Angelina Jolie has made a stop in Baghdad on Thursday. The actress and U.N. Goodwill ambassador showed up as part of her campaign to raise visibility of the predicament faced by Iraqi refugees. Angie is planning on meeting with Gen. David Patraeus, the number one U.S. commander in Iraq as well as the Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki. "There's lots of goodwill and lots of discussion, but there seems to be just a lot of talk at the moment," Jolie said during an interview that was broadcast on CNN. She added, "What happens in Iraq and how Iraq settles in the years to come is going to affect the entire Middle East."
She was spotted by news outlets, hanging out with U.S. troops at a dining facility in central Baghdad. OMG, I'm so going to email my brother-in-law, who's stationed in Baghdad and ask him if he ran into her. He's so lucky.

Jules says:
WOW!! Bless Angelina.
TS says:
All Hail Her Holiness, Angelina Jolie!
Memememe says:
The accusation that nothing is being done is ludicrous. US Military troops have built schools, hospitals, restored electrical, etc., etc. Just ask one of them what has been done in Iraq for the people living there. The idea that Angelina Jolie is some sort of Mother Teresa is ridiculous. More has been for the poor and starving by non-UN entities than has ever been reported and it's a shame.
Coco says:
I wonder than about the pregnancy rumors. Doesn't seem likely she would be traveling there if she had twins on board. Anything is possible though I suppose. I do think the work she does is great, all rumors aside.
jane_smith says:
Memememe: Copy that. My sentiments exactly. Also, thanks for recognizing some of the efforts our military has made. I've been deployed there and have seen it firsthand. Some folks think that the US military is running around like toddlers with guns and shooting people all day when 99% of us are doing things to better life for Iraqis and help protect them from insurgents.
Michelle says:
While I applaud anyone for their commitment to humanitarian causes, I view Ms. Jolie as nothing more than an attempt by the UN to put a pretty face on an ugly issue. If she wasn't considered the most beautiful woman in the world there's no way she'd get face time with General Patraeus. If Jolie's intentions are to inspire others to get involved has it worked?
I agree with Memememe-she's no Mother Teresa. If she was she'd quit Hollywood and live and work amongst these people she claims to want to help.
nona says:
oh yeah, the rebuilt schools. like the police station where the ceiling light fixtures leaked piss and shit because of that half-assed workmanship. or the $800 million dollar u.s. embassy where the electrical outlets spark fires.
pile all the hatred and rage on one actress trying to call attention to the desperate situation of the millions of displaced iraqis, while the war-profiteering pigs bank billions in u.s. taxpayer money. yep. got those priorities in order.
honestly, before you make those ignorant claims, try a little research. iraqis have less security; less electricity; less clean water; more sewage running thru their streets; the neighborhoods have been ethnically cleansed and they want us the hell out of their country.
Michelle says:
Nona what are your sources? Your throwing out what you claim as facts without citing sources or actually backing anything up and instead start your argument with name calling, which usually means you don't know what you're talking about. If you're research-capable you should be able to provide legitimate sources, and not CNN or socialitelife.
So i call your bluff
James says:
Why spend so much time researching the negative? Why not research the positive things? Jolie is trying at least. I'm sure other orgs and people are to in Iraq.
Franklin says:
Put a lid on it Nona. it's war. what do you expect? it ain't pretty.
Jolie's just doing this to keep feeding her inflated ego.
Kristie says:
"OMG, I'm so going to email my brother-in-law, who's stationed in Baghdad and ask him if he ran into her. He's so lucky"
.....except that he's not so lucky because at the end of the day he's still in Iraq.
Nanc' says:
I'm not an Angie-supporter OR hater BUT I have to wonder about a mom who goes to one of the shitholes of the world (I've been there) when her baby girl is getting death/kidnapping threats...allegedly.
By the way, I'll be labeled here as "anti-peace" and "anti-humanitarian" (I don't really care; I spent over 21 years in the US military) but the UN is a piece of b.s. work.
Jules says:
Nanc' -- do you always get your news from the checkout line? Pitt's publicist says the L&S story about Shiloh is a lie -- "dangerous" and "reckless". Those publishers should be hung up by their thumbs. Will wonders never cease a tab lying about Angelina? Who really thinks that Angelina sees herself as Mother Teresa? She isn't talking about Iraqi residents still in their homes & schools she is talking about refugees in Syria, Jordan, Iran and elsewhere as well as Iraqis who have been displaced but remain in wretched conditions in Iraq. Angelina isn't criticizing the US military or the government, quite to the contrary..
Nanc' says:
In response to some comments: We here in the US don't exactly have a "brilliant" history of building things.
Ask the folks who's loved ones died in the bridge collapse in Minnesota last August or maybe those who lost loved ones in the freeway collapses during an earthquake in L.A. not long ago or those who's loved ones drowned in NOLA when the levees failed and let's not forget all those Oklahomans who drowned or suffered during floods last August.
Shit happens, here as well as other places BUT g.damnit, who else is in Iraq even TRYING to help? Well, admittedly, my fave US ally of England, for one, and my second fave US ally of Australia, for two, (I've worked with these people; they are polite and caring and have HUGE balls) but mostly, the burden is on US.
Jules says:
Again -- Angelina isn't criticizing the US military or the US government. She is trying to gather information about the refugee situation, plans for re-settlement in her capacity as a goodwill ambassador for the UN High Commissioner on Refugees.
Nanc' says:
"Dear" Jules, WTF are you talking about?
Firstly, NO, I don't get my info from the "checkout line", smartass. That should be obvious.
Secondly, I did use the word, "allegedly".
Look it up. "A mind is a terrible thing to waste."
Thirdly, I didn't diss Angie; If you have any reading comprehension, you could figure that out.
Now, put down the crack-pipe and seek help.
STFU says:
Nanc', shut the fuck up. Thank you.
Jules says:
Nanc' -- how do you think using terms like "shitholes" and "b.s." is not dissing someone. Just because you type "I have to wonder" doesn't mean you aren't dissing her.
Nanc' says:
"STFU" a.k.a "Jules", Give it up.
I used the word "shithole" in regard to Iraq and I used the word "b.s." in regard to the UN.
How is that a SLAM ON ANGIE?? It wasn't.
Also, I never said she was critizing the US or the US military. That's what you ASSUMED and I never wrote or thought such.
I'm wasting my time here.
Get an education, "Jules/STFU".
Kristie says:
OMG, I'm so going to email my brother-in-law, who's stationed in Baghdad and ask him if he ran into her. He's so lucky.
LMAO!
wakeup says:
This bitch need to stay out of foreign countries, with her ugly ass, she remind me of Jane Fonda, she's against America, she need to go away, she must have a new movie going out, this is the only time you see this stanky ass heroin cow, give her a blood test I bet you she'll test postive. why do the news media continue to give this slut coverage, shame on you
Peas says:
Angelina Jolie, war in Iraq, two different topics entirely, despite the photo-op.
K@ says:
... in the photo on the left she totally looks like miley cyrus... cuz the image is all weird... or just slap her some braces on her and she'd look like a dorky 80's tv character or something lol
