Could a broken heel have had something to do with the sluggish performance?

I noticed that on another website and just pointed that out to a friend of ine. Britney usually performs in flats. I thought the shoes were the culprit.

Heels sometimes bend even when your walking. It's still not an excuse. There were moments where she was standing there, and only the top half of her body was moving. She didn't bring it tonight. What ever excuse she wants to bring, the shoes, Sarah Silverman, MTV, it's all excuses. She has no one or nothing to blame but herself. Next time instead of partying all night. Do a full dress rehersal.

I agree with Nancy, the heels were not the culprit. Instead it was a sad excuse for a performer who has not yet realized that fame is fleeting and she has now squandered what little sympathy most of us had for her. Before she wastes anymore of our time she had best put a little more time and effort into honing her "talent."

that's not a broken heel
it's a kickstand

Screw that. Beyonce tumbled down a flight of stairs and kept going. A broken heel doesn't stop a true performer, which was Britney's only real talent anyway. If she got flummoxed by a broken heel, then she needs to go back to square one. The show must go on, remember?

Excuses, excuses.

She could have stripped her boots off in the spirit of her strip tease.

I must say her performance wasn't ground-breaking but it wasn't bad. I enjoyed it! She looked pretty good too but I think she could have worn something better besides a bra and underpants with stiletto boots. The songs was awesome though! She's just getting started, she'll get better but probably never as good as she was a few years ago. All the best to her though! I'm still a Britney fan!

I agree with james, people are really taking their negative critisism way over the top, the performace was good and definitely a hell of a lot better than most of those haters could do!

That's what you get when you gorge yourself on Cheetos and Red bull. The heels give out underneath you.

Yeah people are making it seem so much worse than it actually was. If it had been any other person they would have thought it was good. Saying that she wasn't nearly as good as she once was.

I mean as an example that Perez guy wrote a big hate letter to her telling her "f*ck you!' a whole bunch of times, all that because she didn't dance as well as that fat man wanted?

As for the body, yeah the clothes were a little small but she had a baby less than a year ago not bad for that!

I thought also thought her performance was not that bad, nothing special but not as bad as the press is making it out to be. Don't you think it's kind of pathetic that so many people were just foaming at the mouth waiting for her to fail. Guess what, no matter how messed up her life has been lately...she tried. She worked hard and focused and yeah she is not the Britanny of old but she tried. She has been through hell ( yes much of her own making) the last couple of years. I see a 25 year old who has made plenty of mistakes who lives under a microscope. How about encouraging her to do better instead of criticizing her for even trying? By the way I cringed when that Silverman chick starting talking about Britanny's kids. How low is too low?

Usually I like Sarah Silverman, but the truth is that she failed as miserably as Brit. No one laughed at her, and her dialogue was as awkward as Brit's performance. So she should shut it.

How can you people actually say that was good?! That was a pathetic excuse for what's normally an over the top production from MTV. Do any of you remember her past performances? Helloooooooo, the boa constrictor, Madonna? Those were good if not amazing. And no, I don't think if this was anyone else people would have been saying that was anywhere near a GOOD performance. She didn't even move! She looked pissed off and on another planet. She should have just hired an elephant to do that it probably could have done a better job.

on a side note, how bad do you think it felt for Britters to know Justin was out there watching and then pull off a KILLER finale? ZING!

I also didn't think it was that bad. Nothing to rave about, but not terrible. She just kind of looked like a woman who has thrown in the towel.

I think her hearing about what that bore Sarah Silverman had to say in rehearsals threw Britney off. Its one thing to talk about her but it probably hurt a lot more when its about her kids. I think she did alright. The rest of the show was the typical same old thing no real variety to it. And why oh why did Justin T. win??? What is it he exactly does other than trying to be someone that he's not?

the heels? uh, no...someone mentioned beyonce...doesn't even have to be a professional to make a comparison.

a friend of mine did a gymnastics routine for a competition WITH A BROKEN FOOT. back flips, handsprings, the whole nine...WITH A BROKEN FOOT. and she was 13. so any excuse of "my shoe heel was broken" is CRAP.

as far as britney performing in flats...brit doesn't even wear flats when pregnant or carrying her baby. she wears boots with heels with SUNDRESSES. usually performs in flats? on some other planet, maybe.

and almost a year is PLENTY of time for a 25-year old to lose the baby weight. women older than her have managed to lose the weight in a couple of months. it's all about discipline, of which brit doesn't have much.

LindaB, the problem is not that people aren't encouraging her. the problem is that the people who DO are cut out of her life. like her own mother.

bottom line is that she's out of shape and didn't rehearse enough.

This performance is no better or worse than her HOB shows. Her fans set up the expectations that those were the practice ones and she'd "bring it" at the VMA's. Well she didn't. I knew it was gonna be bad during the opening and her horrible weave was on display. She should have put more energy into her "performance" than she put in picking out that costume and her weave.

She's been done for a while. No more excuses. The dancers were better than her. It's time to pick a new princess of pop. This woman's reign is over.

