The age of consent in the States is 16, so Jamie Lynn can legally have sex. The case with the 15 year old was bogus, but legally she was too young.

The definition of *taking responsibility* is A) Don't get pregnant underage. B) Either get an abortion or give it up for adoption to someone mature enough to raise it (ie. get it as far away from the Spears family as possible).

I mean, their sister channel, The N, has shows that feature things MUCH more schocking and vulgar than teen pregnancy - all demographed towards teens. Their Nick News segment used to be hosted by Linda Ellerbee, lesbian activist and they seem to LOVE Rosie O'Donnell. They should show little Miss Spears in all her glory. They are so proud of showing kids about sexuality it would be discrimination if they excluded her. Parents should be proud to support a network that give such gleaming examples to teens. I am disgusted at how people are reacting to the fact that Jamie Lynn is pregnant. She is not the first 16 year old mother, and she won't be the last. Instead of chastising her, why not celebrate the fact that she is going to raise a child, she is doing something incredibly brave. And frankly the only reason this is getting reported is because she is Britney Spears' sister. Just because she got pregnant doesn't mean that she is like her sister, nor does it mean that she is a horrible person. This is a girl who got pregnant, is taking responsibility for that, and now will raise a child. I am sick of people preaching to be pro-life, but chastising a 16 year old girl who will endure the pain of being a 16 year old mother. Give the girl a break. There are some good things that can come out of this, 1) Jamie Lynn will have a beautiful child for the rest of her life, and 2) maybe this will help families talk about sex, an important topic that sadly is overlooked and ignored by some.

she can't be due in Spring, if she's 12 weeks along. I'm 17 weeks pregnant, and I'm due in June. Spring baby sounds like she's due in March or April. She's got to be due in mid-July.

Also, I too wonder about the statutory rape case. He's anywhere from 17 to 19, she's 16? I'm pretty sure JL will be visiting daddy in jail. But then again, she's famous, so probably not.

I think the reason people are shocked about this is because JL is NOT some poverty stricken teen from the inner-city who's never heard of birth control and doesn't have much of a future.

Well atleast this child has the money to support her baby. Now the question is will Jamie actually support the baby, and act like mom? Truth is it is impossible for her to ever be a good parent any time soon. Their is way too much growing up needed in Jamie's life, before she can truely be capable of pointing someone else (baby) in a decent direction with guidance and nurturing.Sure many may look at this aspect of Jamie being a good parent simply by being able to spoil her child rotten, but that is nothing that can rais a human being. Here she is practically done raising her last child, just have gotten her own freedom back and able to live a independent life. But not as of this spring. The thing that is pissing me off about this whole thing is the religion factor. Everyone seems to be under the impression that just because this trick throws in "met him at CHURCH", then she's a devout Christian. Some people *do* just go to church to say they've been to church - not because they actually want to be there, or because they believe in living a christian life. Which I could totally see JL doing, just to keep us buying that stupid squeaky clean country girl image.

Actually states decide the age of consent on their own, though I think it is 16 for LA. Here in CA, it's 18, but there are exceptions when the pair are very close in age.
