Tuesday night, Alicia Keys didn't turn up to a scheduled appearance in NYC at club, Pacha, reportedly because promoters for the event hadn't managed to come up with the dough she'd been promised for the event, which was being held to promote her new album. According to the New York Daily News, Keys had been promised $15,000 and ended up driving around in her limo for almost an hour, waiting for the money to be gathered to pay for the singer to come into the club. From the News:
"These promoters were digging in their pockets, looking for cash, and were still short," said another source. "The owner of the club even offered to pay the remainder of the owed money himself, just to get her in the club."Alicia's manager, Jeff Robinson, blames mismanagement by the promoters for the gaffe, and to Alicia's credit, she's so dedicated to her fan-base that she may very well not have known that her fans had each paid $25 for a chance to see her that evening and by the time the money was raised, Alicia had already turned in for the night. Apparently, a woman who was eight months pregnant had been waiting for hours. Um, I'm sorry, but if you're eight months pregnant, you shouldn't be waiting for anything for hours, unless it's FOR YOUR BABY TO BE BORN. Go to bed, crazy!