The only person Britney has to blame for that lackluster performance is herself. If the heal was a problem, she should have taken them off. If she overheard Sara Silverman rehearsing comments about her children, as rumors suggest was the reason for her running off the stage, she should have sucked it up or backed out of the show before it started. The lip syncing was horrible; there aren't any excuses I can even think of for that.

She partied for three full days before the show, she didn't rehearse like a person hoping for a comeback would. The hair was bad; the Lee Press On Nails were chipped, and she had to employ overweight dancers to hide her Taco Bell problem.

The best thing I can say about this performance is 'at least the song was short.'

Ha! Ha! Broken heel?! Oh, PUHLEEESE!!! If any of you are old enough, do you remember figure skater Tonya Harding's "Broken skate blade" excuse?! Yeah, she's the one who hired those goons to break Nancy Kerrigan's knee caps! Tonya is just like Brit...an atention whore, who just doesn't know when to QUIT!

Britney is NO BETTER than Tonya Harding (class, talent, physique, personality, etc.), and look where Tonya is now! I give her another year before she joins Anna Nicole Smith...another "winner."

As a musician and performer I was offended by that performance last night. I've seen 8th graders do better lip syncs than that. There are so many more talented people in the world who will never get the chance to do their thing upon that stage, people that CAN actually sing live!!! Britney's time is done. She would be smart to get herself in college and pursue something else in life. She'll never be what she once was.

When I read some of the hateful things people say about her I can't help but see a resentful person that is jealous that they never made anything of their life, or they're jealous that she's pretty.

No matter how much you insult her it won't make you pretty, no matter how much you hate her it won't make your dreams come true.

And say what you want about being shallow but every ugly girl wants to be pretty, they know it, we know it and they will deny till they die.

Hey, we all love success, what we root for is failure, everyone elses. And I admit I have been waiting for this useless teen queen and others start to fall. Too bad their whole entourage (mommy, daddy, sister, etc)do not go down with them.

In the end, you can be a star and live privately a la John Cusack and just do your friggin job or you can be like this chick and suffer when it is not all roses. Fame is a bitch, you were never told that huh Britney?

September 10, 2007 1:55 PM

for those of you saying her performance wasn't that bad, just stop. you're trippin' - seriously.
got eyes?

this was her chance to do something fabulous & shame all of her critics and she fucked it up. period. she was the OPENING ACT FOR THE VMAS. she couldn't come up with something more inventive & interesting?

Andie, you're a complete moron.

First of all, this incompetent wreck is not pretty. I can't see anyone but stupid fans wanting to be like her.

I assure you none of the people who criticize her remotely want to be like her. And justifiedly so. Imagine that a doctor, pilot, taxi driver, cook ... would be as incompetent in doing their job as she is.

Secondly, you assume it's all about the looks. She's supposedly pretty - and that supposedly makes her also a good singer, dancer, performer? How shallow is that!

Last but not least, by saying that all the critics are not pretty but want to be pretty - you are implying that it's only "ugly" people who criticize. How lame. It seems it's you who wants to be pretty, that's why you make all the other people (who do not think like you) ugly.

September 10, 2007 2:19 PM

Her performance was bad. Le'ts remember who it was. Britney rose to where she is (or was a few years ago) based on her ability to perform. She's a fantastic dancer. Did she show that last night? Did she? No. Not even close. Instead she paced back and forth, waved her arms a bit, lip-synched poorly and seemed to be trying to catch her breath or remember where she is or both.

Anyone, and I mean anyone could have done a better job. Why? They would have tried. She didn't. I watched it because I was hoping she'd blow me away, I miss her energetic dancing and her stage presence. She didn't have that at all.

I will say, I thought she looked good. Except the weave.

September 10, 2007 2:27 PM

Oh Andie, you're the reason why 12 year olds shouldn't be allowed to post. Get off the computer before mom gets home from picking up your brother from pee wee practice. And yes, we all wish we were pretty like Brit Brit. That's why we're being so mean. yes, you've found us out.

My Lawd, you are dumb, child!!!!

So some are critizing Britney Spears' body and yet nobody says boo about Alicia Keys stuffed into that outfit and looking like a weird shit? Yuk!

MTV is about as played out and fake as it gets. Does anyone expect anything edgy/clever/new anymore? Blah. Britney fit right in.

Oh, and I wouldn't be surpized if MTV set her up. People are talking about the show and will be for a while....

Right.. no one says anything about Alicia Keys.. b/c although u don't see it on her videos... that's her natural weight. She's not a small girl.. but hell when you have talent and you can bring the house down like she can... who cares?!?! Aretha Franklin & Patti Labelle are big girls, too.. but they are awesome singers. Not a modeling competition people... it's about the music, folks.

As for the heel... I hauled my ass up and down 5 levels of a dance club at an after party around Christmas in one stiletto heel... and made sure that I hit the dance floor in between. And I was drunk! Not looking for an award... just simply stating that rehearsed simple choreographed dance moves should be able to be done with or without the heel.

I feel for the girl... she looks a bit medicated... and definitely had the "deer in headlights" look... but if you're not ready, you shouldn't go on... and furthermore, if someone insults your kids in their attempt at a comedic monologue... NOW is the time to show your brazen "we're country" ignorance and go out there and kick her ass. Now THAT would have been entertainment... not last night's confuddled mass of stages, parties, and confused celebutantes!

