Ok, God help me, I googled them. The site above gives a list of the celebrities who made the largest public donations to charities in 2006. Oprah Winfrey is way out front. Brang (joint) are No.12 on the list donating 2,415,000 to their various charities.

You can't dispute their generosity but I don't think its too far off the mark to call them 'smug'. There is definitely a element of preening in everything they do. Tiger Woods for example, donated $9,500,000 to his various charities . Do you ever hear a peep out of him? No.

Their "gifts" are tax write-offs so it's really the American people who are making these "contributions" and NOT these self absorbed, bloated ticks.

I wish some HUGE star would take on the cause of child sexual abuse. I work in the mental health field and I'll tell you what...the sh*t that I see often stems from this very thing. Someone needs to spend their millions on this horrifying piece of society!

In small ways some have, T-Bone by sharing their own experiences. It remains a pretty taboo subject. I used to work with EI/MI children and I have to admit, it was a struggle to read the case histories to formulate Tx plans for them. It took everything in me to contain my hostility toward the abusers whom I had to meet with and occasionally send the child back home with...the vicious cycle that stems from child abuse, to this day amazes me and it will continue until, as you pointed out, it becomes an open subject in society. But, you make a good point as there certainly is a tremendous need for funding, programs, education...

Jolie can't keep her kids in ONE school. Maddox is 6? and has been to countless schools across the globe.

This alone should make it IMPOSSIBLE to adopt MORE kids. These adoption agencies need to red flag her and not give her anymore kids. Those kids are going to end up messed up and stupid.

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt get too much publicity and attention for their charitable work. Long before Angelina grew up and moved on from her wild child phase, regular people all over the world have been doing charitable and volunteer service (without making millions of dollars). While it is nice that these multi-millionaires can sacrifice a little time and some money, the regular, every day people (who dont have fancy clothes and money to spare) who commit their lives to service, whether it be through Doctors without Borders, PeaceCorps, are the people that deserve attention.

It is a shame that the media can only bring attention to humanitarian efforts only after superifical celebrities make it their issue.

And the fact that Angelina only "worries about things, like family," doesnt make her a saint, or extra-ordinary. That is the way it should be. Yes, other people also worry and care about their families.

But you know what, you're totally right, those three children they adopted definitely have FAR worse lives now than they would have had in orphanages in third world countries.

And Ellie, so what you're saying is no one should donate money because they're obviously only doing it for greedy reasons. You know, they might save paying 40% of that donation in taxes. This is just my opinion, but I think a child who only has soup to eat every day and lives in a tiny hut is better off than a child who has been sexually abused. They at least know that someone tried to love and care for them.

I think what most people are saying, Angietothemax, is that they don't really like Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt. They seem to appreciate their charity-giving and the fact that they've adopted children from orphanages, but they question their motivation and sincerity (and the fact that those kids have zero stability). I'm all for them giving away their millions -- believe me. Any kind of giving is better than no giving at all. But their past behaviors have caught up with them, and the general public has a hard time forgiving and forgetting. Maybe I'm wrong - I don't know.

The average American give 3.5% of their income to charity. Sure, Mange and Brad give just under .5% more, but when you consider the disposable income they they have vs the average person, they really aren't doing anything so over the top and certainly not the 1/3 that Mangelina claimed she was giving.

And, finally, my take on "stability" is that a child who wakes up every morning and goes to bed every night in the same place where his parents are is a secure child and that makes that child stable and happy. She is just a pawn when someone wants attention for some organization. She said recently that she wanted to up her work, please. She is just a name to get attention that is all and people use her when they want that attnetion. I have a sister and a BIL both very, very high up in Washington and they talk about how certain celebs think that they are all big with their political dealings when what they really are is a joke and that is what basically all the people in Washington and around the world truely think. This isn't so about all of them but for most. And AJ is one of them. It is mainly b/c of how she supposedly has changed in the recent few years so drastically but also b/c she acts so erratic and makes little sense alot of the time while there. I think that she may mean well but I can totally see where the people who have spent their lives educating themselves and working would look at someone (celebs) and see them come into DC and just decide to start spewing about certain things and how it would irritate them and be hard to take them seriously.

