Kathy Griffin has built an entire career on making fun of Hollywood celebrities and herself, of course, but her on-stage target of the moment is Scientology. The red-haired comedian's inside view of the organization comes from a close friend of hers, Judy Toll, who thought it would be a good career move, but the honeymoon with the cult quickly ended and according to Kathy, she required the services of a lawyer to fully extract herself from their clutches.
In Griffin's act, she gives the audience an inside look into the strange practices required for membership, which includes something referred to as "auditing." Griffin explains that the process basically consists of members elaborating on their entire sexual past, including any and all "deviant" behavior while being recorded, so that the Church can have it all on record, should a lamb decide to leave the fold.
Yikes. Here's to not believing in anything.

I applaud Kathy...she's got more balls then most of the nitwits in hollywood. It's hard to believe that so many rich people fall victim to such a scam. I think most if not all of them are not educated beyond high school.hmmm. If I had more money I too might fall.

I *briefly* dated a guy in Southern CA (are they truly anywhere else?) who was raised a Scientologist. His family was middle class all the way. (And it was brief b/c I lived in Northern CA. I didn't see a kooky religious side to him or his parents, but who knows...it could have been lurking.)
