Through her very expensive sunglasses, Jessica Alba is eyeing the role of Karen in David Mamet's play, "Speed-the-Plow," a role debuted in 1998 by Madonna. The actress is hoping to squeeze in the performance on Broadway before a scheduled actor's strike. On Live with Regis and Kelly, Jessica said, "There might be an actor's strike in June. So if they don't resolve, I can do theatre." I'm genuinely confused--isn't that still acting? I know it's not in movies or TV, but shouldn't she be trying to show some solidarity with her fellow guild members? I could be totally missing my mark with this, though, since I've done absolutely no research on the particulars of this situation. I have to admit that I do love her outfit in these pictures, though. Of that, I'm sure.

Ugghh
Get that self hating 'don't call me latina' b*tch away

Ummmmm..Madonna was in Speed-the-Plough in 1988, not 1998. I saw it. She sucked.

She is not latina and frankly I abhor these people calling others race traitors. Explain how is she supposed to admit shes latin, asay it do crappy songs and movies. How come Julia Robertd does not say I am white.

That being said I hate Jessica Alba she always plays the tough pretty girl wanting to be taken seriously and thats whats eh comes off as, except for some reason I dont find her hot.

Wouldn't acting on Broadway require talent???

Her father is Mexican, her mother is of French and Danish descent. And she does denounce/deny her Hispanic roots.

Ok gang - first off - to all the so-called "talent experts": unless you've been there, sweated through the drama coaches, the hours upon hours of rehearsals and camera/lights changes, endured the wrath of critics who couldn't find their toes without a map and think that drinking Starbucks instead of Yuban makes you "Urban" - shut your yapholes.

Second - and to answer the original question, there are two different unions for stage and screen and each have different contracts. For film it's the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) - for stage it is the Actor's Equity Association (AEA).
