOVE irresponsible pet owners.

Clarissa, unfortunately, "tea-cup" anything is fragile.

"Caring" breeders have mutated the dog far past anything remotely ethical just for vanity and profit. They know brainless twats like Spears and Hilton will pay 10 x's the normal amount for a "Mini" or "Tea-Cup" version.

July 17, 2007 6:09 PM

Well fuck that I AM blaming Britney. How about that for freedom of speech. Young girls see her buying these dogs in PET STORES and then they want to emulate her. I only hope the parents pay attention. She bought a Chihuahua RIGHT after her divorce. A few months ago. WHERE IS THAT DOG???? Yeah. KFED gave away the other dogs because there was SHIT all over the house and they didn't get along with the kids. AND so this bitch thinks she is funny and buys a Chihuahua. NOW she has Yorkie. THAT SHE TOOK INSIDE A NIGHTCLUB. That is ANIMAL ABUSE. Although I expect no less. I had NO IDEA about puppy mills until this dumb ass ho had to add a third animal to house or hotel wherever she lives. I'm glad I'm aware but I do wish it wasn't at the expense of that poor little Yorkie she just bought. You know, MY KIDS come first in my life and I would NEVER buy a Chihuahua or Yorkie since they don't get along well with children. BUT that is MY life isn't it. We can't all be that smart about decisions we make I guess. She needs to STOP buying dogs and that is just my OPINION. SHe is obviously mentally unbalanced and lacks the motivation and mental capacity to care for another animal. I haven't seen that Chihuahua since the first week she bought and I won't see this Yorkie after this week ever again. SICK!

July 17, 2007 6:19 PM

Yes. I am aware that anything teacup is fragile. They can break something just by sneezing too hard and they need a lot of extra care.

Taking it into a nightclub where it cried all night? Good Job!

Next stop...incense store. Surly their sense of smell can't be that much better than ours.

July 18, 2007 3:57 PM

At least Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie take excellent care of their animals. They are true animal lovers...

People need to get educated about the animals they bring home. Too many are simply ignorant and do what Britney Spears is doing. Getting this new dog... maybe Britney is preparing for the day K-Fed takes the two boys away.

July 20, 2007 8:08 PM

I'll have to side with Jesse on this one, she is right, it is my own damn right to buy or not buy my animal from where ever I want, the authorities should shut these places down if it is such a problem, don't hate the buyer, hate the industry, duh, but as for the freedom comments, dunno about yours but my constitution say "all men are created equal" not all animals are created equal. If it is all animals then why are we slitting the throats of hundreds of cattle to feed your faces and do not hear a peep out of ya? Why are you not bitching about all the grocery stores for having meat products? I will have to say, at least some of the animals in these mills survive, all the cattle die. I agree that these mills suck but you will see me sleep well tonight and every night, and yes, I am a cold hearted dick, oh well, that is my freedom to be too. It is not my family then it is not my concern but you are damn right, someone is mean to my dog I'll kick their ass where they stand without hesitation. You go Britney, even though your life is spiralling in every direction, buy what you want and where ya want, it is your right to do so. Honestly, I could care less what happens to the dog now either, no one is bitching about all of the farmers that simply shoot dogs in the back of the head because they can't afford them anymore and they are to sorry to have them fixed to stop the breeding and that goes on a hell of a lot more than a stupid mill!