I have read here and there over the years all kinds of contributions and efforts made by each of these people. When I read the UN site it says that she has also contributed generously to UN projects for many years.

I have been involved in humanitarian work for over 30 years and no one I know similarly involved spends time questioning the motives of those who pitch in and help. That's a fool's game. They certainly wouldn't spend any time making such vicious comments about people who want to help and actually do help. Ms. Jolie is known and respected in Washington, D.C., among those in government, the corporate and nonprofit worlds. If you are really interested in her history of giving and humanitarian work then go look it up.

Jolie is a JOKE said: Actually the school that Maddox is enrolled in (The Lycee Francais) is an international school with the exact same curriculum at each school. Therefore, when they go to another country, Maddox can continue his studies and be on the exact same page as the rest of the kids in his class. The curriculum is English, French, and then in Grade 3 they start Mandarin as well. Add on the Cambodian that Maddox is learning and you have yourself a first class international citizen.

Jolie is a phoney. She wants to believe she's some kind of savior. She travels to other countries as a goodwill ambassador...she see's the poor, the oppressed, the hungry and the sick. Then she comes back to the US and walks around with a purse worth thousands of dollars! And don't forget the money she spends on dermatologists, and facialists. She gets too much sun on her travels, all she has to do is drop a few thousand to have laser treatments. Can the people in the countries she visits do the same? Her children are dressed in expensive clothing (that they'll end up growing out of). Big deal, so she gives her money to charity. She makes sure we all know about it, and she also writes it off on her income tax. There are others that give to charity, giving what little they have...including giving their time (most of us have to work to survive). Because she can give more, monetarily, and time-wise (she has her own plane), does that make her better? No. The sacrifice of giving to charity by someone barely making it,means more than someone like Jolie giving thousands or even millions of dollars.

To me, she's dirty. There's no sincerity. The truth will come out as it always does. What she does is for herself...be it to ease her conscience, or to gain publicity. The public believes hollywood because they worship these people. It shows how shallow we are, and how sorely lacking we are as human beings.

AJ and Pitt are rich because the public made them that way. It's sickening how people like her are worshipped, and for what? Keep making them rich and watching their movies...what will you gain? They don't give a crap about you. You lose the money you could have used to buy groceries or give to a charity you support.

Aside from the millions she has made from fantastic films, she has taken time to save some kids, gave a few children a fantastic brand new lives, donated alot of money to needy charities and still managed to remain one of the most beautiful woman to this date.

I have to agree that many of the negatives remarks seem to be generated from jealousy. I neither adore nor abore the Jolie-Pitts. Yes, They are wealthy. They are successful. They are not ugly. And they are not perfect. It's all okay with me. Why not with some of you?

When you donate any of your time/money/publicity for a worthy cause it helps. Nobody is saying that makes you perfect. Bottom line is it helps other people.

So, are you saying that when those of a higher standard of living give to those who are in need, the giving is worthless unless the needy live a lavish lifestyle? When you donate to the homeless, is it an empty gesture because the displaced are not able to live in a mansion? You give canned goods to the hungry, but it doesn't count because it isn't champagne and cavier?

Do you donate to the needy? If you do, do you require that you lower your own standard-of-living to those that you are trying to help? Or do you continue with your quality of life, feel fortunate, and keep on giving?

id just like to say that as a child i got good grades..then we moved; i didnt do so well in school. we moved a lot more times, including overseas; i got teased for having a different accent, etc..i have to say 1st hand it IS detrimental to a childs education. i also witnessed it happen to my niece, unfortunately..its true children need stability. its like pulling up a seedling repeatedly, its not going to do well =/
