Britney Spears: Ya Think? (II)

Dr Phil in hotseat after visiting Britney Spears who may have psychological disorder

Britney Spears' "friends" (photographers and Lemmy down at the Citgo?) think that she suffers from a "psychological disease".

*crickets*

I feel so much more enlightened now. I was doubting my earlier boasts that I knew she had bipolar disorder way back when because I am not a trained professional and only a malcontent with a laptop. But with that insightful observation, I feel like Carl Jung. Two separate friends of Britney's say that she has had manic episodes for "years". I swear to God her former assistant Felicia Culotta must have some hot stories. In other news on the psychological front, Dr. (Bald Whore) Phil and Cedars Sinai Medical Center are getting flack from the psychiatric community for their actions regarding Ms. Spears. TMZ is claiming they surveyed eight psychiatric professionals (does Phil have a damn degree?) and all of them agreed that there is no way Dr. Phil's annoying ass should have been allowed in her room. They say that Britney should have given him prior consent for in-patient privileges.

Dude, I would sooner let a janitor into my hospital room to discuss my mental health with me than that knob. One doctor reportedly said that the hospital was "star struck" and that's why he was let in. Ugh. Can you picture this loudmouth tool getting it in his head that he's going to save Britney and get ratings at the same time? He's the worst.

As I said before:
Makes perfect sense to me, and I am a mental health professional. And no, if you knew anything about Borderline Personality Disorder, you'd know that she does not fit the bill. She is actually classic bipolar. And those with biplar disorder often have substance abuse problems as well, because both their manic states and their depressive states are physically and mentally painful. While approximately 3 % of population is diagnosed with this, don't think it's easy to treat. Bipolar I is considered a SEVERE mental illness, has a high rate of recurrence and is one of the leading causes of suicidal deaths in teens and 20's. Mix this with child fame and chemicals and it is truly a recipe for disaster. Give the girl a break.

I think "Dr." Phil has a degree in agronomy, or taxidermy, or ceramic science...or some shit like that. I definitely wouldn't want him dealing with my mental health!

I reckon Dr. Phil's degree was bought on ebay at an online auction.

While I do think Dr. Phil is an attention whore I do appreciate the fact that he was one of the first and only "Dr.s" who came out and told people to stop being a**holes and take responsibility for their actions.
Btw, I appreciate T-Bone's declaration that true Biopolar victims make-up only about 3% of the population because that declared affliction seems to becoming more "popular" now than Depression was a few years ago.

Hi Socialite... Perez Hilton is betting that Britney will be dead by March. I think we should all boycott Perez, his 15 minutes should be wayyyy over by now, and that type of post could be construed as inciting some unbalanced idiot to try and kill Britney, don't you think? I think something needs to be done about Perez Hilton. I am also going to write to MTV and every other network that legitimizes that scum ball.

Btw, Dr. Phil has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and a Master's degree in Experimental Psychology, and a Ph.D in Clinical Psychology from the University of North Texas.
Just sayin'...he is a real Doctor.

t-bone, I totally agree with you about the bi-polar thing. in fact, a LOT of us (myself included) have surmised just that. And, the drugs she'd been taking would clearly be her self-medicating. Now that she's being drug tested in her custody case, and has been testing clean, this breakdown she had last week makes perfect sense.

she's no longer self-medicating so the symptoms are manifesting themselves and she can no longer ignore them.

unfortunately, her past behavior indicates that she doesn't listen to anyone's advice so, until SHE wants the psychiatric help (and the meds that might need to go along with it), she's on her own.

thanks, T-bone. maybe people will consider pitying the girl instead of pointing and laughing... and I don't think my man J is poking fun, he is just poking... LOL

back to brit, she is a sad case. if she kills herself, I will be devestated, she is a good entertainer and her kids need her, a normal brit though.

why do YOU think the hospital didn't commit her??? she needs help, i just don't get it

Maybe T-Bone or some others can enlighten us; I realize that Britney is over 21 but if I were her mama, I'd take whatever legal steps were necessary to have her committed to the best mental health facility in the Country OR are we, as concerned parents, no longer afforded that right in regard to "children" who are of-age?

I doubt Dr. Phil was the first doctor to tell people to stop being puds and take responsibility... maybe the first to make a self-serving television show out of it though.

If I were Britney's mama, I would take whatever actions were necessary.. LEGAL or OTHERWISE.. to save my child. And your child is still your child no matter how old they are.

It's definitely not easy to "commit" someone. The procedure is called a Civil Commitment, it's used when someone is a danger to self or others, AND when the person is unable to provide for their own basic human needs, like food, shelter, clothing. It takes a lot of court time and attorney time to get something like this.

In Britney's case, she is more than able to provide for her own basic human needs and obviously not a serious enough threat to herself or others, as determined by the hospital staff. But that doesn't mean she doesn't need serious help.

Fortunately, or unfortunately (I can't determine which one), she is able to satiate those manic phases because she has all the money in the world. She can gamble, party, sleep with people, do crazy things, and spend a ton of money, because she has the fame and cash to get away with it. Most bipolar people who participate in over-the-top activities get caught, or can't sustain their activities. They lose jobs, go broke, lose relationships, lose their children, and end up in terrible places, and THIS is what prompts them to get the help they need. Britney, on the other hand, is losing jobs, relationships, her family and money, but not in a way that's triggering her to get help immediately. Her "rock bottom" is going to be different than our rock bottom, per se, because she can sustain her life, whether she's depressed or manic.

Treating bipolar can be very difficult. While there our meds out there, it's really tough to get it right (with the polar states), and it's even tougher to get folks to be medication compliant.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that even though she's 26, her mom can have her committed. It would involve her mother writing a petition to the courts citing that she is not capable of making her own rational decisions. My aunt's son was schizophrenic and she still retained legal control over him well into his 40's. She was able to institutionalize him because he simply wasn't able to make rational decisions and had erratic behavior (Like riding his bicycle at 2 am down a major highway for 50 miles and not knowing how to get home).

One of the problems that people who suffer from bipolar disorder is the fact that once they get balanced out on thier meds (which can take a long time), they feel like they don't need them because they are "better". Therefore, they stop taking thier meds and return to crazy town. It's got to be a terrible disorder to suffer from.

I think a lot of people are less inclined to feel sorry for her because the sense of privelidge she's given. Let us not forget that this woman has been working since she was around 8 years old. Her mother has been a typical stage mom and has chosen to live vicariously through both her daughters - thereby securing her substantial income.

Thanks, T-Bone

i guess all we can do is pray

I am also a psych professional.
While I agree with the Bipolar dx, Britney shows signs of unresolved postpartum depression that probably launched her psychotic break.
She needs a good study of her hormone levels, medications, counseling, and time in a calm and protected place away from the cameras.
I would suggest a 30 day stay in a facility somewhere like Switzerland or Iceland.

Dr. Phil is just adding fuel to the fire. He often seems to miss obvious mental illness in his guests on his show. He should know that more publicity is the last thing Britney needs.
