At least that's how Denzel Washington remembers it. Washington who co-stars with Russell Crowe in "American Gangster" also starred with Crowe in the 1995 sci-fi thriller, "Virtuosity." During the audition for the film, things got a little intense.
"We had a cyclone wire fence between us and this thing just sort of dances in the wind, goes through the hole and goes straight on Denzel's lip," Crowe explained. That "thing" was a tiny bit of spit!
"When the director says, 'Cut,' he goes, 'I love the taste of warm saliva in the morning,'" Crowe recounted of Washington's brush off.
The veteran actor still shrugs the moment off.
"He was great, man," Washington laughed. "I mean, he (did it) by accident, he didn't spit at me. His career would have gone in a different direction if he spit at me."
"American Gangster" is in theaters on November 2, 2007.

"His career would have gone in a different direction..." Wow-that's a heck of a statement coming from a d list "star". How in the hell could Denzel hurt Russel's career?
Katie says:
Denzel has never been a d list star!!! He is so A list he gets to be very picky and choosy about what roles he takes, and he does it with more class than what people are calling A listers today.
