The Kennedy Center honored Diana Ross, Martin Scorsese, Brian Wilson, Steve Martin and pianist Leon Fleisher before President George W. Bush with the trademark rainbow being placed around their necks as part of the evening's festivities, which included performances by such artists as Yolanda Adams, Art Garfunkel, Lyle Lovett and Yo-Yo Ma. Aretha Franklin and Diana Ross, I'm guessing, are competing to see who could wear the most enormous dress to the event, both appearing to be surrounded in giant clouds of fabric. Seriously, there's a rose bush growing on the side of Diana's gown. And Hootie and the Blowfish were there too (I'm not kidding) dressed in tuxedoes and just generally making me feel old. I have to say that Cameron Diaz's skin actually looks pretty good in this picture--maybe Vanessa Williams managed to sell her some Proactiv just before the red carpet got underway.

So Aretha clearly ate too much after her last fitting and couldn't wear the dress she brought, so she hauled her ass outta bed and draped (WITH ASSISTANCE) the silk chiffon sheets around her. After several drinks in the limo on the way to the KC, she missed her step and careened through the doorway, catching the drapes around her as she fell forward. Trouper that is she -- she pulled it off with a "tah-dahhhh" moment!