Vi I really doubt that doctors are hanging around a gossip site fighting over Britney's talent or lack there of.

Explain to me why you're actually so worked up over this girl's poor performance. I'm stupid, really? You're putting so much energy into hating this young girl, and for what? To convince someone on a fucking gossip site that you're smart or worthwhile cause you hate some stupid kid?

This girl is obviously mentally ill and you come here just to bash her. You're right only a smart intelligent thoughtful person would do that, not some girl that never grew out of adolescence and can't do anything but bitch and whine about the cool girls. If I'm 12 then you're an asshole and a pretty shitty human being.

shotfake - I'm with you. Every female on that stage, last night, looked quite thick. IN FACT, everyone from Alicia Keys to Beyonce looked bigger than Britney. And NO ONE seemed to be wearing clothing (from what I saw). SO yeah - Brit's performance sucked, but she wasn't the only one who sucked. That entire show was a big, fat, trashy joke. MTV ought to be ashamed of itself. Britney is the scapegoat here, and she was set up to be just that. MTV producers and directors are 100% to blame for this production failure!

I've broken a heel during a performance before and you know what I did? i took those shoes off and kept dancing. that's what a talented performer does... improvise!

September 10, 2007 7:53 PM

Andie, you might not be a 12 year old but you sure as hell have the mental capacity of one. And I may be a shitty human being but you're still a moronic lil twat. Damn, life is cruel. Grow up honey. Brit is fodder. She does most of this shit to herself. Now you, step away from the computer hon, you've had enough for one day. And yes, every time there is a posting on Shitney, I'll be there to yank your chain. Now here's a quarter, go play in traffic.

It wasn't a good performance but so many people are turning it into a much bigger deal than it was. The most people did was hope that it would be good, and well it wasn't good but it wasn't that awful. It's not like she just left the stage and said f you to everyone. She at least tried, mind you in a confused and scared kind of way.

A live performance is hard be it acting or singing (granted she didn't sing but she never does). The amount of pressure on her is ridiculous and so many people said so many mean things and were watching, waiting for her to fail. I don't think I would be able to do that either especially if I knew how many people were out there waiting for me to fail.

Imagine if everywhere you went bad hair day and all you had people watching you, saying lots of mean things about you no matter what you did.

Yeah she's rich and she's really f*cked up, but that's what (almost) everyone does in their twenties, you can't just flip a switch and be perfect because you're being watched non stop, or because you have lots of money. She hasn't sunk nearly as low as some other "stars", she hasn't been drinking and driving or beating people up (mind you I said people not cars) and she hasn't attacked the paparazzi.

I feel bad for her, all these people say that she brought it on herself, but it's too easy to judge someone you don't know or even like. People don't have enough compassion anymore for their fellow man.

I also don't understand why sticking up for someone who is obviously messed up and in pain makes them a "moronic lil twat" or a 12 year old. It's no lie that people resent others that have what they want, so it does make sense that people would attack Britney for no other reasons than low self confidence. Obviously it's not true for everyone, but it is a fair assumption.

As for the ugly part (I couldn't help reading it all including the responses) it's true that people who come around only to say hateful things about people they've never even met are ugly, on the outside at the very least.

Ok I wrote way way too much, peace!

Jen#2-

I hate Britney. i talk trash about her all the time, I admit it, and i am not ashamed of it. If that makes me "ugly", then so be it. I am OK with being ugly on the inside, but guess what? I am not ugly on the outside, no matter how much you want to tell yourself that all the "h8rz" are. But also, I am MORE than just looks, I actually made a point to cultivate intelligence, class, self-respect, and talent. I do not have to rely on my looks or "niceness" to get by. My mother had a saying, and I live by it: "Nice people are too stupid to be mean". Being mean will take you a HELL of a lot further than phony-ass sunshine, butterflies, and rainbows. I'd rather be who I am....a mean bitch, than a phony ass-kissing hypocrite that says nice things to someone's face and talks trash about them behind their backs. I would say every hateful thing I say on here to Shitney's fat, ugly, bloated, drugged-out face. See, I live in the REAL WORLD, not in your little fantasyland where everyone kisses everyone else's ass. And I like it like this....I'd rather speak the truth and speak my mind, no matter how horrible some prissy little snot like you thinks it is, than be forced to parrot mealy-mouthed garbage like all you Brit fantards. Besides, you are doing EXACTLY what you are bitching about...you're saying "How can you judge someone you don't even KNOW", and then judging the haters by calling them ugly. See what I mean about hypocrisy, because you've got it in SPADES. How does it feel to be called out on it?

September 11, 2007 10:53 AM

What you said to Jen#2:
"Nice people are too stupid to be mean"????

Oh my God your MOTHER taught you that??? No wonder the apple doesn't fall far from the tree! Your hatred and anger is spilling all over the place! So much so that I wonder if you even like yourself. I don't know which religion you subscribe to, but you better check yourself, because you're going to be answering one day to something above and beyond yourself and YOUR MOTHER. Nice people simply have control of their emotions. You don't have any. Anger issues much??
