Jake Gyllenhaal was more than just Heath Ledger's costar in Brokeback Mountain, he was also a very close friend to the actor and godfather to his daughter Matilda Rose.
A source on the New Mexico set of his latest film "Brothers" told People Magazine that Jake has been taking the loss of his friend "harder than most" and has been off-set with the exception of filming one scene since he heard the tragic news.
According to the source, "He was there, but he wasn't with us. It was obviously a major trauma. These guys were very close. [Jake] was sitting in the director's chair staring off into space."
It's good for Jake to take his time grieving, but I hope he gets it back together before too long and is able to function at work. It would be a shame to lose two great acting talents from this tragedy. Jake was photographed with girlfriend Reese Witherspoon over the weekend, and hopefully she is taking good care of him.

I don't care weather Jake is gay or not, but it seems to me, every good looking guy now is labled as being gay! even if they are blatantly straight. I think brokeback clearly was a powerful movie , and hit many peoples right in the love pocket. Its a shame when someone clearly so special and talented passes on early, and people need to 'let jake be'. People clearly got alot from this movie, and why not its a powerful love story which sadly ends sadly, and is a reminder to everyone that the age of intolernace and hate needs to be very 'passe'. Life goes on and Jake will too because Heath would want him to be happy .
