Here's the midget who can cut her toes off from "Heroes" saving some dolphins. She's really getting into it, huh? Those look like real tears. And any girl who will risk an unflattering wetsuit for marine life must have a huge golden heart. Hayden Panettiere went to Japan to save some dolphins. Honey, they're gonna end up in the nets that bring me my delicious tuna fish anyway. Why bother? So they're as smart as human and can probably outwit me (that isn't hard). Blah blah blah planet earth is beautiful. Can't you just stick to the show and dump the annoying guy who can fly?
Hayden Panettiere attempted to play real-life hero, teaming with the Save Japan Dolphins coalition in trying to disrupt the annual slaughter of dolphins by Japanese fisherman, who kill an estimated 23,000 of the sea creatures each year. The 18-year-old Heroes star recently joined activists from the U.S. and Australia in paddling out on surfboards to try and reach a pod of dolphins before it was driven into a nearby cove and massacred.
Apparently, there was a stand off with a Japanese fishing boat. Dude, she could have gotten sucked into one of the rotors! I would write more about this but I need to pick up that jacket made from dolphins I ordered. It's so shiny and soft!

You're a jerk....
sammy says:
this goes beyond your usual sense of humor. you need to grow a heart and look outside of this easy, numbing celebrity gossip world. there are some things that are really important and have a devastating impact on the world as a whole, and your jokes about this situation are cheap. I'm embarrassed for you.
Sarah says:
I hate to admit it, but I sorta agree with the first comments. I used to love your sense of humor, J.! But lately, your jokes have been changing your image from "amusing cynic" into "angry with no boundaries".
PepperGirl says:
I have to agree with the first two posters. Your comments were not funny, witty or amusing in the least. Rather, they were callously indifferent. Bravo to Hayden for putting herself out there for something she obviously believes in.
Mr. T says:
I do see humor in this. Obviously she doesn't understand Japan or the Japanese. Japan is a sea nation and has been harvesting the sea for as long as they've been on the islands. Don't screw with the Japanese about their sea-food. They are serious about it. And don't think they are bothered by what other people think about it, they aren't.
I'll have some sushi for J next time I'm over there.
Jesse D says:
Spot ON Mr T.
Wahhh the bleeding hearts are once again attempting to force their opinions on the rest of the world. It all tasted like chicken to me. Would that be Chicken of the Sea? LOL
D says:
J that was one lame, ugly post. Not funny.
The depletion and contamination of marine resources is a real issue. Not a joke.
The mercury from all that tuna must be getting to your head.
cry-baby says:
sniff sniff....and after he put it up my butt....I liked it. But I didn't want him to stop.
sniff.. sniff....then he ate my chitlins...
and now I feel so dirty....
stolidog says:
yup, not particularly funny.
every year in japan, fishermen force entire pods of dolphins into shallow bays where they beat them to death with clubs and stab them with bayonettes. The waters run red with blood for days.
It's estimated that each year, Japan kilss 200,000 to 300,000 dolphins in this manner, over the course of 2 weeks.
Apparently, you can hear the screams of the dolphins for miles.
At least she did something.
R says:
SO WHAT THEY BEAT and EAT THE DOLPHINS!!!!!
They are just ~FISH~ w/ a cute smile!
How is that any different that herding 10,000 cows a day into slaughter houses?
Where do all those chicken nuggets come from?
OR bacon.....or your turkey on thanksgiving?
Humans eat meat! Some eat dogs, some cows (which some people thing are holy), some chickens.
Being at the top of the food chain gives you that option!
As for me....I'd rather have my tuna w/ a little dolphin in it...tastes better that way...
cry-baby liberals
jimi says:
No kidding. We only care cause the Dolphins are cute. Just like the Dennis Leary routine: "What about the Tuna? Well, they're ugly. Who cares?" How do you think hunting Deer here looks to other countries? Japan has been doing this for eons. Seems to me 1, there are a boat load (pun intended) of these dolphins, and 2 they're obviously not THAT smart or they wouldn't swim to this area.
Zekers says:
Man, I don't know what to say to your post J., sensitive subject to be so harsh...
It's great that this young lady cares and gets involved in something other than partying.
Last time I knew, cows, chickens and pigs were raised specifically for food, how does this compare to dolphins in the ocean?
What does this have to do with political affiliations...somehow I think there may be a Republican or two out there who feels that dolphin slaughter is wrong.
Lastly, well said stolidog.
R says:
so Zekers!!!
Do think anyone would feel different if the dolphins were raised in specifically for food?
