The Cohen Brother's cowboy chase movie "No Country For Old Men" won best cast in a motion picture last night at the Screen Actor's Guild Awards. They were presented with the award by Tom Cruise. The awards were held last night at the Shrine Auditorium in LA, without any picketing from the currently striking Writer's Guild. The WGA had signed a waiver for them. Other winners included the cast of "The Sopranos" for outstanding ensemble in a drama series, with both James Gandolfini and Edie Falco winning for Best Actor/Actress in a drama series. No one wants to let that show go, huh? Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin picked up awards for acting in a comedy series. Tina cracked everyone up by remarking that "I want to thank anyone in the Screen Actors Guild for considering me an actor at all." And for the movies, Javier Bardem won best supporting for his psycho dutchboy haircut role in "No Country For Old Men" and Ruby Dee won for "American Gangster". The lead actress trophy went to Julie Christie for her role as a woman with Alzheimer's Disease in "Away From Her". And Daniel Day-Lewis won lead actor for playing the intense oil baron in "There Will Be Blood". Day-Lewis movingly dedicated his trophy to Heath Ledger, who died last week. And thanks go to the Writer's Guild for letting the awards happen, because I know I wasn't the only one jonesin' for awkward acceptance speeches and hideous gownage.
