Seriously, I'm waiting for him to shout "Extree, extree, FDR has 'New Deal' for America!'. Demi Moore, her ex-Bruce Willis, and Sylvester Stallone were among a convention of celebrities on hand for this weekend's 2.5 million dollar Planet Hollywood casino opening in Las Vegas. The casino has been awhile in the making (it broke ground originally in December of 1996), and takes the place of the old Aladin. Demi, Bruce and Sly all have financial shares in the company, and Planet Hollywood head Robert Earl is hoping that this casino will resurrect Planet Hollywood from the ashes. The company's restaurant chain hasn't been doing well in recent years, and has had to close several locations. Mostly because of an excess of cheese and I don't mean on the menu. And Vegas-types are saying that the casino isn't going to exactly be the place to go on the Strip for table service and the best hookers.
"It feels very fake," said Hunter Hillegas, the owner of RateVegas.Com and a longtime Vegas-watcher. "He's got a lot of celebrity friends, but it still feels totally phoney to me. The kind of the people he's getting are on the way out, they're not up-and-comers. I have serious doubts of the prospects of Planet Hollywood on a long-term scale."
A performance by Barbara Streisand was said to be capping things off this weekend. So I guess Mr. Earl's trying to appeal to the queens and old people? Anyway, let's check out some of these photos. The Swayze is looking old and it hurts my heart. And the less said about whatever is on Bruce Willis' head the better.
