Disgraced Olympic athlete Marion Jones was sentenced to six months in prison today for lying about steroid use and a check-fraud scheme. Even after begging the judge not to separate her from her children, she still received a six month sentence in a White Plains, NY court. The judge sentenced her to the maximum sentence under her plea deal to set an example to other athletes who might have messed up in the same fashion. Marion has admitted that she juiced up for the 2000 Olympics in Sydney and has returned every single one of the five medals that she won there. Three which were gold. Ouch. Jones is the first professional athlete to receive jail time in this steroid scandal. She got hers from the same place, Bay Area Laboratory Co-Operative, that Barry Bonds and Jason Giambi did. So what aren't they in prison and this one is? Misogyny! Someone get Martha Stewart's ass on the phone, she knows how it is.

6 months jail? THAT is crazy. Couldn't they give her house arrest? The woman is breast feeding a baby right now and has another small child. What will punishing her children do? She was stripped of all her honors...isn't that enough?

Part of her sentence was for a check-cashing scheme, though. She likely would not have gotten jail time if it weren't for the fact that she perjured herself in both cases. Her old coach, a man, got 5 years and 3 months for his involvement in the scheme. And I'm pretty sure she's not breast feeding--her youngest child is 4 years old.

What a joke of a justice system! Like she's a threat if she's not in prison??? Lying to cover up a personal behavior choice is what she did, nothing else. She came clean....was humiliated, banned from her sport, lost her medals, and is now a felon. Why prison. We had a public person a few years ago that lied under oath to protect his behavior. Guess what NO PRISON...in fact he got to keep his job as highest elected official in the country. And a lot of folks in this country are thinking of giving his wife the same job later this year. She claimed the actions against him were a "witch hunt"!!
