I was reading this article in Page Six about how George Clooney came into NYC hot spot, Bungalow 8, the other night, laughing and joking with his friends. I'm honestly not even sure what happened, but the little article makes it sound like the newsworthiness of the incident was based solely on the fact that George and his friends were having a good time. I'm so confused--is it really just an observation of the fact that he's a pretty happy-go-lucky guy, or is there something more subtle in this that I'm missing? Here's the exactly quote:
A spy at Bungalow 8 the other night listened as "his friends were openly discussing what they had been doing before coming to the club. After they came in, George was laughing the whole night and kidding around with the ladies. A really hot girl jokingly slapped him, and he laughed hysterically. Finally his security was like, 'George, it's time to go.' "Was it George and his friends openly discussing something, or the spy and his friends? Sometimes gossip is a riddle, my friends. A riddle, wrapped in a bacon, dipped in chocolate.

"A riddle, wrapped in a bacon, dipped in chocolate." I laughed out loud so loud people were staring at me. Niiice!
Let's face it The Clooney could be biting the heads off chickens, and the story would read, "laughed really hard with his friends, while women were fighting gladiator style to stand near him". It's always the same. Excellent publicity machina!
Although your observation about The Post, and it's clear and insightful writing is spot on.

Does anyone else think that its kinda creepy that grizzled old George is still hitting the nite spots? Come on dude, what are you? Like 100 and still hitting the bars?
Jinxy McDeath says:
Its, not it's. Ha!

why does his age matter? idiot.

What you're missing is that his new big love, the cocktail waitress that is being paraded for photo opportunities every other day, even on film sets*, was not there with him. Instead it seems he's on the lookout for a replacement already, or the whole new girlfriend thing is a) a sham, b) a business contract, or c) all of the above and most certainly not d) a love story.
* Who has ever heard of people taking their significant others along with them to work, so s/he can be paraded round in front of cameras?

i think the implication is he was on something to make himself giddy and laugh-ey