I doubt it!
Same deal with seals...What if they were bred and raised for their pelts? People would still complain.
It's that cute factor.
Also the fact that people don't see where their hamburgers come from.
People are so sheltered they haven't a clue of what real issues are.
~Let's go take food from Japanese peoples mouths~ But we won't think about starving people in the US.
Let's complain about baby seals in Norway, but forget about human rights voilations in other countries.
Get a clue!
queencrone says:
These pictures remind me of a time long ago.
I was doing some gardening, and one of my daughters was my little helper. We were picking
the snails off the plants and putting them in a bucket. When I was finished, I grabbed the bucket to kill the snails. Well, my little daughter was MORTIFIED! She started to cry and carry on, I couldn't believe it. Her face looked just like these pictures of Hayden.
queencrone says:
No, I didn't kill the snails that day. She grew kinda hysterical so we put them back in their homes. (in my plants! argh!)
stolidog says:
"R", you are apparently too stupidly, rabidly conservative to know about it, but there are movements all over the world to better the lives of said cows, chickens and pigs. You apparently don't know that only through years of protest have american farmers finally bent to the will of the majority of americans and started free range chickens, pen free pigs, grass fed cows, etc.
If you are so complacent that you are content to wiz on over to Jack in the Box and gorge yourself on the sweeping of the slaughterhouse floor, that's your problem. Just shut your pie hole, or better yet shove it full of processes chicken mcnuggets until you burst, but there are people out there protesting, making conscious purchasing decisions AND MAKING A DIFFERENCE, that you are probably reaping the benefits of and you don't even know it.
you're pathetic.
R says:
FYI:
I own 3 beef cows...50+ chickens...butchered 2 pigs in the past month. Sold 10 turkeys in the past few weeks
I'm pretty sure I can speak for the American farmer better than you.
because of the ethanol craze for cars....once again the American farmer is taking it in the A$$.
Federally regulated corn prices have gone up for farmer....BUT for ethanol fuel uses...it's cut to almost nothing!
And what do the cause crazy people who are trying to make a difference do...run off with wads of money and attack some one elses food source. Someone else livelyhood.
These causes are all fun and games until it affects you!
R says:
I love that....there are "movements all over the world".
AKA....I want a cheap hamburger....but I want the cow to know it was loved!
All the population knows about the welfare of farm animals is what the liberal media tells them.
Unless you've grown up and/or now work on a farm ... YOU ARE NOT QUALIFIED TO COMMENT!
Those people who club the dolphins that is their job!
People like me who raise animals to feed my family and other families understand that.
Spoiled little children...and city folks are clueless!
stolidog says:
"R", it was pretty clear you were an American farmer. Your complete disregard for what your customer wants and your apparent complete disregard for an animals well being is clearly indicative of what is wrong with American farming today.
American farmers are the only people on the planet vigorously fighting quality of life improvements for animals, the organic movement, the no pesticide or hormone movement, and the genetic crop movement. Nobody except American farmers want Americans to eat beef with more antibiotics in them than the average human or chickens pumped up with so many hormones they can't stand. We don't want our pigs brought up in pens where they can't eve turn around. We don't want baby cows stuffed into little black boxes with no light until their ready to be made into veal. We don't want this shit, but, you farmers, you just fight every regulation comind down the pike so that you can keep feeding your fellow Americans this Frankenfood.
Disgusting.
Sarah says:
I agree Zekers... this doesn't really seem like a political issue. I'm a republican, but that doesn't mean I'm in support of inhumane animal slaughtering methods and I was pretty disgusted by the jokes. My issue lies more in the heartless banter by the author of this article. Regardless of political affiliation, I don't think there's a soul out there that would WANT to see an animal die in a cruel fashion just for food. I eat meat, so I'm sure some of you will have a field day with this comment and call me a hypocrite, but I'd much rather eat a hamburger knowing the cow died in a humane fashion. Not getting clubbed to death like a dolphin does.
Zekers says:

Perhaps if you would try to talk TO people rather than AT them/down to them your points would be heard "R"
Name-calling and insulting folks isn't going to help your cause at all, it just detracts from your point. I'm sure you do have some insights that many who don't farm don't know but you aren't going to be heard if you try to strong-arm people with your opinions as though yours are the final word. Really, please read some of the quotes I pulled from your comments...Grandma always said you can catch more flies with honey than vinegar...
Zekers says:
Sarah, I appreciate your candor...
mc44 says:
Geez people. It's a gossip blog, it's snarky. He didn't ask us to mobilize and start taking down the dolphins. So tired of this PC crap. Granted, the way it's done is bad. How do you think we lost the unicorn? Where were you then??
T-Bone says:
Listen up, idiots! Human beings weren't the only entities created in the world. Whether you're into creationism or evolution, liberal or conservative, one fact remains the same -- all living things are here and therefore deserve respect! Plants and animals aren't ours to beat, mutilate or destroy! Treat them all with respect, lest they turn on you and one day destroy YOU (which is exactly what's going to happen, and HUMANS deserve it). Change your ways, before it's too late!
stolidog says:
Amen.
Hey Cupcake says:
Can some of you take this energy and do something with it? Hiding behind your aliases and throwing names at each other really is not impressive.
stolidog says:
some of us can do both, cupcake.
silvarga says:
I'm not even touching those last 22 posts...
Ahem, but addressing the first 4 posts I have to say that I agree wholeheartedly. It's been a weird past few weeks of reading the first 3 sentences of similar posts and going "Oh! Umm... OK." and then scrolling past the rest.
No offense but this whole pseudo-Dlisted thing is not a good color on you. You're not adding in the right kind of "funny" to properly leverage the "bitchy", and frankly it's just not working... Please keep ASL snarky but classy.
There, I said it. If I get kicked off, at least it will have been worth it.
T-Bone says:
Some pretty smart people had some pretty smart things to say about the way we treat the earth and animals. Perhaps you should read and learn:
"The moral progress of a nation can be judged by the way it treats its animals" - Gandhi
"Romans 8:21-22 says "Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now"
"What you do to the least of these, my brothers, you do unto me." Jesus
"I care not for a man's religion whose dog or cat are not the better for it...I am in favor of animal rights as well as human rights. That is the way of a whole human being." Abraham Lincoln
"It has become appallingly obvious that our technology has exceeded our humanity."
- Albert Einstein
"Until he extends the circle of his compassion to all living things, man will not himself find peace".
-- Albert Schweitzer
"Non-violence leads to the highest ethics, which is the goal of all evolution. Until we stop harming all other living beings, we are still savages".
-- Thomas Edison
"There is no fundamental difference between man and the higher animals in their mental faculties... The lower animals, like man, manifestly feel pleasure and pain, happiness, and misery"
-- Charles Darwin
"When a man has pity on all living creatures then only is he noble".

MC4- Unicorn?! Seriously!!!!! I really hope that was a joke. If not, then I'm sure that there are meds for that problem of yours. Look into it.
T-Bone, Zekers, Stolidog and Sara said all I wanted to say...great posts.

queencrone says:
Dear Xicana, OF COURSE mc44 was joking about unicorns. Honey, Lighten Up. I think that was the point of mc44's comment. Why do you want to start prescibing meds for people you don't agree with? You sound like an exhusband of mine.
JHarvey-I will always love you.
Queencrone says:
Dear Xicana, by the way, I was going to say something snarky about you posting the same thing twice, but I'm feeling nice today.
LITD says:
Really difficult to respect a country that allows such unnessary slaughter. I have seen some film of the dolphin slaughter, if you can watch it without one tingle in your soul, you are person without any humanity, integrity, or sympathy. It's barbaric.
Mr. T says:
The Japanese also eat sharks. I guess JAWS is next?
AnimalsAreAwesome says:
Stupid heartless farmers. I hope one day someone does something inhumane to all the farmers out there like the one on here that posted. You heartless farmers deserve to rot in hell.
JH says:
save the dolphins, save the world
Jessie says:
As wrong as I think it is... this is their way of life. While I'm not about beating dolphins, I do believe in allowing people to live their lives on their own terms. Americans should stick to focusing on animal rights in our own country and finish that before we start storming Japan to take care of their issues.
Hi America- there is a whole other world out there says:
Yep, OK, and let's support their whaling as well as it's their way of life. And we shouldn't really get involved about the dolphins, cause they're gonna need something to eat once the whales are extinct. Quit trying to save tigers too, Asia needs aphrodisiacs.
Good on Hayden for being aware that Japan exists, most of America seems to think America IS the world. Other countries? What?
Oh hang on, there are other countries with oil? Now we're paying attention. With guns.
queencrone says:
Oh, PEOPLE, PLEASE, did you not all read what ASL is all about. The last line reads: To be enjoyed with a martini (and with a sense of humor).
nao says:
I'm Japanese. I have not eaten whales and dolphins. Maybe other many Japanese young people too. But I hear that people eat it in some places.
I become mixed feelings as Japanese...
